I could not resist . . . after the onions and other seasonings, I threw in 4 eggs and a half pound of ground pork. Got those cooked and then threw in the other vegetables. WOW it was good.
@@Badastro59 Then it wouldn't be "Classic Jamaican steamed cabbage". I was taught by Jamaican women how to properly cook cabbage, pretty much this same way. Put in real meat like chicken, pork, etc., before adding the cabbage, but NOT ever chicken powder.
@@MrLarryWatkins No it is not.it would not be authentic But I can't never make a recipe and not modify it to make it mine. I love cabbage. And every Country does something unique with it .I add Knor chicken powder to just about everything even Apple sauce.
Really like your seasoning choices on this!! There is no one absolute way to make anything, as long as it is brought to taste that’s what’s most satisfying!! Looks delish!! Thanks for sharing!! 🎉
Yeeeees very tast this cabbage is great ! Thanks for sharing my family loves when i cook it. 😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I love different kinds of Caribbean Foods🙂🙂🙂👍👍👍👍

Chris! You're a sight for sore eyes, and this cabbage is a joyous thing to behold. With your evocative recipes and videos, we can almost taste the food just through your technique. Subbing to many who may not have gone to culinary school, but watch them cook and you just feel the food before it makes it to the table. That's you, Chris. It's always a pleasure. 😍😍🥰❤
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.I cooked my cabbage a different way but this is way better! I didn't use bonnet pepper I used red pepper flakes and it was so good.I almost can't stop eating it.I make it 2 times a week.
Thank you!! Tried this today (added mushrooms) and it was amazing!!! I've never made my cabbage with thyme before, it makes a good noticeable difference!
Thanks for this. Made it this evening and it came out pretty good. I'm trying to incorporate more cabbage into my diet, and this looks like it's going to be a good way to do it.
This is perfect for me! I’ve been pescatarian for the rest of the year, and I loveee me some cabbage 🥬. Lord knows I do with some curry chicken OMG 😳 lol
She’s saying she loves cabbage and curry chicken, she did not say she was going to eat it, she was merely starting how she typically would pair it IF she were not eliminating chicken for the balance of the year. At least this is what she better be meaning and failed to express 😉 based on what she indicated her goal is, Shalom
Omg I spent the whole day watching your videos, I love them all.. Thanks for sharing. By the way, new subscriber here and looking forward to the next one. 😍 Now off to attempt your amazing pineapple jerk chicken. Wish me luck.
This is really good! I would eat this delicious dish everyday. If I wanted chicken I would kook it separately. I didn't want to mix the kabbage with chicken flavor.
Okay THIS video was the first one of yours I watched, a month ago. I've made this cabbage about 6 times this month. Everyone loves it. No one could teach me how to properly steam cabbage 😢
I do a similar thing with the same, but less veg: Shred all the veg thin and cook with garlic and ginger, no stock cube or thyme. When the veg is still firm with a tiny bit of crunch, add 2 beaten eggs, mix it all up, then pat it flat to half inch. When it's golden underneath, turn it over and do the other side. Serve with sweet chilli sauce and tomketch, salt and pepper after cooking. Hot, hearty and healthy!
Thank you for this recipe. I'm also on a low sodium diet and I'm trying to make my favorites at home so I can control the salt. This was so easy to follow. :)
Chris I followed your recipe step by step and oh my goodness 🥰🥰🥰 my cabbage came out beautiful.. I didn't have the allspice and the thyme so I had to go buy that.. .. the last couple of times I had cabbage it was so soggy and greasy .. home cook or dining out ... So if someone offered me cabbage.. I was like...😬 No Thank You 😊..😅😅😅.. 👍
So today my wife and I visited a local Jamaican restaurant. Actually it was the only one in our area. I tried the oxtail stew while my wife had some curried shrimp. Obviously we both had beans and rice. Both servings came with a cabbage side that had a unique taste. Not quite savory but not sweet too. It had an interesting buttery semi sweet flavor that worked well to compliment the spiciness of the meats we were eating. This side dish didn't seem to have been steamed too . Regardless we are looking to make that at home . Is what I am describing a one off recipe or is this an alternative to cabbage dishes served in Jamaica ?
Chris thank you so much for this recipe! I have enjoyed Jamaican cabbage in many Caribbean restaurants and now I can finally make it at home. Thank you for all of your wonderful recipes and Happy Holidays to you and your family!
