Fantastic breakdown of this amazing song. I have fond memories of hearing this on the radio. The melody is so iconic and captivating. I have always loved this song. Never realized how intricate the bass line was until now. Thanks Steve!!

Rod had a lot of great tunes. Great bands too. I've been revisiting his work. Really good stuff.

@@stevekonbass yes. I constructed some steps to the front door finally. They look real nice. You would be proud of me. Lol My brother finally got admitted to the hospital and has had several blood transfusions. He sounded a lot better yesterday when I spoke to him. He has a surgery scheduled Monday and please continue to pray for him. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers.

Wanted to say thanks for creating and sharing this content. I'm a beginner player. I wouldn't have picked this song out to learn on my own, but it's been satisfying and fun to try. I've also been picking up Wild Cherry's Play That Funky Music. Never expected to spend so much time with Disco, but here I am. Bass is broadening my horizons. I appreciate you saying the notes, playing the notes, and including both standard notation and tablature. I suppose this is the point, but tabs are easier for me to get rolling with, standard notation is helping me get a better grasp on timing, and hearing the notes spoken helps with fret board familiarity. I like how your approach to instruction; it suits a medium like youtube, where pausing and rewinding are available. A lot of repetition isn't necessary. Cheers, thanks again.

You're welcome! Enjoy your new journey. I wish I had a dollar for every time I played Play That Funky Music in front of an audience. It's a crowd pleaser. Listen and experiment with all different styles of music... disco, blues, jazz, metal, etc. It'll make you a better player and listener, and like you say, will broaden your horizons.

Very nice! Thanks! Now I'll have something to work on tonight. I like the songs that work the right hand. Ike and Tinas version of Proud Mary and Michael Jacksons Billie Jean are two that I play when I need to warm up fast. Thanks again.

As always Mr Steve....Thank You! Never paid attention to this song before but it does have a jammin bass line. Good practice on my new Fender Jazz which I am Loving. I put flat wounds on my old bass and they are super fun too. Thanks for all the advice!
@stevekonbass
@stevekonbass Год назад
You're welcome Nancy. Flat wounds are great. Maybe the next bass you get is a fretless with flat wounds. Or a hollow body with flat wounds. There's always a spot on the wall to hang a new bass, lol.

@@stevekonbass haha...we actually are planning to tear a wall out and get rid of a bedroom, connecting it to our "living room" so we have more room for basses, guitars and pianos! Just waiting for our snowpack to go away.....still 4 feet on the ground! LOng winter....lots of bass practice! All Good

Great lesson. Thanks! I just got a old passive spector hh. Not sure but I think it may be a performer. It has emg-ssd pckups and sounds pretty good, may need a ground wire reattached, and plays well. I found a used gk backline 350 and a peavey 115 cab and it is a perfect setup to learn on. Still having issues playing with fingers and wind up with a pick before to long but it's getting ever so slightly easier.

Great lesson, thanks. How do we get that tone? What are the EQ settings on the bass and amp?
@stevekonbass

The bass I bought for $42 as an experiment to see if I could get it to sound good: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xpOMSX24T20.html The tone knob on the bass I had almost fully down. I wasn't using an amp. I was plugged into my Zoom R16 recorder: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n_44S76OPYQ.htmlsi=-BDyF2iROqqNiqrM and using one of the bass presets. I had a little chorus on the bass.

Key to getting it is practicing it slow and working up to the tempo of the song. It's more endurance than anything else.
