We took a cd player and Muse's Absolution cd into the delivery room when my daughter was born. She took her first breath to Hysteria. I wasn't allowed to stay in the hospital that first night and spent a sleepless night at home trying to figure out the bass line for Hysteria. 18 years later, i was finally able to take her to our first Muse concert. It was like pure Beatlemania for her. When they started playing Hysteria...i might have lost it a little bit too. 🥺

You need to watch The Warning play it when they were little kids at Liceo de Monterrey in 2015! Muse was a huge influence on them. A few years later, they were on stage, opening four concerts in Mexico for Muse. After the last one, Matt Bellamy invited them to the UK to open for them five times there. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fU26wmlF3yg.html They have recorded an EP and four albums, and played on hundreds of stages. They are 19, 22, and 24.

Seeing Chris nail this bassline EVERY time he plays it, and the fact it requires such endurance (many people can nail this bassline with practice, but very few could play this for what is essentially on repeat for the ENTIRE song) just amazes me. Most recently I saw him play this bassline while he was standing RIGHT in front of me in Glasgow, rain POURING down, and he still nailed every note. The vibes of that gig were phenomenal.

Matt Bellamy invited The Warning to open for them in Mexico, and in the UK. He was so pleased with Dany, the Warning's guitarist, that he gifted her a one-off mustard yellow custom guitar. The Warning bassist, Ale, played Hysteria when she was 10...and showed off by playing it over the top of the neck. The Warning has 50 original songs, all by their early 20s. Here is Ale showing off by playing over the top of the neck. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fU26wmlF3yg.html

Yeah the few covers they did on that show were specifically geared towards showcasing their skills that they sent to Berklee College of Music, Crazy Train was for Dany, Everlong was for Pau and Hysteria for Ale. They later attended a summer program there after getting enough funds to enroll, despite only Dany being on the age limit of 15, Pau and Ale were only 13 and 10 respectively. Their mom had to carry her short-scale bass around. On of their teachers there was David Ellefson, Megadeth bassist, so that's pretty cool.

My band covers this. I'm the bassist. It's the one song that makes me nervous every show no matter how many times I've played it. To do it live you have to be so precise with the 16th notes for practically the entire song. It's not a tough riff. But that precision is super-critical to pulling it off.

Mexican rock prodigies, The Warning, played *Hysteria* live in 2015 when they were 10, 13, and 15. The then ten-year-old bass player, Alejandra, KILLED that dirty bass line on a half scale bass that was bigger than she was! It was her audition to get into the summer program at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Muse was one of their key influences, and one of their idols. A few years later, they opened for them four times in Mexico and five times in the UK! Matt Bellamy of Muse owns part of Manson Guitars. He was so impressed with Daniela, he gave her a custom mustard yellow Manson guitar, that she has played on tour recently. If you haven't checked out The Warning, know that they have an EP and three albums out since 2015, with a fourth on the way at the end of this month. They quit playing covers a long time ago, except for *Enter Sandman,* which made them famous in 2014 and again when they partnered with Alessia Cara of Canada to record a completely reimagined version of it for Metallica to put on their Black List album. If you haven't heard or reacted to The Warning, try any song from their 08/29/2022 concert at Teatro Metropolitan (on their channel). If you want a REAL treat, the whole *Queen of the Murder Scene* 13-song rock novel concept album is worth the time. I'm a huge prog fan of Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, The Who, etc. The Warning are currently my favorite rock band. *Queen of the Murder Scene* is amazing, written, composed, performed by teenagers (13, 16, and 18 at the Lunario debut concert, a video of which is on RU-vid on their channel).

For real. Indie and alternative rock, nu-metal etc. dominated from the close of the 90s to the late 00s, and it was fantastic. I feel like we've been in a hip-hop and hip-hop adjacent pop rut for over a decade now, where that's pretty much all the mainstream is. I'm tired of it. counterpoint - I LOVE the effect on the vocals, it puts the voice so far away it's giving me the same vibes as the vocals from Heroes by Bowie which sounded like they were coming at you from across a glacier somewhere. This puts the vocals similarly 'distant' which is just so fitting for THIS song of barely-repressed emoting, you don't want that Right Next to you.

Great reaction Doug!! One of my (if not the) favourite Muse song!! That bass line is what gets me every time - especially live!! Chris just takes off with it! Like on the album, the song is lead into by a short instrumental called 'Interlude' - which perfectly segues into Hysteria. I'd love to hear your reaction to Map Of The Problematique from the follow up album, Black Holes & Revelations. There's a lot of amazing stuff to dive into with Muse! And yes, you NEED to check The Wall movie!! Cheers.

My favorite Muse tunes are “Bliss” and “New Born”. Would love to see Doug react to either of those!

One of the best bass lines. I do like several Hysteria bass covers as you can truly hear the bass lines through the whole song. A shoutout - while not a "bass" cover, "2 Cellos" has a great version for those that haven't seen it. My love of music Muse is Unnatural Selection.

To play this song on bass I do the following: Play speed metal for 2 hours prior, take Advil 1/2 hour prior, consume 2 drams of the Macallan 10 minutes prior, press play, enjoy the searing pain in my right hand when finished, consume congratulatory dram of the Macallan. Awesome song. The pedal point bass line by Chris is a Muthaf*&ka (he hates playing it for the same reason), but it really makes you concentrate on 16th note precision between the plucking hand and fretting hand, absolute MONSTER!

Hi Doug, I very rarely comment under videos but here you are interested in a band that makes me vibrate very deeply... You should really be interested in ''Space dementia'', the rest of' 'absolution' (as you did with Dark side of the moon) or 'hoodoo', 'aftermath' which has sounds close to Pink Floyd. Muse is an incredibly interesting band.

That music video is really something else. It started out as a standard MV then the twist and turn. Geezus. The dude fell in love with what he thought was a sweet girl, he stalked her for days on the streets recording her from afar. he finally got his chance and went on a date and hooked up with her. Feeling incredibly lucky to get the girl who he had a major crush on. During that time he rewatched the video he recorded of her. He noticed something off, something odd while reviewing the tapes. She always kept standing on the street corner talking to people in their cars passing by. He finally realized that she was only with him because he was just another client. Heart Broken and shattered like the song, his heart imploded, now knowing that he fell in love with a prostitute. He snaps in a fit of rage destroying the hotel room.

Muse are my favourite band, so I might be little biased, but you can't really appreciate them without seeing them live! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZqCOzgYQsKI.html That's a version of Hysteria live!

Since you've returned to Muse, maybe you could check out something by the young Mexican band, The Warning, who cite Muse as one of their prime influences. Perhaps "Choke" or "Evolve" from their third album, "Error".

Muscle Museum has their best bass line, or Plug in Baby if not done it which is similar to Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565.
