If you want a few originals you could listen to their Pop Spring performance. 3 originals, one Medley, all in a professionally recorded live performance at a Japanese festival. It is quite long, but well worth a watch! Scott, Mitch and Kirstin all get lead spots over the 3 originals, so it is quite a nice spread.
I'll second this! Most reactors don't take the time to break things down like you, so you could break it up into 4 vids to keep it from being a marathon length video.
One of my favorites! I am in a wheelchair and every single day I play this song, back to back and "march" while in my wheelchair. It's fast, it's fun and makes me smile the entire time! He is indeed a human 808❤
Here is the interview everyone is mentioning. It is at a radio station. It does go through exactly how the song was written and yes it is Avi and Kevin again so more running 🙂 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bC9TicW0iiY.htmlsi=H0t-VP4Lu8L6HcA0 Note - their manager was Avi's sister Esther until 2 or 3 years after he left the band.
If you plan to react to this, please listen to the original first. You'll notice that PTX changed some of the explicit lyrics to more family friendly and funny ones.
Fantastic reaction and analysis. Two things are happening now. We are beginning to expect greatness from your reactions, and the quality of other reactors just isn't measuring up. This is my favorite PTX original. My second favorite is "Sing" which is another Avi era number. I'm sure you'll get to it eventually. It's amazing you've done 25 and there are still so many great ones left that have Avi Kaplan. Eventually you'll get to the Matt era, but this journey is so awesome for all of us.
I've been a big fan of this original since the 1st time I heard it. There's just so much going on quite well. I've been waiting patiently for you to give your breakdown and analysis of it. I mean . . who woulda ever thought that an acapella song could be a popular feature at one of today's 'Dance Clubs'? ? ? Thanks for your reaction!
🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️ .. YES !!! You did it Sir Hairless - you opted for one my song requests, they always say that the 25th time is the charm 🍀 And .. we almost saw you dancing .... almost. It was another excellent reaction with much music knowledge inserted. But honestly .. this is just a really fun song with a driving beat by Kevin & Avi. Kevin seems like an alien on this one , he makes acupella a whole new thing. You could have surprised us all with dark eye make-up , or silver face paint.... he he he he .. (( .. especially when you do you Future Sir Hairless.. )) .. thanks for reacting to a dance song , even though you sat still !! 🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️🎼🧟♀️
@@SirHairless a little laughter goes along way. Thanks for responding, ... I needed a little pick me up today. Keep your great reactions coming , they are very entertaining. Cheers !! ((.. that means coffee to me ..)) 🎼👍
Please react to Mitch's cover of Find You ( by Jedd ) with pianist Evan Duffey on Duffey's channel. I don't remember how old it is but probably about the same time as this because Mitch looks like this time period and we all know he didn't look the same for long periods. I've never seen anyone react to it but I love it.
This original Pentatonix creation has great appeal to me. As one of the judges in the Sing-Off said, “you always have at least one surprise for us in every piece you do”. There were actually 2 or 3 surprises in this piece for me. I love how they moved from minor to major chords and back, I haven’t often heard that. And no one is as good as Avi at creating truly frightening facial images, he can be quite shocking 😊. And that deep, driving combo of Kevin and Avi was heavily emphasized in this song, I did appreciate them having a prominent role. As usual, really enjoy how you break down a piece and share the importance of why some musical decisions get made
They actually have quite a few originals. Sing, Light in the Hallway, Can't Sleep Love, New Year's Day, and Coffee in Bed, just to name the ones I remember off the top of my head. Each one is different from the one before. I'd recommend Sing, New Year's Day, and my favorite Light in the Hallway.
I love this old original of theirs... it's like they went to town, optimizing each member's vocal skills and allowing them to showcase their full range. From overtones to that high G, and EDM tech to subterranean bass, everyone gets to shine. I always assumed that Avi did all the low parts, but now you have me reconsidering. This song is an excellent vehicle for Kevin, but the bass sounds, too? Mind bending! Thanks for kicking my brain into gear this Saturday morning. 😉
Fascinating to see you finding elements of what that makes this song special. It is probably the one song I like the best, that has most meaning for me, from PTX. I had cared for my dying dad for half a year, and I just found Pentatonix during the last days of his life. He was a musician himself, so it would have been much fun to listen to these tunes together with him. Instead, after he died, I sat in a haze listening to every song by PTX, but there was one title I didn't recognize, so I put off listening to it until there were no other songa left: Love again. After listening three times, I couldn't get enough of it. Avi stood out because I recognized him, as the character in the video, with the pony tail, the tattoos by the temple, markings on the forehead and the charcoal around the eyes. I had been writing on a novel for many years, but only had half of the story. There was one character in this story who hadn't spoken yet. A warrior-priest by the name of Garamiel of Ferryside, with dark hair in a pony tail, markings at his temple and signs on his forehead and charcoal around his eyes. He had been part of a few scenes, but never did anything by himself or said anything. But while I was listening to Love Again, he stepped forward and flooded me with the other half of the story, exactly three days after dad's demise. I found a video with Love again on repeat for 10 hours, and I wrote day and night for a month. A few days into the writing, I started hearing snippets of the text from the song and realised that it echoes the story of Garamiel quite a bit. I am working on a translation of the book into English. It's an adventure and love story set in a future world where there are no ideologies and therefore no politicians anymore. Garam is the main hero/anti-hero. I've been thinking on how to thank Avi for unknowingly creating a costume that was so point on that it stirred Garam to tell his part in that very strange period in my life.
