I used to live behind the Hollywood Wax Museum in Hwd,CA. The threw away so much stuff that would now be worth big money. In the 80's words like "vintage" just didn't apply to anything from the previous 3-4 decades. These items were just 'old'. I remember finding Planet of the Apes boots full of hard plaster and a wooden post in each boot to hold the body. These were the big heavy leather boots that the warrior apes wore. I spent hours busting and scraping that plaster out, but I had some cool boots to wear!

I always loved Vincent Price. If he is in it, I will watch. But I have to take exception to his daughter saying he had relations with men. Had Mr Price wanted people to know, he would have told us. That is a very personal thing about yourself that should remain personal if that is your choice. In his era, his beliefs would have been to keep it secret and it wasn't right for his daughter to open her mouth when what he allegedly said could have been just a statement of acceptence to make her feel better about herself because in his time it was taboo to most people. No one knows if it was true or something she said to make her book boom. It would have boomed on Mr Price's name alone. Very good video by the way.

Back in the 70s, I Love Lucy had been continuously in TV re-runs since the mid 1950s. It continued for many years thereafter. I guess it was the Millinneals who stopped watching; they didn't get it, the funny stuff. Lucille also did The Lucy Show with her two children. Somewhere in there was an hour-long comedy show about her life in Connecticut. I don't think that 9ne lasted long. She had some great celebrities as guest stars. For Boomers, Lucy was a staple we grew up with. We got it. We loved it.

I have been a fan of Vincent Price since cognitive ignition (i.e., before puberty), I'm in the Fiend Club, and I am an IAIA graduate ('99) still stunned when I am reminded of his addition to it, so thanks for a surprise! His pledge supported the school when it was in the critical initial phase and as it progressed. I'm not a writer, I hammer sculpture to shape over an anvil, but I attended when the campus was one corner of the College of Santa Fe and you show the expanded new campus (where I go back to lecture and demo over that same anvil), which is a very bright and welcome glimpse of the desert.

Thomas Noguchi, the coroner, was either absolutely incompetent at that job or was paid off a lot. Who "loses" samples that are taken at the coroner's office? That's ridiculous. Keep in mind that he is the same guy who did the Natalie Wood autopsy, which was also a really shady death of a relatively young woman. Marilyn died in 1962 and that guy was STILL the LA coroner in the 1980's when Wood died. That he kept that job so long while being such a lousy coroner should make people wonder about a lot of other people who had the misfortune to have that guy determine their cause of death. Who knows how many murderers were never punished due to his actions.

Well, people can "read' a lot of themselves into movies, but Maria: A Closeted lesbian-- that's pushing it!! Sure, Broadway's Maria, Mary Martin, was a not so secret anymore lesbian married to a gay man-- and many lesbians may like Julie Andrews, but to pin that sexual identity on to Maria herself, is ridiculous. The real Maria married her Captain, as captivating Julie Andrews marries hot Christopher Plummer in the movie. And, by the way, would be nuns, are forced to cut their hair super short so as to not have vanity and fit into that wimple. I guess everybody views movies through their own "special lens."

In the early radio episodes Doc Adams' character is more than a bit dark and twisted.

The original vampire has always been Nosferato and this movie was released well before even Bella Legosi's version which was a talky movie. Original version of Nosferatu was a silent movie. Nosferato was also he original vampire and all the other vampires who followed, including Bella Lugosi who looked like a Pinky's aUp Butler dressed in his finery, were imitations of the original. Nosferato was not a good looking dude. However, he was the Real Deal. Often imitated but never duplicated imitation is one of if not the most highest compliment. Spotted the fact that Bram stoker's book Dracula came out in 1897 Nosferatu lens and authenticity that takes away the sleek and slick sophistication of Dracula. Nosferatu don't play, he gets down to business right away. In the movie Salem's lot from the book of the same title, when the vampire is revealed he looks like the vampire in Nosferatu. He NottA-Be-Pretty.

I always thought it was a mistake to make a vampire movie without fangs and music. Recently, 1931's DRACULA has been re-edited with music. Much more watchable.

I love that Margaret Hamilton’s son was named Ham. She would go on tv talk shows in the old days and tell story of being asked to do her wicked witch bit by adoring fans. But when she would launch into it, the fans would instantly regret asking her bc it was too real, too frightening. It would bring up scary childhood memories. ;). Mockingly: “Auntie Em, Auntie Em. ;)

Buddy Ebson was in the movie in one take of the song just after the tin man was first found on the song going to see the wizard they couldn't take the take out so you get to hear buddy Ebson voice there
@MaskedMan66
@MaskedMan66 2 года назад
It's Ebsen, the title of the song is "Off To See the Wizard," and while Haley of course re-recorded all the Tin Woodman's solo singing, they never even considered re-recording the group singing.

You said Buddy Ebsen wasn’t in the Wizard of Oz?!? Although he didn’t play the Tin Man, he was in the film as one of the Wicked Witch’s guards. He is the one that gives Dorthy the Witch’s broom.

The one who gave Dorothy the witch’s broom was actor Mitchell Lewis, after the makeup mishap Ebson did not return to play any part in The Wizard Of Oz, However his original voice was still used singing We’re Off To See The Wizard after the Tin Man was found.

@@hardlines4 you are correct. I remember seeing a documentary on The Wizard of Oz where they erroneously credited Ebsen as the character who gives Dorothy the Witch’s broom. But, according to IMDb, it was in fact Mitchell Lewis. Thanks for the info.

While not an _exact_ match for a vampire from eastern European folklore, the _Jiangshi,_ or "Chinese Hopping Vampire" shares enough similarities to be classified as a vampire subspecies-- kinda like the Reapers in Blade 2 would be, imo. The _Jiangshi_ of Chinese folklore are reanimated corpse bound in funeral attire and thus-- silly as it sounds to us Westerners --move around by hopping, with arms outstretched like a stereotypical movie zombie. These creatures hunt at night and feed off human life-force called Ki (or Qi, or Chi) rather than blood; but during the day the hide in coffins or dark places... As I said-- not _exactly_ the classic, European vampire, but eerily similar, imho. Cheers all! 🙂🙂🙂
