Quick chemistry lesson. Ph is the measure of acidity on a 0-14 scale. Lower is more acidic. Iron oxide (rust) is on the higher end and if you put an acid on it (like vinegar) it brings it closer to 7 on the scale which is a “neutral” ph. Hence, we are “neutralizing” the rust and inactivating it. Thanks Pete for all your help over the years. I really appreciate you!
Thanks so much Pete, enjoy your videos very much and learning heaps, you're an absolute legend.I have a 1973 Impala coupe that had all rust removed before the Earthquakes down here in Christchurch, New Zealand. Has sat and now has surface rust.....can't wait to get into it and do it Pete way, Awesome bro, and thanks
You need to use a red scotch brite pad or steel wool when rinsing it off with water vigoursly rubbing as you rinse.. When your done you should wipe it off with an old towel or paper towels. Then once it drys you can d/a sand it with 80 grit sand paper and it should be clean as a whisle.. Take it easy Pete
hey im getting ready to start my 72 camaro. what i thought from the research i did. for me the best product was VHT rust converter. places that sell their paint dont sell this stuff and i called VHT myseld to get the product number and stuff. it supposedly converts the rust into a metal surface you can paint and work. it supposedly one for the few converters thats also a rust prime so after it dry it the turns into a primer you can paint over and the sprayed rusted areas are not rust anymore. you ever use this product or know of something similar? Thanks nice job

hi, first of all I give you a big thanks for all your kind and smart effort to convey how to prepare the metal of the car for painting. In my case, I have a Chevette 1989. It has gone some years without metal and paint maintenance. The last time something was done to it, the technician told me that I sell the car as soon as possible since the metal was degrading fast and non-reversibly. In my heart, I feel that he is trying to avoid me a problem.

Thanks for making these videos, Pete. I am hoping to buy an old muscle car soon and I can count on one hand the things I know about automotive repair and body work. However, I am determined to do as much of the job myself so that when I am done I can say "I did this!" So thanks again!