Okay, I’ll be the odd one out on this one… while I like a lot about this, it’s nowhere near the top of my favorite’s list. You have brought attention to several things I’ve missed in this song, and that helps. This is certainly creative. When I looked through all the suggestions for their other originals, I see a lot that I’ll look forward to, and several that don’t get the attention they deserve for lack of an accompanying music video. But no video isn’t all bad…. Keeps my attention focused on the music without distraction. Finding #25 this morning was a great start to the day! Hope you are having some really great family time 🎶
Besides the Pop Spring performance I’d love to see you react and breakdown their cover of My Favorite Things. I love the arrangement , the production and of course, love the song.Rather Be is a great one as well.
Loving your PTX reactions, analysis and breakdowns. If you’re in the anatomy of the beatbox techniques then The Fairy Voice Mother has done a few videos on that specifically 😊
This will always be my favorite original. It makes me feel so much warmth and transported somewhere else, I just love it. Beautiful reaction and analysis🤍
I love this original! Can't help dancing in my chair every time. That bass drop from Avi is great fun and just perfect. I never saw a concert performance of it, but I think I know why. There is a reactor who is a beatboxer who explained that the deep throat beat Kevin is doing in the second verse is really hard to do and can damage your vocal cords if you do it too much. I think weeks of them doing this in concert might have been dangerous for Kevin to do, so we only have this video and one other performance they did during an interview to see it. Thanks for the great reaction!
I just absolutely love your reactions. You give so much details and in turn I hear things I've missed even after listening to the songs for yrs. Well done!
🤔🤔🤔 .. ???? Sir Hairless , I just made an interesting observation. You have made 25 reactions to the expert acupella group Pentatonix, and you have made 14 reactions to expert Country based acupella group , Home Free , and you have not reacted to " A-HA " by Pentatonix and you have not reacted to " Man Of Constant Sorrow " , by Home Free.❓️❓️❓️❓️ That seems impossible, but all of us fans know that both group have hundreds of videos. These are 2 must see & hear songs and I am anxiously awaiting these reactions. Thank you Sir Hairless for your appreciation of new music to your ears and your willingness to share your observations. Great stuff every single time !
Everybody goes crasy in their very own way)) you with pop, and my mood today is with Lindsey Stirling (Master of tides and Raundtable Rival) and 2Cellos - Thunderstruck, no AC/DC and little devils with funny horns, just music)) Have a good time there!
I really love your reactions - especially your analysis of different parts. A good video to enjoy their acapella skills is “Can you feel the love again” from the Lion King ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cT1Kzk7akjQ.htmlfeature=shared. Another awesome video showing their skills is the live version of Hallelujah ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-haFHrfmfHbc.htmlfeature=shared. And, finally, Amazing Grace - My Chains are Gone ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Obp-9BEZe1c.htmlfeature=shared
Sir Hairless you always blow my mind. I am astounded at how much you glean from a musical performance. It truly enhances one's appreciation of what the artists have produced. Unlike other reactors, you focus on musical structures rather than on vocal technique (or like the really bad reactors whose total contribution to the music is WOW).
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed As I often mention, I believe the musical structure underneath the singing is what truly creates the feel of a performance - more so than vocal technique alone
Your admiration of Kevin is so welcome. What he can do musically-but for a RU-vid text from Scott, Kevin would have been a doctor. I’m sure he would have impressed the medical world. They are so creative and talented. Another older original is SING.
Kevin doesn't do the low throbby bass anymore because it was too hard on his voice. The man is amazing. Check out New Rules x Are You That Somebody for some awesome beats and bass. Also a brilliant mashup!
Definitely hoping New Rules X is on Hairless's list as it's straight fire and such a great intro to Matt. Also hoping for a "not Christmas season" review of Joyful, Joyful (live version) with Mitch doing that absolutely sickening intro (i love Ms. Sullivan and Mitch kinda stole that intro like he owned it).
