That isn't the point of this at all. Its a quick shoot out. If rob didn't like the sound of a pedal with the controls at noon, why would he want the pedal at all? If you're diming the controls it isn't for you and there are probably 5 other pedals that are better suited.

I’ve got an OCD. It’s a good pedal but it adds too much low end and isn’t as harmonically rich as some other pedals I like. It’s just not one of my personal favorites.

Lee put the drive of the OCD all the way up, while he should have put it somewhere between 11:00 and 1:00 o'clock. That's the reason he tossed it so fast. The OCD is an amazing pedal. Though it depends if you use a solid-state or tube amp. With solid-state it's kinda disappointing. William Allison I was tempted to buy one the last time they made a video about it. You cán find some, new, but they are far more expensive than they were originally, I thought 140-180 pounds/euros. But with a DAW, an audio to midi converter and a vocoder-vst you can recreate a similar effect for far less, even free. I used MiGiC and Alter/Ego.

Not really surprised at Rob's choices, especially given the plug and play parameters. Rob's choices were very 80's voiced, loads of bite and glam era chug. The MXR was also a standout in the bang for the buck category.

Nah, A. The DM drive is not really a rock pedal. B. Dan and Mick always say pedals are part of an overall system, and there is no one size fits all system. C. This challenge is more about dialing in sounds quickly than finding the absolute best pedal.

This was a fun shootout. You can quibble about the limitations of the methodology in terms of speed of the comparison, guitar and amp choices, the specific sound they were going for, whatever. But still it's hard to argue with the blind approach. I look forward to the second one as well with a humbucker and semi driven amp.

I have the JHS AT on my board. Really liking it. I use it as a 2nd stage overdrive. I have a Crowther Audio Hotcake in front of it to juice the original signal slightly. Sort of a cascading setup. Run into a JTM 45 and an 18 watt TMB in an ABY setup using a Radial Tonebone amp switcher.

I think it shows that some pedals take more time to dial in the good sounds before they really work. I love the RAT sound (got a Black Secret), but I didn't dig it until I turned the level up and got the filter to a point where it's not thin and fizzy. The Wampler Pinnacle got thrown out eventually, even though Rob used it himself for years.

Indeed, the pedal needs to be dialed in properly first. Else you get a very bad comparison. The OCD got unlucky here with the drive set almost all the way to 4 or 5 o'clock. I've many high end overdrive pedals and like the OCD, but i never set it passed 1 o'clock.

This video needs to be done again with Pete as the player and anyone but Lee as the tweeker.... boy is he a tweeker. He almost managed to make the JHS AT fail at the first hurdle. I love Anderton's videos as a rule, but this one should be THE definitive overdrive shootout of all time... and it just stood there when the pistol went off.

I would love to see more of these. Like a metal one or a hard rock one. I'd like to see one that's almost identical to this one except starting with a light crunch insted of clean. So finding the pedal that takes a light crunch into an epic rock rhythm or lead tone.

I have a challenge for pedal manufactures! I think the guitar world needs more overdrive/distortion pedals as presently there is a distinct lack of them on the market especially the types that copy the Tubescreamer and then re-brand it with a boutique price.

as the owner of an MXR custom badass distortion - I can say Rob/Cap had it right - this is a ''distortion pedal'' that you put in front of a clean amp with a lot of tone shaping. It's not a great 'Klon' or 'Tubescreamer'. It's a marshall in a box for a clean or slightly crunchy amp.

bottleneck1100 I use it in front of a plexi with a 2203 front end mod. So pregain is cranked then punch the badass over it for leads or heavier rhythms! Output about 3 o’clock and gain very low about 8 o’clock. Sounds amazing and doesn’t change the tone of the amp. Tubescreamer type pedals sounded thin and harsh in front of it.

Well I was thinking about buying the Alexander Jubilee, now I'm kind of interested in the MXR, especially since my local shop has one for cheap. Which of the 2 would you choose for that jcm800/silver jubilee gain sound?
