I played the hell out of it when I was younger

When I saw the Acclaim logo I was like: "Oh no..."

"Ahhh! Destination Earth, the BEST instruction manual I've ever read :3" Yes a cheap joke from my part but I think it works alongside the video :D

How can you return home if you've never been there?

I loved the base level... it was hard but the soundtrack was awesome for its time.

I sort of miss CGR Undertow......

I remember playing this as a kid. I would fly around space, using the grid to destroy the enemy ships and navigate to the planets (which always seemed super difficult). I didn't even know you were supposed to fly to the enemy base and there was a whole other side-scrolling aspect of the game..... I legit thought that that's all there was to the game!

Did acclaim make anything great? I did like Monday night raw on genesis.

I now have a pin on the CGR map, I can tick something else off my bucket list 😀

Hey Mark! Question: What do you think of Synthwave?

Mark seems genuinely angry at this game. And he's not wrong. I remember renting this game as a kid. The realization that it was crap was almost instantaneous. But the problem was that when you rented a game, you were stuck with it for the whole weekend, so you kept forcing yourself to play it, as if to try and convince yourself that it was actually good.

How much gets cut out?

2:12 you *CAN* turn off the music in this game, it's listed in the instruction manual.

This looks like a very sad (and action oriented) version of Star Fleet I: The War Begins! by Interstel Corp for the Atari ST (and other computer systems). PS. I am sorry but this NES game actually looks good to me.

I got this game as 🎄🎁 when I was kid and it was 1 of the quest games I've ever played. It was so hard it took me a year to learn what the hell to do. It was the absolute worst 😩

Ok, seems like you don't know you have a throttle. While holding A or B (don't remember which), UP/DOWN becomes the throttle. Slowing made it a lot easier to target the ships when they passed you, and maxing the throttle actually activated your warp drive, so clearing a map only took 2-5 minutes. Those two orange bars in the middle of the screen were independent, with the bottom bar your desired speed, and the top your actual speed (ship took time to adjust). The throttle maintained speed until you adjusted again, it wasn't hold to go faster/slower, so it was very sim-like compared to other console games. You also had different weapons, missiles, ammo counts, good stuff. The ships looked Star Wars, and so did the warp graphics, and you're docking with death-star clones which provide SHMUP sections, so this was all pretty awesome with a bit of Star Wars role-play helping it along. For a kid that only had an NES and not an expensive PC, this worked well as a sim experience squeezed into a console. I always played with the NES Advantage, it felt more appropriate than the pad. I don't remember liking or hating the SHMUP bits, but the sim part was nothing but fond memories for me.

ok seriously... the scene at 4:35, looking at the space ship. the center piece just looks like a Jeep Cherokee.... maybe there is an off-roading scene in one of these worlds. Ditch the wings, nose cone and thrusters... (but it would just look like a badly executed moon patrol)

This game is badass, when you get used to the controls its quite a bit of fun.

Umm, Mark, since you read the instruction manual, you would know that it said in there you could turn the music off..

What year did this release? It looks like a slightly better 2600 game.

Has anyone else noticed the little cut scene of your ship between levels. Never mind Imperial shuttle fakers. Your ship is a x-wing without its "foils locked in attack formation'" faker.

I got this one for a birthday present way back when. I play it once in a while just for nostalgia purposes, but I agree that it's a pretty bad game.

You know, if you used hyperspace, you'd move between sectors faster. You could've also just paused the game twice to disable the music.

There's a good game like this for the Nes, or rather the Famicom; Namco's Star Luster. Altough it's all first person affair. Checkidout!

The only reason I bought this game was because I found a cart with a nostalgic rental sticker on it. And I was like "eh worth a few bucks even if the game sucks".

I liked this game alot when I was a kid. Except for the repetitive music.

I often wonder if the people who make and sell these things ever played thier own products? I'm guessing they never did in this case? A few simple changes could of actually made this an okay game. A few more changes could have made it great. Looks like well have to wait for a rom hack to fix this game. (Nes Manga)

I was gonna say, those ships look exactly like Imperial Shuttles.

Believe it or not, there's an even WORSE game made by Acclaim similar to this one called Star Voyager. If you thought this game was boring, wait til you play Star Voyager. And if being boring wasn't enough, it has some of the most ear piercing sound effects you'll ever hear from an NES. You need to tortur- I mean play this game Mark. Trust me, you'd be missing out if you didn't!
