Having done this a few times i believe that the engine and gearbox are simpler to remove as a unit. I’ve tried both gearbox and engine removal separately both are a pain. I don’t understand why the master cylinder was involved? The clutch idler gear does locate into the gearbox but is simple to remove. Why they removed the distributor and plug leads is a mystery as it’s not necessary for engine removal. Nice to see a moggy being fettled up for the future though.

Incredible that you showed the use of an angle grinder without its guard which is designed to contain the pieces of wheel in the event of it shattering and to prevent cutting your fingers off should your had slip or the disk getting jammed and worse still not wearing eye protetion. I know that you can ignore health and safety in your own home whilst doing your own work, but it sets a very bad example to other RU-vid viewers. Please take care more care of yourself, fingers and eyes are very precious. (I'm a retired engineer and safety officer) .

Also have to be careful with safety equipment itself too because it can be a distraction. The goggles, gloves, abrasive wheel guard, supply ELCB, dust mask won't protect you if car falls off support and traps your leg!

I agree that this is not the correct or safest practice, nor do i condone anyone doing it this way. I am afraid we are all guilty of doing things incorrectly from time to time, but we kind of hope that people would take their own safety in to account, but I guess in this modern world we have to assume that people may follow what we do to the letter. hopefully you will have seen from our later videos I have started to wear the correct ppe. Thank you for the comment though its nice to know people are concerned for our safety.

A dear friend of mine in the early 80s had a moggy Minor ex-GPO , with no synchro on 1st & 2, or maybe it never had synchro. To avoid nasty crunch noise changing down she had to wait until stationary before selecting the gear. Great van was driven flat out foot to floor everywhere.

They are wonderful cars! My A40 is the exact same with no synchro so its a full stop before going into first. Bit of an adjustment when jumping out of a modern car thats for sure! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

Has the cylinder head got hardened valveseats? Run on normal pump E-xx fuel?
@rustenuts

Hi jagmarc. Unfortunately the car didn't come with any history of having the hardened valve seats. The engine is currently on the bench so it will get upgraded but it has been run on E10 with no issues at all.

Blimey your tough guys sorting it in the rain and on the drive 💯. I look forward to a vid on the gearbox as my traveller jumps out of second but that’s kind of ok but now the clutch has gone stiff so I will have to do this job. I have helped my dad a couple of times over the years but now it’s all down to me💩 Well done

Thanks Dave, the weather really wasn't the best and did make it a rather soggy affair, particularly for Liam who was crawling underneath. We have a gearbox vid lined up for this Friday. You will be fine, and whilst the hard labour is down to you there is a great community to support you with info, if you need a hand just drop us a message! 👍🏻

In 1984, due to redundancy and the loss of my company car I used my Morris 1000 as a daily driver for a number of months. I drove all over the country to job interviews, it never let me down. Your car reminds me of mine as it is the same colour. I also used it to tow a boat, it was the only car I had with a tow hitch. The main thing which wears in the gearbox is the forward/reverse gear which I recommend replacing while the box is out. I "found" a spare gearbox under a hedge which was better than mine, I overhauled it and I passed it on to the new owner when I sold the car. Due to the popularity of the Minor, parts were easy to find, just look in the nearest ditch!
