I love that scene in The Man With the Golden Gun, where Bond and Sherrif J.W. Pepper realise they're in the same car. "I know you!" "Oh, nooo..." "You're that English secret agent guy...from England!" I think Tom Mankiewicz's contributions to the scripts gave them a lot of charm, just as he would a few years later in Superman The Movie. :D
@PerplexityStudios Quantum of Solace really combined both the plots of Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace into one game. The plot of Casino Royale was part of Bond's flashback that was a dedication to Vesper, his first "true love".
I enjoyed this game quite a bit. There were loads of spectacular action set pieces. But the criticisms are valid. The game is straightforward and vanilla and the story doesn't go anywhere. Mainly that's because there was meant to be a sequel that never came which is unfortunate because I feel like I only got the first few chapters in a much larger story. Still it's worth playing for Bond fans and you can get it for a few bucks.
+Christopher Blair There is a lot of potential for Bond games with original stories like this one. I never played 007 Legends personally but what from i heard it did very poorly enough in order for Activision to basically cut this series off, ending that potential for more new stories.
Shane Russell Yeah, EA had a trilogy of sorts of original story games on Gamecube. Agent Under Fire, Nightfire and Everything or Nothing which is actually of the best Bond games in my opinion. The Bond game license is kind of in limbo now which is a shame especially because unlike Brosnan who didn't want much to do with the games (though he did finally voice the character in Everything or Nothing), Daniel Craig has been very willing to participate in the games.
Yeah. It did take Brosnan awhile to warm up to the idea of voicing lol. And then only one Craig didn't voice was Legends, probably because it was interfering with Skyfall and all that. It's a shame though, I hope we get more games soon enough.
@Ketorulz Thats true I can kind of understand that, even though I don't do it myself. But what I have problem understanding is when they give a reason, in this case he's younger.
This was a solid game with high production values that was (is) also highly enjoyable. I think bias for a purer Bond experience skewed this review, this game is a keeper, let alone a "rental".
I totally agree with what Mark, Mr.Inecom is saying. This James Bond is so unexciting. I never liked old James Bond movies with Sean Connery, but now I see their appeal after seeing Daniel Craig ones. He doesn't have much smirk or enough sense of humor in my opinion. I wonder if this game has any sense of humor as well. Does anybody remember "No One Lives Forever"?
You make some good points in this review. I love James Bond movies! I think they're awesome. =) And I thought Casino Royale was well done. It had the memorable bad guy who's a badass at high stakes poker. This game still looks decent, but I don't know about buying it full price though. I'll probably get it when it's cheaper. James Bond is awesome!
I know it doesn't release till February but I can't wait for your review of duke nukem forever, I don't know why but I just think you have a much better idea of how to review games than others.
I love the fact that you can do different combat. For example, when you are behind a counter and there is a enemy in front of it, you can eather click Attack that means he jumps over and kicks the nemy in the face. Or, if you hit Silent Takedown then he drags him over the counter and kills him.
I prefer it when he talks about new games. So then I know which ones are good, and what they look like. And this guy makes me laugh and smile, so he's fun to watch as well. I have an NES and I'm 15 (£12 car boot sale). I like old games, but the new ones are just so much more fun. Super Mario Bros. Better than 95% of new games today, but very few NES games beat today's games. Due to the fact most games don't age well, and the graphics diminish. Oh well. That's Xbox and PS for ya. :l
I think this was a worthy alternative to a new movie. I think Daniel Craig's Bond fits video games well. Goldeneye was cool, this is cool too :) Bond 23 in 2012 though, woop :D
@@WWJimbo lol casino royale the best bond, maybe the best since goldeneye...goldeneye was easily the best movie especially for the era since the Roger Moore era
imo not that it matters much im sure,, this is one of your best reviews , its top notch you described the game exactly ... A great review for an average game.. I , thank you good sir..:-) I stopped enjoying bond games since oo7 nightFire , eww
I personally feel that goldeneye does stealth gameplay very well. Its a simple system, take down enemy silently by takedown or by silenced pistol owhterwised be swarmed will enemies, but it really workes well and levels (atleast most of them, later on are more call of duty, they know your coming, style) are well suited to both situations.
Love your comments ! "You're fighting a bunch of no-names, forgettable terrorists thugs who have biological waepons. This is a job for the A-team !" Two thumbs up ! ;)
So true about the villains. It's weird that Blood Stone makes a nod to MGS's stealth action gameplay, yet it was MGS that paid a homage to the old stylized super villains of the old Bond films. (the 3rd MGS being the most "007-ish" of the series.) Come on it's not a James Bond game, unless the bad guy has some ridicules special trait. Metal teeth, a hat that can decapitate, having a murderous midget as a servant. What do the new Bond villains do? just go around texting while driving?!
i don't understand the amount of backlash this game has received. This imo is one of the best bond games since Everything Or Nothing on the ps2. very fun to play.
As far as Bond games go this one looks pretty good! the franchise hasn't had that many really outstanding games (other than Goldeneye) the PS2 era EA games looked good
@MrZekeus Mine goes: 1. Sean Connery 2. (Very close #2) Daniel Craig 3. Pierce Brosnan 4. Roger Moore 5. (Way down there) Timothy Dalton 6. (Right behind #5) George Lazencrap
Things change, bad guys change. We're not in the 60's anymore. Complaining about not having bad guys like Baron Samedi or Dr. No is like complaining that Batman isn't out of shape and having rubber sharks attack his leg anymore.
Man! I was expecting james bond's car driving into the river to transform into a speed boat like in spy hunter. But that would be a bit too much plagarism since Spy Hunter was first to introduce the transforming car/boat with an array of weapons. James Bond just has a car usually with a few weapon features but no transforming.
Love the game got it for 20 dollars and i dont regret it at all. Hell my girlfriend even gets a kick out of it and shes not that into game. (Its not game of the year but i feel it deserves a little more love)
