I'm getting ready to buy a late '60s beetle from the family of a friend who recently passed away. I plan on restoring it and gifting it back to his daughter so I'm definitely going to be checking back to your channel often.
This is the first video I watched from you. I'm getting ready to purchase a 1963 Beetle. I restored a 1968 Beetle as my first car, but it's been years since I planned out a restoration. Excellent video!
cheers, I'm a painter in AU's, one thing I like to add is put your old bolts into the threads before painting so you won't break bolts because the threads are full of paint...you can also tap them but I prefer old bolts in to cover the threads.
Excellent! You read my mind. I have been asking myself "where to start, how to start, what comes first? whats better first? what should I ask or look for during painting-hunting..." and you know.. every day I change my mind on what color I should get it painted.. Silver, Yellow, Red, Orange, no, no Metallic brown...
Thanks Chris always like watching some of these earlier videos there is so much information that you put out there that is so helpful. Haven't seen any new ones or even if you are going to make the move to Florida. Stay Healthy and safe.
Hey Kenneth! Thanks for commenting! Yeah still operating, we are considered an essential biz (automotive) so we are still open and working. I put out two vids last week for the VW channel, I will have more next week. It has been hard since I am so busy at the shop plus I started a 2nd youtube channel called "Vallone's RC Hobby." Please check it out, I am a one man band! =o)
Subscribed ! Good video! I'm getting ready to get my 67 bug back on the road again. Dad got it for me when I was 13 I'm 38 now. Been sitting for 10 years... going through all your videos!
Good info, wish I had this when I started my project. I have parts scattered everywhere but I still have a vague memory of how everything should go back together haha I just ordered $1500 worth of parts for my '64 Bug, now I'm broke...
Great video's Chris. Glad I found you as I'm working on my first total tear down, 70 bug, for a rat rod. The next adventure (after this guinea pig pig is done) will be my 1-OWNER 67 bug. Really appreciate you taking the time out of your life and doing your video's.
Hi Chris, just subscribed. Enjoyed the talk through as I've just brought home my VW and I'm looking at doing some work on it after it's being abandoned for three years. I'm a blogger living out in the Philippines so parts are not easily found. Thanks for some of the parts by post links. Take care A Foreigner in the Philippines Terence
thank you so much !!! i am starting to do a restoration on a 65 notchback and this video and o9thers that you have put on it gives me a idea of how much work i have to do !! but little by little i will do it and send you pics !! thanks again !! God bless !! if you got any contacts for parts pls shoot me a few pls !!
Hi Chris, enjoying your videos from Brisbane Australia. Finally fulfilling my life long dream of restoring a bug. Dubbie has been gutted and is a shell, and that is how I adopted her. Unfortunately the previous owners were not so kind on her and there is no catergorizing just parts all thrown in a box. It makes more of a challenge to get a parts list together and that is a bit overwhelming, is there a link to all parts required that I can check off at all? The step by step speedy list was fantastic. Now to type it up and try and get some schedule to my project. Thank you for giving me such order to the ciaos. So grateful for you sharing your knowledge. You command an audience to get that pen and paper out! All the best and keep the vids coming! Karena
Karena, there really is no formal list unless you had a true VW shop parts book parts. I just generally walk around each car and make a list. It will take time to get the list together and let alone sit at the computer and make a shopping cart. Just take your time, and make it fun.
always wanted to put a car together myself, is there a good website for parts? ive seen a few but im not a seasoned vw veteran so i dont know which ones are good and respected
Awesome video I love that color in the gray beetle when you were talking about picking a color. Could.i ask the name of the color? Thanks again for the videos I'm doing my first beetle right now and was at the stage where I was a little overwhelmed till I found your videos.
I like to see the split window VW Bug with an aftermarket pop out rear window, fender skirts, and even tricked engine cover that look like it is going to fall off, including a "Paul Pope's Nose." That is applied to 1949-1952 VW Bugs.
Can anyone advise where is the beat place to restore my dad's old 1967 VW beetle? It was his first vehicle to own and one that brought his kids including myself home from hospital. It has great sentimental value to him and would be great to be restored. It is currently in Tanzania. Any ideas are most welcome!
@@classicvwbugs well not sure what sorts of budgets you work with but basically it has been worked on locally so it runs but not the kind of workmanship I would like. It would need a full interior rework (upholstery, carpet, headliner etc.) Body and paint rework, maybe new wiring and maybe some few engine replacement parts so would you have an idea of a budget based on the above?
@@almac121 Whenever you throw paint job into the mix it changes the whole thing. Now the car has to be completely GUTTED and stripped to bare metal. It is the proper way to do the job, but prices change from there. My resto program is called "Build-A-BuG" more info is here www.classicvwbugs.com/build-a-bug/
@@classicvwbugs cheers Chris, the link is quite helpful in terms of cost estimates. I will try and work out how and when to get it over to you once I am financially ready. In the mean time thanks for the rapid responses and keep up the good work.
I have a question for you, for the inner door seel can you use any fit able seel and cut it out your self or do you have to buy one. I know that they are cheap but any savings is always best on a project. And yes my profile pic is my project. Also thanks for all of the help from your videos I hope to hear back
Chris Vallone, thanks for the reply I was just thinking that if I did that then I'd have enough rubber for the both doors and much more for any other projects like my 86 blazer that needs new seels
eBay, craiglist, thesamba, Facebook, Hemmings, Classic Auto Trader, classiccars.com, cars.com, autotempest, youtube, bringatrailer, oodle, just to name a few
I just picked up a 71 autostick bug and from what I can tell it's completely original. The woman was the owner and the title I got from her mentioned it was from her family trust. I'm just looking for some more info on this particular vehicle and can't find your email anywhere
+Ethan Cline At the start and end of my video and even in the description is my website. On my website, there is a contact section, my email is there. I also mention my email at the end of the video.
HEY CHRIS, what floor pans would you recommend? my 63 sedan needs new pans, i want the to fit out of the box, no trimming, do those even exist? let me know, thanks
This video requires him to talk ..much* If you wanna see...go to a video with crappy music in the background that shows the cars...geez,its not that goddamn hard to find what your looking for on line....some people....
