Here is a collection of commercials from 50s-70s. These educational series offers insights into marketing and techniques when basically things were different. Educational purposes only. All rights to the respected persons/entities
As a plumber, I’ve been told many times not to smoke while working on natural gas to, and it’s been almost 17 years that I haven’t listen to that. By the way, a turbo torch is the best tool you could ever use in regards of finding a leak on a gas line… Works every time!🔥
wow the begging of people being lied too. its amazing to see where this all begin and where we are now knowing what we all know now. good video Thank you.
What ever happened to Hai Karate aftershave? That was my favorite aftershave lotion. They don’t sell it no more. Can’t even find English Leather either
If you went to war you'd want a smoke after being in a near miss or killing someone you never really wanted to kill. Imagine. You might die at any moment, what is the harm then of smoking. Think about the mindset of what was. Don't judge what we now do, if another war happened i would tell you 100% the liquor stores and smokes/vapes would be out the door in sales.
That's all my daddy smoked, if brought him soft pack,he would send me back to get Marlboro, filp/hard box RED Ones...not green, or gold box, 100's either, only the old school red boxed ones😄 #memoriesofmydad
Well, this was before the surgeon general got involved, I guess. As a guy that doesn't smoke, I don't get the fascination of putting smoke in your lungs. This advertising was actually banned in April of 1970. Great commercial, though
I was always disappointed when Manners the butler quit showing up on TV. Chuck Wagon and Eveready batteries were the earliest memories of TV ads as a pre K kid. The last 2 were a source of nightmares as a 3 yr old! Thanks again for the memories, Fred.
As a toddler in 1962 I remember being face to face with huge glass ashtrays with smoldering cigs, I loved it, it's very comforting to me, even now as an old man I still smoke lucky strikes, 90% of my relatives smoked.
Throughout Latin America, Mr Clean was renamed Mr Muscle. As t cigarette commercials, the term clean is an oxymoron, nothing at all clean about smoking. Really enjoy this. Brings back memories as I grew up i the era and still vividly remember the jingles. The one of opening a can of beer with a can opener was absolutely precious. Takes me back to when I was 19 in Vietnam in the Army when they had a device that made the two punctures to the beer can. Returned from Vietnam at age 20 and still too young to drink. Old enough to die for my country but too young top drink or vote. Love this video. Brings back so many memories
Thank you for your insight! I’ve always been very curious on how those during the draft felt knowing they were old enough to die for their country but not enough to drink, or vote. This comment gave me a great answer to a burning question.
@@pennyratt9357 I'm appalled at this. They'll send you off to war before you're old enough to drink or vote. Perhaps military age should be 21. They did fix it briefly but had to raise drinking age in the 80s or lose federal dollars. What bs.
The cigarette commercials are my absolute faves. I really like how they entice people to really wanna smoke different brands of cigarettes. If I would’ve been around back, then, I probably would have smoked them as well. I caught the tail end of the smoking commercials and, remember the anti-smoking commercials. I’m 62, and I feel lucky to be able to get these and hear them. I am totally blind, and these commercials really sounds so enticing and somewhat sexy for a woman to want to smoke. 7:01
I don’t need to make Mattel creepy crawlers. There are plenty of them where I travel. Giant water bugs, big cicadas, big black beetles. You name them,I’ve seen them
My favorite thing was to make Creepy Crawlers. That was my thing as a kid, I loved them. I also had Flower Power or whatever it was names you could put what you made on your pencil and it was great. Now they won't allow us to have that toy. But it was marvelous, better than that Easy Bake Oven that never made brownies right.
On the DVD that these come from, he also does a commercial for Butternut coffee in which he delivers a Butternut sales pitch while suspended upside down from the ceiling.
yeah in our time this was cool, we didn't know it would kill us. I know now but it's hard to taper and quit. I've tried everything but I really just enjoy smoking. I guess it will be my death. But as they say.... go out doing something you love.
