Factory AC survivors of this vintage are rare. I had a '68 F100 with a 390. Optional two tone paint , Gold over Polar White, Bucket seats and the under dash AC.

I like the sound of that. I have encountered a few here in South Carolina. And know where three are in the salvage yards around here.

HI AS u said the pressure chart is a guide ONLY. In reality a head pressure of 150--240 is ok .The closer to 150 the better . How to achieve this in this truck is to fit the biggest aftermarket R134a type ==PARALLEL flow condensor . In the video a R12 = SERPENTINE condensor is shown . These will lower pressures far less than a parallel flow. Why bother ?? Because the evaporator loves being fed cold refrigerant. This give colder vent temps
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 3 года назад
Yes, I agree, but if originality is your game then the parallel won't fit the bill. Note that we also didn't go with the Sanden style compressor, nor did we have a higher fin and tube count evap core. We went for original appearing with the convenience of R134.

It's not freon. Freon is illegal to use now. It's 134a refrigerant.

Great Video! Tons of good info. I do have a question, would you recommend using Nylog Blue on the fittings or should I stay away from sealers?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 4 года назад
No sealers on the stuff. The tubes are designed to seal with a flair type fitting.

I watched the videos about installing A/C to a Ford pickup truck. My dad owned a 1969 F100. Could A/C be added to this '69 F100? My youngest brother in Columbia owns the truck now. The truck has a 6 cylinder motor with three on the tree. I can only ask for me and not my brother.

hi To help high/head pressure fit a quality high cfm 12 inch electric fan to come on when compressor engaged . Signal wire of the compressor wire which switches an external fan relay . This allows the factory look to be kept .
@AutoRestoMod

Nice tip!
@swampy6x659
@swampy6x659 3 года назад
Hi I do understand that u are also fitting a kit. But as with everything there is always a way to get more performance out of even the air/con . Of course this would mainly suit subscribers in tropical/desert areas . Even a tube and fin evap core benefits from a better/bigger condenser. Evap cores and condenser are only heat exchangers
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 3 года назад
Agreed. As stated, this was to show that you can get a stock appearing system with 134.

Hey great video! I have cold AC now, but I have a 76 mercury Comet, and ever since I’ve owned it it’s been stuck on defrost any help?
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 3 года назад
Usually a vacuum issue. I would start looking for busted vacuum canisters (it will be an internal bust, so a vacuum pump is in order) I would also contact Auto Krafters and get a service manual set so you can use them to help diagnose the issue.

Why would anyone want to install an R12 type condenser coil? Does appearance mattwr THAT much?
@willbyrne8493
@willbyrne8493 4 года назад
R 134 refrigerant is a replacement for r 12, but the oil in the system is not compatible and will turn sludge, very bad. That really why you want to replace everything.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 4 года назад
Often, no. But some of these trucks (and even classic cars) go full Monty and it has to be right to compete. Keep in mind we are doing an F100, this stuff applies to other cars as well.

I’ve got an old Ford and would like to know where the clutch cycling pressure switch goes? I also have the receiver dryer and TXV valve

@AutoRestoMod 4 года назад
What year and model old Ford? Cause by now a 2004 is getting "old".
@WesternReloader
@WesternReloader 4 года назад
Autorestomod Manic Mechanic Gasoline Media 1980 Ford Bronco. A new York 210 compressor, new receiver drier, new hoses, new condenser, new evaporator, just recharged it with R12. Yes I’ve got access to R12. It blows nice and cold, but for the time being I only have a manual toggle switch to turn compressor clutch on/off for only 15 seconds at a time, as it’s my understanding the compressor isn’t supposed to run all the time. Also, the receiver drier has an UN used threaded fitting that’s plugged. Maybe a pressure switch could be threaded into it, however, it looks like the only clutch cycling switches sold go into the low pressure side on the accumulator of a orifice tube system. It’s really sad that I literally have exactly everything for MY system, even the R12, and these supposed “parts suppliers” don’t have what I need
