Review of the Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Guitar Amp used here for acoustic classical guitar. Battery or AC powered, 30 watts stereo sound, 10 pounds. See it on Amazon: amzn.to/2JJewJb
Also see my review of this classical guitar piezo pick that does behind the saddle: www.thisisclas...
Here's my mini review of the Roland AC-33 Acoustic Chorus Guitar Amp designed for acoustic guitar but used here for classical guitar. The three main things I was looking for in an amp is 1) Battery Powered, 2) Small, portable, light and therefore easy to lug around to gigs, 3) Specifically for acoustic guitar. I actually think the reverb is good and because I use a piezo pickup for casual gigs (weddings, cocktail parties etc) adding some ambience in dry rooms is important. Too bad there is no phantom power but really for gigs better to use something else anyway. Anti-Feedback switch might be useful.

I applaud your style on this video. Easy to understand, not biased, great guitar talent. I really enjoyed this video regardless of whether I purchase this particular amp.

Thanks for the review! Have used this professionally for three years now and it's a really, really excellent practical tool for the performing background music classical guitarist. Very reasonably priced, I LOVE the rechargeable battery pack (I bought a spare from overseas and another set of Eneloop Pro batteries), light weight, and feedback suppression. Easy battery replacement in emergencies sets this apart from its peers as far as I'm aware, an internal battery is too risky. I get about 6 hrs before i start to get twitchy about it running out! Added an internal mic to my guitar and really adds spice and depth. Reverb and clarity remarkably good for a small amp. If Roland were to bring out an upgrade with a smidge more power I'd buy it INSTANTLY. Would benefit from a lightweight stand mount underneath for indoor gigs with loud crowds, and a low battery warning light is always useful. Oh and the range of inputs/outputs very helpful on the back - it's been used for wedding speeches, phone playlists during breaks and even as a monitor so it's very versatile. Roland, make a supercharged upgrade and take my money!!

Yeah, that's a nice little kit. Pretty natural and wholesome sound. Other amps can make an acoustic sound like the guitar is holding its nose - lol (the sound is anything but natural). Easy-haul and flexible package. I like the dual channels. Chorus doesn't do anything for me though, but that's just my own little gripe. Thanks for the review. I'm going to look into one. Anything is better than my Line 6 Spider II. That's a beast (although I like the speakers).

Thank you so much for the review! I have been using the AC-90 and I love it. I feel like the amp does not add “color” to the sound which is great for a classical musician! I like that you can use batteries on the AC-30 but it doesn’t have phantom power.

Ya, the 90 is great for 'real gigs' on stage or concertos. This one is better for lugging around since it's so light.

@thisisclassicalguitar Thank you for the review. And thank you for all your high quality videos on your channel. 🙏🏼 Looking for a high quality amplifier at the moment. The main thing that I’m doubting about this one is the power of the amp and the size of the speakers. Quality of the amplified sound is the main spec for me. I’m looking for an amp that can reproduce a full, defined and both clear and warm tone in venues of about 100 people. This one seems a little too small for this. What is your opinion (and experience) about this ? As a comparison: I’ve also seen amps like the H&K ERA1 and 2, or something very different like a line array (like for instance the EV Evolve 30M). Would love to hear your opinion on these amps ? Or maybe you could do a video about these ? Another question: Almost all amp reviews I’ve seen on RU-vid are performed in a small room. Is it possible that you can also do reviews in bigger venues, or maybe even outdoors ? That would be a great addition ! Thank you in advance for your reply and keep on the great work !

good review. let me suggest a little thing - put the amp towards your left side and like this you keep away the guitar body from the amp and will have less feedback. jazz guitar players always do that and it will work for classical as well.

Yes, but not a huge drop in volume, I think because it's actually stereo, so it's 10+10 on battery, 15+15 on AC mains. This configuration seems far more efficient than a 20watt mono or 30watt mono setup.

I would imagine that it would sound pretty good. I mean, there is EQ still so you can mess around with it. Maybe it's designed to control the bass and mid range more but I kind of doubt it. It just has all the things an acoustic steel string performer might need.

i do it. electric guitar amps are EQ'd differently, so it won't sound like a Fender or Marshall, etc. If you want to use distortion, you'll need an EQ filter or IR response to emulate a speaker cabinet. It's all about tailoring those mid-range frequencies
@drdavid62
@drdavid62 5 лет назад
This amp is characterized as an ‘acoustic guitar amp’. Are there amps out there that are marketed specifically for ‘Classical Guitar’? And if so, do their electronics differentiate them significantly from a generic acoustic guitar amp or is the sound about the same? Classical guitars have such a distinctly different sound compared to steel string acoustics I wonder if this is factored into amp design. The amp did sound good - a nice clean unprocessed sound - not ‘electronic’ sounding if that makes sense..

classical guitars are acoustic guitars. they are nylon string vs steel string. the point of an acoustic amp is to try and preserve the sound as much as possible (flat frequency response), whereas electric guitar amps impart their own color to the sound. if you find a "classical guitar" amp you'll likely be paying extra $$ for the specialty niche marketing.

That way you're getting the advantages of the AC33 but also have access to more grunt. The AC33 are about finesse more than the other acoustic guitar amps; they're notoriously low power.
