Brave man going all that way in a Bond. Furthest I ever went was the Lake District (about 100 miles) and broke the gear chain going over Shap Fell. Found all the link parts on the road and put it back together and carried on..
My uncle had two Bonds (with a Borgward 6 in between) - a convertible and a hardtop. My mother had a convertible. She and my dad joined the Bond Club and met some very interesting people in that group. The annual run from West London down to Clacton and back was the major event, as I remember it. As stated in the video, driving along with the top down on a warm day was a great pleasure. The overall experience was rather like flying in a British light aircraft of the day. Thanks for the video.
I love this , brilliant cars everyone built with futuristic & function For runners that all put together resulted in the creation of the Smart City coupe. In 1998 the Swatch Mercedes Art car was released. Smart for short a safety cell with full computer controlled everything like a fighter jet with Interchangeable colour body panels made from solid colour recycled plastic. Like the cars in the video the Smart will stand proud, next all these great steps in development, Purpose built on a needs basis is the future of car ownership. EV's are here.
On some models it was arranged that the 2 stroke engine could be started using the ignition key and self starter to rotate the engine the wrong way so you had all 4 forward gears as reverse gears. If you take a look at Hubnut's video on the Bond Minicar Mk G fitted with a twin cylinder engine this is demonstrated near the end of the video.
The early classic Minis were unreliable and were steadilty improved by the public testing them. They did have many things to recommend them however the main ones being stunning packaging and great handling.
