I love how the Earth Defence force destroys the entire city to kill the bugs. I got Earth Defence Force IA, I didn't know bout they other versions which looks better to be honest .
Watching Mark talk about how much he loves EDF makes me forget that I have a terrible cold right now! Now that's the power of Lord Karnage and "EDF! EDF!"
This game was so entertaining, especially when playing it coop. Nothing fancy in graphics, but the game play is just outstanding. HEAVILY underrated game!
I had so many fun hours grinding out levels of Earth Defence Force on the PS2, now I've just realised that this game exists for the 360 so I'm getting a copy and firing up my console for the first time in well over a year to switch off my brain and Blast Some Bugs! Anyone who moans about the graphics or other things is just missing the point with this franchise. It's all about the gameplay and oldschool fun.
YES. This game is one of the main reasons I want a 360, and I've thought that about it for almost 2 years now. The sense of scale reminds me of Robot Alchemic Drive for PS2. This is also one of the reasons I love Classic Game Room so much. It isn't just about the big-name, mainstream bullshit. It's also about the obscure, lesser-known stuff, and that's usually the stuff I gravitate toward most anyway. EDF 2017, Way of the Samurai 3, Musha... Keep these kinds of reviews coming, man.
im thinking of getting a new console now that i sold my YLOD ps3 (ill miss my ps3), and im thinking of getting a 360 just for this game (well other games too), is it worth it ?
One of my favorite games of all time. Played through this a few times and will again. Simple fun and mass destruction. This is an old school type arcade game that would take all of yours and your friends quarters. Not everything has to be serious and technical. Just blast away and blow everything up. Love the sense of scale here too. They make everything look huge. All the more satisfying to take them down with rocket launchers.
Picked up a pre-owned copy for $6 at Blockbuster a few weeks back. Best game deal ever. Local co-op is a blast and really the best way to play the game. It lives up to all the cult hype. My wife, who doesn't play shooting games, has become addicted. We've put in over twenty hours, currently working our way through hard difficulty. Easy to pick up and play and impossible to put down. Goofy dialogue, crazy glitches, and repetitive but always very fun entertaining. A classic.
My friend and I just call this game Giant Ants. While Zombies Ate My Neighbors (another game you really should check out) also has giant ants, this is the definitive Giant Ants. Thank you for reviewing it.
Love the fact that Mark is able to see the point of games like these and it's a real shame that everyone else will see a game like this as an instant rejects because it's not a name brand.
well, in relation to other games that are available today. i guess that bad graphics dont "take away" from the game, but they do distract. like walking sideways in fallout, or how you can see individual pixels when you look at a wall in call of duty. and as a playstation 3 owner, i havent experienced any lag in my games aside from the occasional online play lag.
I remember my sister and I playing the hell out of this, co-op = endless fun! It's like Crackdown alot of people hated it but we couldn't stop having fun just dickin around!
Amazing game design, what would happen if it did more polish and creates variety of combat methods such a dogfight, jet packs, and robots? This would be a great battlefront clone!
This game is awesome. Its amazing what they did with a low budget. one of my favorite parts is when you are in the ant caves and even though you don't see the bugs, your allies start freaking out and shootin up the place.
@Creature286 to get in vehicles you have to press the Back button. It looks like the start button but on the other side of the green X. (The reason I said what it looks like is because sometimes when you say the back button people think you mean the B button)
Does anyone know where to get EDF insect Armageddon anywhere? i asked my nearby gamestop store and they said "Never heard of the game, im not sure if we have it" which they dont
This game looks really entertaining. Never played it for the SNES. Is this game for the PS3 as well? Don't hate on me either. I would love to own an Xbox 360 for Halo, Halo 2, and the exclusive arcade titles. Simply cannot afford a 360 right now. Great game review Mark!
I saw this game in my local game store for 3 pounds i was shocked to hear Mark chanting EDF EDF EDF... so i got it. now i must protect the earth fro giant insects robots and ufozzzzzz
*Shoots one rocket* *building crumbles* "Now that's a cheap-ass building." Hahahaha. That sold me on wanting to play this, if the flamethrower and giant insects weren't enough.
This game is freaking amazing. It felt like an old arcade game to me. It's got a decent difficulty, tons of weapons, tons of levels, and is, in my opinion, the best local co-op game on the 360.
Bioshock, Shadow of the Colossus, Demon Souls, Cave Story, Warcraft 3, Twilight Princess, The Last of Us, Amnesia, Braid, Fire Emblem, Dishonoured. Or were you thinking of other modern games?
One of your best reviews Mark, really I laughed my ass of at the part were you were reenacting your conversation with your friend and how much you are enjoying this game. Oh and yeah the game looks pretty awesome especially because it reminds me of Starship Troopers done the right way in game format.
I had the SAME experience in a gamestop, but they wouldn't listen when I explained it's one of the greatest games ever conceived. True genius is too often overlooked. This game is ahead of its time, and it's already a remake. (See Global Defence Force and Monster Attack) PS It is remade again this summer: EDF Insect Armageddon
This game is totally awesome, I love it, and I've played it a ton recently. Cleared Easy, Normal and Hard. Just Hardest and Inferno left. Yeah, that's gonna be tough. If you're able to, you should look into importing it's predecessor, Global Defence Force (EU) / Chikyū Bōeigun 2 (JAP). As you probably gather, it's the second game in the series. EDF2017 is pretty much a remake of the very first game. GDF has a lot of cool new features, most importantly a alternative character to play as.
