This man has the patience of a Buddhist monk! (Unless the swearing has been edited out- if it were me, I’d either be swearing my head off, or gone completely off my head by now…) I could watch this all day- informative, interesting, well produced & presented, and very relaxing, for some reason. It ALMOST makes me want to start mucking about with rebuilding a classic bike engine! (I did buy a used gearbox gear set from a Ducati Monster for next to nothing just to figure out how it all works- input shaft, output shaft, gear forks and cogs- I built a stand out of plexiglass/acrylic to hold everything in its proper orientation and it’s on my desk at home, where I can flick the cogs and spin them when I should be working…) More, please!!!

Good work with that thing you call "the block", that level of detail in engine building is excellent. "The block" is a milled chunk of steel. Any competent machinist can reproduce one.

I actually bought a caswell plating kit and I’m in the process of doing all the bolts on my vintage bikes. Got kind of tired of the surface rust after 6 months of restoration so it was well worth the money. Great video!

What a bugger about that one bolt Great to see that you are soon methodical in your work I really wish that the younger generation today were brought up with the same pride in their workmanship Fantastic video looking forward to the next one Nick Australia

To echo Steve Chambers comment, it just goes to show how honest this channel is. In hindsight, it would have been better to check all threads first, BUT, this proves that we`re all human and make the odd mistake. Great to see it never got edited out.

Dear Dave, 40 years ago i had a bit of a problem wil on my T160, and i have always thought that i should get round to fixing it. Having watched your tender administration to the t160 which has only sat for 9 years then , i am dreading what demons await, but seeing your videos have greatly helped as a reference source. So many thanks for these and the confidence its given to me to get stuck in to my lockdown project. Top man. Duncan

Hi, Great series of videos on the T160. Very informative. As someone who works on triples, the pillar studs are a big weak point on the engine and I suppose Triumph had their reasons for using them, but they have given me grief on more than one occasion. Give me a T150 / A75 any day. I would also give a bit more detail on pushrod seals and the associated cup and paper gasket on the bottom of them. There are people that swear by a smear of silicone/sealant on the neoprene seals and some others that say 'no'. The importance of careful assembly in this area cannot be underestimated. The above points are just what I have experienced and are not a criticism of your excellent work.

Thanks for keeping the head bolt issue in the video, I’m sure you did check the threads and only when decent torque was applied did it become apparent. I hope there’s enough meat between the barrel and liner to fit an oversize insert. Nice to see some 500 footage too, they’re much under-rated, cheaper and lighter than dry frame Bonnies and great fun to ride. Chris

Back in the late 1070s I met a chap on his first ride on a refurbished and better than when new, Vincent comet. It had stopped and he had no idea what to do. I am not a mechanic and I was just walking home from work so I stopped for a nose round and offered my meagre opinion. After a while I found a weak irregular spark and the contact breakers only had a very tiny gap. I suspected the 'new' contact breaker heal was just bedding in. I adjusted the gap a little and he managed to kick it into life. As he rode away I noticed the advance lever was in the fully retarded position and the choke was still half on. I'm sure the exhause was blueing as he rode away. The words "more money than sense" sprang to mind. As if having a few bob means a person does not have to learn anymore. OOOOps forgot to say thanks for another splendid video.

Re-commissioning very well done and responsible. Each class increases the knowledge revealed. Using brass brushes of the type of oven, the cleaning will be better, since the bristles penetrate the living corners with greater depth and efficiency. And they leave the aluminum polished. Much obliged. I hope one day to be able to see an AJS or Matchless 650cc G12 model.

So about that YT algorithm. I had a dream a couple of nights back about looking for my next project bike and that dream was restoring a Trident. A couple of days later and this pops up on my feed. Hmmmm.... Anyway, great video and great series. Now that I have found this channel (or did it find me?), I can see a new obsession coming up. Also I might have to start the search for a T150/T160 :-)

Before filing bolt heads, it is worth trying to flatten burrs with a hammer. If you don't remove material, the chances of the spanner still fitting and not slipping off are better.

Too bad about this head bolt being worn, but when you have everything in parts again perhaps it'd be a good time to put some dowels holding rocker boxes in place? After some time they start moving around causing leaks and they are only part of those engines without dowels.

i love these recommission videos, keep up the good work!, ive got an BSA A65 that likes to jump out of thrid gear when accelerationg, and seems to miss the downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear some of the time, any chance on a video adressing worn cam plates and or worn plungers?

When you get that sinking feeling and the bolt is turning but not tightening! Man I hate that, especially when you aint gettin' paid for your own bikework. You had to have a few "son of a *****!" moments there. Just one time I want to see you angry!🤬Maybe throw a tool or kick a stool...something. lol. Zen and the art. I know... doesnt do you any good. Will it be a time cert? Stay tuned I guess. Who the hell puts a flat spot on a ball bearing?🧐 Best of luck you guys. Paul- Long Island. N.Y.