Oh, THAT ad. Yeah, we thought it was pretty silly when it first came out, too. Makes VD (now STD) look as though it's something desirable to acquire. They're marketing VD almost as an aspirational product rather than something to avoid. Catchy tune, though.
You can still live there.. Im Only 35 and I do. With the exception of my cellular phone, wi-Fi connection, a few personal items, And a few garments, I don’t own anything that was made after 1964 including my vehicles (including my plumbing truck), my home, my furniture, my very few appliances, and my television set.. that I reluctantly had to convert For stuff like this.🚀✨🚀✨🚀
My grandfather died of cancer when he was only in his 60s in the mid 1970s after many years of cigarette smoking….. 15 years later his daughter (my mom) died of lung cancer - she did not smoke but had been exposed to my grandfathers’ heavy smoking. He started smoking as a teenager when they were not aware of the dangers of smoking. Without William Morris erc my grandfather could have lived decadess longer and my mother could still be alive.
I was born in 1960, those dancing cigarettes, no wonder I smoke, still to this day, as a toddler I'd be eye to eye with big glass ashtrays with multiple smoldering cigarettes wafting in my nose. Ah, the good ole days.
Anyone else think that Smokey the Bear spot is creepy as heck? Not to mention the VD one! Anyone remember the anti-heroin PSA with the toy monkey? That one gave me nightmares!
It was a known health hazard way before the 1960s it was just that the warning were put on cigarette packs in 1964 that helped bring it to the forefront but the medical community knew for years and recommended that people don't start smoking and if you do smoke to quit
People had the dame 1 to 4 channels. Companied paid BIG BUCKS for creative marketing cuz they knew that SO MANY people weee watchung……commercials wee great until about 1995.
Those were the days when you got a good car for your money. All USA made None of the made in Mexico or Made in China crap that breaks down in ninety days Even the Edsel was better than today’s new crap
That's why after 2 American lemons, I've driven Japanese and never looked back... but 90% of my clothes are made in US. No imported food except from Canada or EU.
You are more likely to die of covid than cancer. Since I've masked and used hand sanitizer I haven't had colds or any flues. I am knocking on wood but really covid will get you down or kill you faster than a cig.
🤣😆😅These ads got me smokin' like Amber Heard at a Johnny Depp trial!!! Jk, I ain't smoked in over 1 year. And I thank God/Jesus for that . If you still smoke, ask God to help you. He helped me. And i ain't kiddin'.
Smokes were safe then. Even Dr. recommended. Remember the ash tray beside the door in hospital room. Drs. and nurses both used them when they came in and picked them up on their way out and finish before next room. Ash trays for your visitors in room a well. Hey if you gottem. smoke 'em. Like a good cigar now and then never cared for cigs. As a construction business owner I seen a lot of hours wasted smoking. I must admit that I probably second hand smoke a pack a day growing up.
The static comes from the transfers from the source material. No noise reduction back when they were originally recorded. Plus the quality deteriorated over time - the commercials in this are between 50 and 75 years old.
Smoking is still healthy....do you smoke ganja? Most people think that's healthy, physically and mentally. Do you vape? A lot of people think that there's no harm in that. Cuban cigars? I smoke them. Maybe they're bad and maybe they're not. Don't let it worry you and upset your existence.....smoking, drinking, dancing, screwing, gambling and MONEY will never go out of style.....
@@michaelmerck7576 Like today (2022) it's a common believe among marijuana smokers that constant usage does no harm to mind or lungs....it only improves them....
Everyone smoked, my mil was born in 1908 and smoked and played bridge. My fil smoked and played golf, they were country club folk and did what was the "thing" in their day. No judgement. Just love for them.
Yep, when I went to High school, people drove their trucks to school with gun racks and guns, and nobody thought a thing about that, we've lost freedoms due to idiots. A mother will always try to protect her kids and advocate a law that will restrict 98% of us but will not deter the 2% that will find a way around the law. So now we have tons more laws and this just an example, tons more of restrictions and freedoms by the 2-1% that abuse any restrictions.