I've been trying to get him to do some Matt songs but he said he wants to get through a lot of the Avi era before he moves onto Matt. So it's going to be a bit.
This one was written by Avi and Kevin, with input from Mitch on his part. And in the percussive section where Kevin is doing the throat singing, Avi is providing the drum percussion. Watch at the end where he "powers down"...
Oh my, two polar opposite originals. This is why you can't pigeonhole PTX. Finding a favorite song, minus Christmas, of course, is difficult imo. That's probably just me though. Have to say I'm overjoyed you like PTX as we've lost reactors along the way (the generic ones). Hope you are enjoying your time away and, thank you for thinking of us Pentaholics while away. Thanks, too, for your input on this "different" style of song. 😊 Edit: It's 2 days later and you asked about song recommendations...anyone ever tell you about Todrick Hall The Wizard of Ahhhs featuring PTX? Unique video.
Can you react to pop spring 2016. It’s longer because it’s part of a live performance. 4 songs……a real good mix of their own work & a fabulous cover. PRETTY PLEASE 🙏
For more originals, I think PopSpring 2016 is the best choice, it includes 3 originals and an evolution of all done live with amazing video and sound quality. It’s always been my favorite live video (now I think KISS from a rose is my favorite).
Lovely reaction. There is a great live version of this that they did for an interview the video is Pentatonix: Love Again (Live on 24/7). There is one overhead mic to catch them all and then Kevin has a separate mic and they are just stood in a group in a kind of backstage/dressing room type area. I think you'd find it interesting to hear a live version to compare.
You should react to Happy Now. That is an original. Also would love to see you do a reaction to their 12th Sing Off performance Dog Days Are Over. Please Please.
🌟This is why they are PHENOMENAL!!!🌟 There are videos of them doing this LIVE! And the most incredible is them doing this song off microphone!! The fact that Kevin looks like a cyborg is very fitting!. The part you thought was a double track is just Kevin doing a throat bass and Avi is doing a deep hum. And I LOVE Avi does the overtone. The rapid beeping sound Kevin is doing is CRAZY! He did some of it in their "Starships" song which has a disclaimer in the beginning of the video stating that all the noises are made by the band members. PENTATONIX are AMAZING and I can't wait for you to do more of their original songs❣️
I'd love to see your analysis of the popspring concert. There is a video with 4 songs, 3 originals and a Michael Jackson Medley. I think you would enjoy it
Yea! PTX and Sir Hairless! Again, the live performance of this, off mic (well, except for Kevin for effect) (Avi should have had one too, in my opinion), for someone who was interviewing them lets you see what they can do without the studio effects for all in the video! That is Kevin doing that lower throat noise! You guessed correctly! I hear Scott saying "Word!" on the times you say you hear small dinosaur sounds! 😂 Pentatonixism! I love it! New word for my vocabulary! I would love to see you react to a live performance of theirs! Especially their "Evolution of" videos!
Yes, this is one of my favorite originals by ptx. The combo of Avi and Kevin always produce such interesting and unexpected sounds. I believe Avi and Kevin are supposed to be robots (the mechanical part), and the trio is the dance part. Other original suggestions are light in the hallway, standing by, and sing. Cheers! PS I hope you're having a wonderful visit with family 😊
Please check out their originals Coffee in Bed and Be My Eyes. Kirsten is the lead singer in the Be My Eyes video, and it's stunning to watch and experience. Have you considered checking out Superfruit (Scott/Mitch) and Kevin has his own channel KO. Scott has released some solo music this year as well. Kirsten has an album she did on her own, and it's gorgeous to listen to! Kevin has some amazing covers using looping, which he is incredible at. I would also love to hear your reaction to Mad World. All of these videos were made during covid, and they actually produced several songs during the pandemic that are stunningly beautiful!!! If you're interested in their creative productions, please watch Making of Evergreen. They had 2 weeks to come up with 14 Xmas songs for their tour in 2022. I think you'll find so many treasures. I would also encourage you to check out any live versions from their Hollywood Bowl September 2023 concert. There were over 17,000 people there, and you'll see Matt doing a lot of the songs that you've reacted to with Avi as their bass singer. I really enjoy your channel and look forward to more acapella reactions from Voiceplay and PTX!!!
