Classic Game Room reviews BLASTER MASTER for the Nintendo Entertainment System from 1988! Developed by Sunsoft this side scrolling/top scrolling adventure science fiction game was years ahead of its time. CGRHD believes it to be one of the best, if not the best game on the 8-bit NES. Flght your way through several levels filled with mutants and monsters in your Sophia tank/truck thing that flies, swims and does all kinds of neat things. Will they ever remake this game for the PS3 or Xbox 360 or Wii? It's amazing!!

Agreed. Arguably the greatest NES game of all time. I spent hours staying up late weekend nights playing this awesome game as a kid. It's an adventure.

There's a trick when I was a lil kid. Boss fight, drop a bomb then press start. It will repeatedly bomb It. Unstart it, and you won. It has to be timed right.

Through all the PCs I emulated this game on, it always has slow-down in the same places that the original NES cart did. Even so, this was also my favorite NES game of all time. Lifeforce and Bionic Commando were also memorable titles, and of course Zelda, Mario 2 and 3.

Fabulous review of a fabulous game. This is my favorite NES title by far.. Sunsoft did a bang-up job in crafting a wondrous fun time -- great visuals, music, and gameplay all in one. :)

Nintendo just added the game for the 3ds WiiU virtual console so you can save whenever you want. Makes the game much easier to play through

one of my favorite games too. always kept my copy. I played it for years before beating it! great that it has limited continues, really forces you to crack hard at the game.

Just got 10 bucks from Nintendo so i decided to get this game I've never played it before but after 15 mins with the game i am completely in love with it definitely the best 5 bucks I've spent in a while

Dude awesome review i love this game when i was younger! You should also review Guardian Legend since i know you like shmups and it combines adventure gameplay too a bit like this.

on the menu at 2:57 it shows the lightning bolt thing and rockets that look very similar to the ones in metroid, was this made before or after metroid cuz that lightning is like the metroid logo type thing

That Blaster Master intro gets me every time. I mean, what boy doesn't have their pet escape, mutate into a giant monster and flee underground. And when you give chase, find a sci-fi military vehicle to battle your way through to stop a villain bent on world domination/destruction?

I was going to say there was a second made and I to played this game for hours in my younger days. What I remember most about it was that this thing had happened and he just went off on an adventure no looking back he had to go after that frog. Lol, and the opening music sequence ah, I there was no going back after that. A must play. It was one game of its time... and still is.

I really love the story of this game. His frog escapes, touches a radioactive waste thing that he conveniantly had in his back yard, jumps down in a hole, the guy jumps after and finds a huge kickass car with a big gun on it, so of course he'll steal it in search of his frog in some strange world below the ground. Perfectly sane story. However I loved this game as a kid!

I read the Worlds of Power book for Blaster Master long before played the game. Knowing the full story behind Sofia 3 and that girl Eve who is the actual owner/pilot of Sofia, and who helps the kid Jason find his froggy, etc etc. I remember finding that book in our school library in 6th grade, along with the Metal Gear book, which I also read before actually playing any of the Metal Gear games. Reading is fun!

Blaster Master was and is one of my all-time NES favorites as well. I remember when I was younger I would get stuck on the level 5 boss too. Now when I'm older I can beat the entire game, though.

damn, i was a pretty big NES player back then and i never played or heard of this game. pretty sure none of my friends had it. it's a shame because i can see myself as a kid having a BLAST playing it! it was surely ahead of its time. i'm playing Blaster Masterr Zero on switch and i can say the formula holds up amazingly well.

I LOVE this game. I still own 1 copy for my NES. I was never able to beat the game =( don't think it had save points or passwords, you had to beat it in one run. Still a great game. Me and my brother sometimes played all day and let the console be on all night to beat some games, like Mario 3. Great review mark.

This was my favorite NES game. A true classic. A 10/10. Beat it numerous times. The last level was the hardest. I guess I'm a have to get a hacked psp to play this game again, or a wii. This game really stand the test of time up until this very day. The same way I felt about then, is the same way I feel about it today.

I do adore this old nes game, truly a great classic. I liked the ps1 game they made too, not quite as fun as the nes, but not a bad game all in all, still the nes game is a game to go back to again and again. I would love to see a hd remake of this game to give next generation players a chance to play this classic with a standard of visuals they're more used to.

I recieved this game for christmas. I was so confused on getting to level to level and gaining powers for Sophia. I had a blast. I nevered got past to level 5. Most underated game evered played.

Loving those last comments you made on the review. LOL. Well, since the boss glitch covers 2, 4, 6, and 7, I can easily say 5 was the hardest boss in the game, since 1, 3, and the final bosses in 8 weren't too difficult especially with full gun or turbo grenade. I found kicking that crab' butt was easiest with full gun. Saved on evasive maneuvering in that fight too.

The Death Boss Trick is capable of being done on bosses 2, 4, 6, & 7. Beat this game 3 times and I bet I can still do it again.

A trick when you fight bosses is when you shoot them with both weapons at the same time and you that it is taking damage, pause it right as it takes damage and it will sit there and take massive hits. Do it just right and you kill every boss with one hit and one pause.

this IS an amazing games!! one of the 1st ones me & my brother ever had, aside from the included Super Mario Brothers/ Duck Hunt. we owned some others, but this was definitely one of the most often played. then our Nintendo died in the late 90s, & i didn't get to play it for a while until the JNES emulators came out. i still play it sometimes on my PC :) he's right though... if someone hasn't played this, YOU NEED TO!!! i think i'm gonna go play it now ;-)

If you still need help beating the crab, here is the easiest way to do it: go into the boss fight with a full eight pellets in your gun so you have the multicolored wave beam. Then just stay in one spot at the very bottom of the screen and keep firing. The crab only moves from side-to-side across the top of the screen, and none of the bubbles can make it through the wave beam. This trick can also work with the seven-pellet white wave beam, but it takes longer.

I just watched your blaster master review. I used to have that game. I used the pause trick to beat the lvl 2 boss. When you launch grenades at it and they make contact. Quickly pause the game. You will know when you have done it.

This was one of my favorite NES games, even though it's still quite a challenge for me to play. Blaster Master 2 on Genesis / Blasting Again on PlayStation didn't seem to be as fun as this game. Sophia is considered a "walking tank". The music is some of the best on the system - along with Duck Tales, and the Mega Man series.

Kid has pet frog. Pet frog escapes. Kid chases. Frog finds random drum of radioactive waste in kid's back yard. Frog turns into a mutant, digs underground. Kid follows, finds a suit of armor and a badass tank. Everyone else: Enjoys good old no sense silly NES 8-Bit love. You have to adore the Nintendo and their simple silly storylines that don't have to make sense. It's the GAME PLAY that counts. I hardcore love this game.
