WOW! Even my wife made a comment (we watch you on our living room tv) on the wooden handled screwdriver build! VERY well done! We enjoy your channel because you're steeped in tradition, Patriotism, excellent craftsmanship and the era we grew up in. Thank you very much for the enjoyment you bring to all of us.
It’s always cool to turn junk and scrap, that still has some good useful parts left, into something awesome! It’s even better when you have some kind of sentimental attachment to it. :)
Wow! I visit Dave Engels every Friday. I watched the boxed wood giveaways but only today am I putting it all together. Glad you won, I think I entered but you can actually use those nice pieces of ash, poplar and other hardwoods. Today's project looked great and I know it meant something to you.
Your knowledge and infectuous enthusiasm are so appealing. Thank you John for all your hard work in putting these videos together. See you on Wednesday. Jim
Oh man, that screwdriver is beautiful. I'm not sure I understood what you meant by the arrow shaft part. But I'll go re-watch. Favorite line: "Oh yeah, that's right, it's red. It's probably not wood."
I thought of buying some deadblow hammers, but I'm closer to the other side of tooling up. Anyway, my buddy, Tommy Lee, gave me a 2# copper hammer which has served me well for decades. WhenTommy was still with us, he was a machinist at a steel mill. The first thing he said when he found out I was buying an engine lathe was, "You'll need a copper hammer." He was right. They were so much like bubble gum in his shop, they cast the copper and handled them right there. Thanks, Tommy, wherever you are!
Crafterman I was blown away by that bird house...😳😳 Then the screwdriver just pushed it over the top...my...my...you are not just a iron head but a TRUE Crafterman... LOL...stay safe Mr.Crafterman...😁
Very close to Hurwood screwdriver. Love the faux ferrule! The fun thing is you can go to estate sales and garage sales and find vintage quality screwdrivers for a dime or quarter but eBay has discovered they bring $20 dollars!
I would've sworn you were going to save that bit of acetate handle! I hear people passing just before or after their retirement all the time sadly. I really try to take a lesson from that, have fun now as much as possible every day and not only make plans for someday. Thank you, great fabrication video!
John, i love that screwdriver in my opinion that's one of the most beautiful screwdriver that you have made , i do have a thing for wood handles but that's just my opinion
Love that screwdriver. Amazing handle. I have a smaller set of bits like that that I used at the hospital. I worked on a lot of machines that had a lot of security screws. It was very valuable to have. That set would be even better. Stay safe and healthy my friend. Thanks
You gotta get you an engraving set so you can add Made in USA & ScoutCrafter. It would be so rare and Magdad would wear out his old reference books looking for history on the ScoutCrafter Mfg Co. Nice job SC. When I grow up I want to be just like you. Thanks for the fun. 🤠
Nice job, that's a very nice project indeed. I agree that Ben is doing some great projects too. I only follow you, 357Magdad & Ben, for some reason I just cant get into any other channels, always looking forward to you guys putting up new content. 🏴🇬🇧
NICE fix and I watched these 2 backwards. I even got a dead blow hammer and I have used it. Not as much as the 3# but I have used it. GBWYou and happy monday!
Man that turned out really nice! And am I the only one who was pausing the video and then going over to Amazon to find those tools? In my browsing I see that there is a ratcheting version of that Malco nut driver.Great recommendations!
Thanks for the heads up on the hammers. I just got home from TSC where I picked up the hammers and went into the clearance section and scored a 3 pack of gloves (2 welding and 1 mechanics type) for $10, normally $20. We are going to give them a good workout tomorrow.
Yesterday I picked up a large Rosco square shank screwdriver with a translucent handle from a thrift shop for 99 cents, it had a broken tip, in the past I would had reground it on my bench grinder but I used the ScoutCrafter technique and did it using my angle grinder, wow, that works better, much easier to control the grind. I feel good about saving that old tool, I like it so much I can't wait for the patina to grow on the new ground area...LOL
Maybe wood paneling is makin' a comeback on our vehicles, tv's and appliances too 😂 Great job on the screwdriver. Clear grain ash prize went to excellent use. Bout needed an extra long pin punch there. In a way it's an homage to Patty. Nice bit set 👍 Still need 5/32" clutch drive on Holley Carburetor metering plates.