Always enjoy the analysis and pointing out subtle bits that have escaped me, even after listening to the song dozens of times. Glad that Pentatonix can still surprise you, even after all of the reactions you've done to them! This was their follow-up release after Daft Punk - great catch on noting the similarities in the visual aspects! I tend to kind of think of this song as their "Star Wars Cantina" song - all of the costumes and makeup wouldn't look out-of-place in a Star Wars movie, and while the Cantina band might have a problem replicating this sound, putting them into a cantina as the main attraction wouldn't look that odd at all. I love the way Kirstin looks with the bright green contact lenses! That deep bass sound you pointed out was indeed Kevin, but he says that it hurts his throat to do it, so AFAIK this is the only song he's performed it in. And since this is almost 10 years old, I don't think they perform it much anymore. One thing I'm not sure if you spotted on first watch - keep an eye on Avi and Kevin as the song ends. Avi goes into his "robot losing power" look and loses eye contact with the camera, Kevin is looking everywhere BUT the camera, even as the Trio are looking straight at it.
AM I HAPPY, HAPPY NOW. I absolutely love this song. My Pentaholic senses are singing. Thank you so much. And as always after your reaction I hear so much more. Greetings from South Africa
Oh fabulous! If you want to skip the personal portion, go to the last paragraph This is a song I've never been able to get through. Once Mitch hits that G5, the entire bottom drops out for me. I have two TTP implants in each of my ears. They are like tiny little antennas that capture vibration. The implants are anchored in the bone and work similar to the tympanic membrane. Unfortunately, all frequencies aren't picked up, and higher frequencies create feedback. Think microphone and speaker too close together. Once Mitch hits that G5, the feedback kills the entire bottom and I have never been able to go further. I wanted to see what I was missing through your analysis, so I muted and waited for you to pop up and speak. After playing around, going forward and backwards, I was able to skip Mitch's higher parts and apply your commentary to the other portions of the song. That was a challenge! I made great progress! I know it's not perfect and I know I'm still missing a lot, but it's the first time I've heard the second half and been able to pull out the bass. I wish I could convey the joy and gratitude I feel. I wish I could shake your hand and thank you for the world you've helped reopen for me. I may be limited to PTX, but I can tell you, the joy and happiness in my heart is beyond words. Thank you once again! With great respect, Theresa
Thank you so much, Theresa I’m happy to hear these videos are able to help you - even if it’s just a bit - to rediscover music and allow you hear more of this music we can share and enjoy. The pleasure is mine 😊
As always, thanks for such a glorious and thorough examination of Pentatonix. I liked that one comment, which we all realize at one time or another: “Of course, Mitch.” Try Sing, another early PTX original, for a joyous vibe that just doesn’t quit. Peace …
How I would love for you to analyze the complex compositions of symphonic metal bands like Nightwish, Epica and Delain, or the progressive rock/metal project Ayreon.
I absolutely LOVE your reactions and break down of PTX! 25! Hoping for so many more! Your facial expressions show how much you enjoy and just how deeply you understand what musical magic they are creating with their voices! Thank you! P.S. I love Matt. I love Avi’s solo music. I miss Avi in PTX! ❤️
Have thumbed up PTX "Popspring" Live concert in Japan - knowing you'll feel it's long - but maybe you could break it into individual numbers? 3 originals, plus a medley cover, still with Avi, and truly well recorded, as opposed to fan cams.
I have to admit, this is not my normal style of music.. the first time I heard it, it was catchy but it wasn’t my style. I put it to the side. Came back and listened again a short time later and I absolutely love it. I really like how you find the interesting/unique/special/etc parts of the song and explain how it works and why it’s unusual or unexpected.
Yes, you have done so much of their older works. "Kiss from a Rose" is one of their newest and you can see their maturity. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3NEFUOLtxs.html So much fun!
🥳This is my favorite original! There is live recording during an interview that is just 🤯. I also recommend Popspring 2016- you would definitely need to break it up. I would also LOVE to hear your breakdown of another audio-only early original, See Through. It’s so excellent, but few react to it because there isn’t a video.
Whoa - so early! Sat down for s mellow Saturday a.m. and delighted by another Sir Hairless PTX reaction. There is a video of them doing this off mic for a news crew. They had a portable mic to amplify Kevin's volume, but the throat bass/beatboxing stuff he does in this song is just 🤯.😂
The thing with this tune is that if Paul Oakenfold or Carl Cox had blasted it out at one of the big clubs not one person would have guessed it was a cappella
I love how they can do any genre. They have also done classical pieces. I saw you did their Dance of The Sugar Plum Fairy, but I am hoping that you will do their cover of Waltz of The Flowers.
God, SH, I would like to be so much in your head when you listen to music and hear what you hear. What a bliss that must be! It´s already such a joy just watching you listening!
