For the 8th video of this mini series, I showed classically trained vocal performance majors Luna & jinyoung's 'Father' performance at Immortal Songs 2.

This series won't be updated as often as the 'Classical Musicians React to Kpop' series, but will hopefully cover some great live performances of KPOP groups/vocalists. I am only featuring KPOP vocalists on this series, hence why we haven't reacted to So Hyang yet. I may branch out in the future, but for now, I will only focus on featuring kpop vocalists.
I will be focusing on Immortal songs 2, Fantastic Duo, and Duet Song Festival idol performances that I personally am curious to see how my vocalist friends will react to & analyze vocal technique of.

Luna is currently the best technical female main vocalist in kpop and she's done a lot of musicals too. Her sisters amazing as well and her tone is soo good and that resonance

I wouldn’t say she’s the best technical female vocalist. Ailee still has a stronger mixed, consistently supporting up to E5/F5 compared to Luna’s D5/Eb5. Though I do think Luna’s one of the best in Kpop rn.

Absolutely, I know a little bit of classical singing, but it's just the basics.. pretty much nothing, so I kind of could understand better what they were talking about and loved how it was super easy to understand that even if i didnt know the little things I would've totally be wowed about it and loved it.

I think Ailee still has her beat in technique though. Their lower registers are both pretty equal but Ailee’s mixed and upper registers are more developed with consistent support up to E5/F5 and up to B5 with head voice.

Well if you're talking about SM female vocalist I would argue the same, Luna's skill is definitely up there with the likes of Taeyeon and Wendy (Luna might be slightly better), and as for the boys maybe Ryeowook and Chen. But if we're talking about the whole Kpop I think Ailee is still better than Luna tho.

Josh Pasanting Ailee is more is a Korean singers instead of an idol lol but yes Ailee is amazing. Luna though is up there for girl group vocalists if not the best along with taeyeon

RedHeatCorona92 If you look up vocal analyses online you can see that Luna is not only the best female vocalist in SM but also the best girl group vocalists in kpop at this moment. But you are right in one thing which is that Ailee is better as she is the overall best female vocalist in kpop.

I don't know if you've seen it yet, but Luna just released her newest single today, "Night Reminiscin'", that she composed (she said she's been working on this song for 2 years). I'm not sure how musically complex it is since it's a ballad, but it's a really pretty song and her voice sounds really beautiful I think. Not just sisters, but _twins!_ Jinyoung is the (slightly) elder, and according to a comment Luna made during the "Jessica & Krystal" reality miniseries, routinely insists on the full benefits of being the elder sibling ("Unnie"), and is pre-emptory or demanding (in senior-mode) to Luna in return, though the difference in their ages is measurable in minutes instead of months...

Luna is the most underrated female vocalist in kpop. Maybe because of f(x) musics, but f(x) music is great! But when it comes to Luna’s solo & musical, her vocals is so amazing. For currently active kpop singer: Ailee > Luna >> Wendy > Hyolyn Sorry for not mentioning sohyang

firdaus mat Hyolyn is a strong vocalist but Wendy has better techniques. SM trained their vocalists very, very well. Maybe one of the best company to search for good vocalists.

Just to point out, the episode was during chuseok and not the lunar new year. During chuseok you spend all your time with your relatives and family and that’s why the theme was family!! But i loved the reaction and i hope you’ll continue to react to Luna!!

I’m crying I suggested this song a while back on one of the first vocals react and it got through. This song makes me cry all the time and it’s even better that Luna sang it with her sister and their parents were in the audience. Thanks Umu 💖💖

The best part about this channel besides it combining my two favorite categories, (K-pop and classical), is that everyone on this channel knows what they are talking about musically. Even if the song itself is not to their particular liking, they can unbiasedly break down pieces and consider a song for what it truly is. That goes across the board for both the musician channel and the vocalists channel. Everything else is just added bonus points. They can recognize messages in songs and have these forward thinking mindsets in which, even if a song is technically decent, they will override that when the message of a song degrades a set of people and/or shames. I don't listen to K-pop as actively as i used too anymore; but i always come back to this channel when new videos come out because each individual reactor is an amazing being with such intelligence, fire and passion besides them. This has been a long comment, but I've been following this channel for a long time and i just wanted to say how much i truly love and appreciate everyone here. 😊💕 thank you all for being so amazing.

"Not too heavy without being too breathy at the same time." - Hugo Exactly why I love Luna's voice. Her high notes are just exactly how I want it to be as well. Not too high, and not strainy at the same time. Very easy to listen to.

I loved watching this. I don't know a lot about Luna or her sister but wow, it was really interesting to see how the vocalists broke it down. Especially with the belting in pop versus classical and how the muscles work. I also just saw at the end screen that you guys will ve reacting to JYJ In Heaven which gets me so excited because it's one of my favourite JYJ songs.

The talk about the differences in contemporary and and classical singing was super interesting to me as someone who has been trained in opera for eight years lol. I sing Kpop a lot though because, well, I'm a Kpop fan, but obviously I can't belt as I've never learned how. I've been able to create an okay-ish sound (I think) by placing my head voice very forward so it sounds light and crisp like a chest voice. Of course it'll never sound exactly like a pop singer but it's good enough for me lol. By the way I have no idea if I used the correct terms because I've only been taught how to sing physically(?) without use of terminology because I'm not a music student.

Nice to see Gwen again :) There are some singers in kpop who are trained as classical singers or sounds like them. Shannon Williams sang for a musical (Les Miserables?), Kei of Lovelyz sounds absolutely briliant in one of her Girl Spirit performances (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kugu4ivPX38.html) and Yoonjo (former member of Hello Venus, now in Uni.T) is definitely trained as a classical singer. I'm sure there are many more in kpop who are wasted there bc they are only one of many other kpop singers. To be honest I was surprised by Luna here. I know she is a very good singer but that she is so good with a classical song... wow!

Thank you for this reaction! I really recommend the duet festival stages of Kim Yoon ah x char bohoon, yuk Jung wan, and an sinae. Although I rarely listened to singers outside of K-pop, their performances blew me away and they have become my favorite sunbae vocalists. Please check out their stages and see if they are reaction worthy!

YEs im here for sunyoung and jinyoung getting all this praise, they deserve it! sunyoung has had such a tremendous growth as a vocalist ever since she debuted in f(x) and she's one of the best in kpop right now which makes me so happy because she loves music and singing :') she's always doing musicals and it's so amazing to hear her! so much talent! and i appreciate jinyoung for "toning down" for this since it might have been hard for her
