Everybody dies, I'm not even kidding. The series is very dark, almost as dark as R-Type lore is.

I love the Darius series :) My dad bought me Darius Twin for the SNES when I was younger and I've loved the series from then on :)

I like the fact that a lot of the enemies and bosses are fish or sea creatures..there should be slogan " you like fishing?...well you should try fishing Darius style!"

I just replaced mine in my Saturn (bought 1997) last week for I think the fifth time. I have a 5-in-1 so I don't lose any of my old saves.

Its advisable to leave the battery out if you're not that bothered. If the battery leaks (which all do eventually) it can cause irreversible damage to the console.

However, in the Saturn's case some of the games rely on the internal clock (The only one I own that needs it is Christmas NiGHTs), so, at least in that game's case, you need the clock to activate the various scenes in the game. Granted, you could just set the clock when you actually play the games (Christmas NiGHTs is sorta my tradition on Christmas Eve :), but that can be a bit of a pain to set the clock every time you play your Saturn. And while I have had old tech I've found at the local thrifts with corroded batteries, I've never had that problem with my Saturn, and I've owned mine for 20 years (bought it in early 1997). I play it often enough to know when to change the battery.

Have you played the latest one dariusburst cs ? It's available for pc,vita and PS4,worth checking out if you're a fan of the series.

I haven't... The only Darius games I've played were the ones available on the PC engine, although I've been willing to try the SNES one as well... I'd try the newest one, but my PC isn't well-suited for gaming and I have neither the PS4 nor the Vita...

Sucks that we didn't see a release of this in the US. We only got Darius Gaiden, which, while superior, doesn't have the cool widescreen mode that mimics the 3-screen setup of the original arcade cabinets. I might have to look into importing this, if it's cheap enough...

"Not that expensive compared to other Saturn shooters" I'm probably still better sticking with my Mega Drive cart. I know there was Darius Gaiden on Saturn, but I imagine that too is pricey. Hope the Windows 95 port I got years ago still works.

I thought Saturn emulation was terrible because of it being hard to emulate, unless there's something I missed and Saturn emulation is totally playable haha.

It's fully playable on the emulator, MAME (which has its own MAME roms), as it is an arcade game. Saturn emulation has gotten better, but emulating the Saturn port is not advised because the game, which originally took up two full screens (or three depending on some versions) is smooshed into one TV screen - emulating this on a PC would give you almost an unreadable image on your monitor. The MAME rom fits the aspect ratio correctly. All in all I'd recommend MAME, or just emulating the genesis port, Sagaia.

Charley Williams The only way Sega could do that is if the industry died with Nintendo being killed and Sony and Microsoft killing each other and Sega would bring it back like the NES. Sega would just die again if they went back in the wild.

This got really low review scores back in the day, because it seemed like such an outdated game in 1996. In hindsight it's not that bad, but they could have done much more to update the game for the 32 bit generation.

I think of all the cool arcade-perfect games for the Saturn like Darius II that were never released in the States, all because "hardcore" gamers refused to play anything that didn't had 3D graphics at the time... :(

that wasn't 'hardcore' fans, it was Sega / Sony management...well Sony US who did that alot, and Sega who followed Sony (and were ultimately defeated nor far after)

Some are Nintendo fanboys, some are SEGA fanboys. Being a contrarian, I'm a Taito fanboy. Talk about 'hidden in plain sight'... Taito are rarely thought of beyond Space Invaders but, wow, what an historical catalogue. Taito is love. Please, Squenix, don't run them into the ground, bleed them dry and then kill them!.

Hey, CGR Publishing, did you all hear about Darius I having a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini official release? Apparently, Sega and Taito were so impressed by one person's dedication to making an unofficial Darius Homebrew game that they legitimately made it an officially licensed game and, from what I hear, it is on par with what Natsume did with the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive port of the game that is on this video. Naturally, M2 helped to refine the rough edges, but that is certainly not a bad effort from one person, right?