Since you asked about originals and live performances, I’ll repeat a request for Popspring since it includes Water, a beautiful original song and their Michael Jackson medley live (it blows my mind every time I see it). You will have so much to work with it may do you in 😂
You should check out their live performance 'Popspring 2016', it's got 4 songs in it so it's a bit longer (15 or so minutes), but three of the four songs they do during it are originals (Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water) along with one of their Evolution pieces. It is totally worth the listen! Water is my favorite by far
i LOVE this one, acapella EDM is something only them could give me. and yes, this IS kevin's show. really cool that you checked out the lyrics before the reaction one of their most popular originals is can't sleep love, and i would reccoment reacting the 2016 popspring live performance instead of the music video
They did this at the same time as Daft Punk. I think they were in the futuristic mode at the time. An extremely low budget and a keen need to get themselves seen. I adore this one, love Mitch in it and wish it was longer. I've heard that this wasn't sustainable for Kevin with the throat singing work. It was too hard on him to do it over and over in concert. It's sad but I totally understand. I hope you will be able to hear Kevin on his site do his cover of "Down". I know you will appreciate every aspect he tosses at you. He's an all around talent. He also has perfect pitch. Thanks for an amazing reaction (from your face) and sharing of your knowledge. It's appreciated......
Futuristic PTX is certainly cool - the videos are great! And totally understand about the throat singing - my throat hurts after filming a video from speaking, so I can’t imagine how much stress doing what he does causes 😅
Thanks for the reaction. Some more originals to consider: Sing - very fun and upbeat Water - older on no MV Anchor - fan favorite no MV A Little Space - featuring some of the members of the K-pop group Ateez Can’t Sleep Love - fun song and fun video 2 version on has a rap ft Tink Midnight in Tokyo ft Little Glee Monsters The Lucky Ones - about their journey Hope this helps you pick out some more originals to react to.
I love your reactions. Watching your channel has helped me so much. Now, when I'm trying to convince somebody who hasn't heard of PTX and dislikes Acapella I have actual ways to express my love for them instead of just fangirl info dumping on a stranger. Thanks for educating all of the Pentaholics like me who never took music classes but have a deep passion for music!! 🎧🎤💜
After doing their Daft Punk Medley they got inspired by the aesthetics and also the edm sound. The video theme is Steampunk space aliens, with Kevin being pretty much the instrumental cyborg. I heard this song with headphones for the first time (which is the best way to hear the full effect, imo.) and when Kevin did that Bass Drop I lost my mind and forgot that I was out in public. Lol It caught me off guard and I instantly felt like I was at an EDM festival. When he dropped that bass I did an assdrop.😂 I love this song.
My other favorite besides this one is "Sing". I'm not sure if you have featured it yet. It is a Patreon collaboration and it is so fun! Even some celebrities got in on the fun.
Avi has been known to do 2 different notes at one time. I know this sounds strange, but you can watch "Full Interview and Performance of Love Again" Live where Avi explains it. He accentuates the natural overtones of his voice with his tongue and mouth, and gives an example. You should react to it, or just watch. I'd enjoy your live reaction though. It's 10:28 minutes and Kevin explains some of his beatboxing as well.
Their Popspring performance has 3 original songs: Cracked, Can't Sleep Love, and Water. They also do the Evolution of Michael Jackson, and the entire performance is live. It's kind of long though, so if you want to analyze them, you could always do separate videos for each. Cracked is a Scott-heavy song, Can't Sleep Love has lots of great Mitch moments, and Water is a Kirstie lead, so you also get a variety out of this concert.
Pentatonix is truly genre-less which may be why they don’t get airplay. They aren’t a pop group because they won a Grammy for arranging a medley of Daft Punk EDM songs. They aren’t an EDM group because their second Grammy was from arranging Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy a classical tune from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. They aren’t a classical group because they won their third Grammy with country icon Dolly Parton singing a remake of Jolene a country song. They are a jack of all genres (trades) but they are truly Masters of all of it.
Another fascinating Sir Hairless reaction! A very talented band and a very talented reactor. Thanks for all the PTX reactions. Please keep reacting to the best a cappella band that we all love ❤️
Wait one second, SH at University going to crazy parties and music festivals? 😱 😂 And yet another great word description by SH, baby dinosaur. 🦖 I mean you are so correct that is exactly what it is!! Another great video!! 👍🏻
To me, this video is completely nuts, and totally irrelevant to the lyrics. Buy boy, is it fun! And of course, the music is first rate. Thanks for doing this one.
You MUST follow this type of style with the next closest, also again, featuring Mitchipoo, called SEE THROUGH. These 2 songs stand far apart from 'usual sound' you can also notice the edm feel on kirsties solo album, citing her song "up all night", she has said her & mitch like a lot of edm stuff.
