My favorite line ever filmed. Notice how he looks at the sewer prepping to tre flip over it before he does the switch back heel as opposed to before the tre flip to make it appear that he never looked at the sewer. Fucking genius.
Ken Higa G. It's just the lack of hesitation. You don't see that much in videos. The board is just part of him, swirling under him, magnetized back to his feet. It's like for that line anything was possible. Making technical not look...technical! At speed, no prep, smooth, effortless. Poetry man.
I feel it man, I'm 33 now watching this, remembering when I was 17 and all me & my buds would do is skate all day, hang out & watch these dope ass videos, back when life was simple eh brother!? 🙌🤣
Having grown up in Mass, having skated Boston at some of these spots and witnessing PJ, Ryan and Jereme in person is something I'm happy to say I've witnessed. I remember when this video came out and being depressed that I'd never be that good so I went back to school, now I work on the heart surgery team at Boston Medical and every day I walk by that bank at 3:03 and every day I think of this part. Thanks for guys for adding to my, "Wonderful, Horrible Life"
Same, i skated since 85 to about 2008 and had to quit because bad knees and I was never quite good enough to get on any decent sponsors aside from local shops/parks. I became a professional and even now 10 years after I quit skating I still walk by spots and think about what tricks were done there. I'll probably be 80 years old one day still thinking about it.
@@thedevilsadvocate5210 You used to be able to skate the bank that PJ tailslid for a while while dodging herion addicts from the Meth clinic entrance. Skating The Volcano would get you kicked out pretty fast but there was a brick hip that you could ride for a while as it was far from Security.
That final push is my favorite ender of all time. Just the style and simplicity of it and the curiosity of what PJ is gonna do next. He knew he destroyed skateboarding forever with that last push.
This part was earth shattering to me when it came out. A day later and everyone is listening to pulp and doing shifty flip variations. Still one of the sickest game changing parts of all time.
Man i used to watch this on dvd with my best friend 19 years ago. he passed away in october 2021.. this was one of our favourite skate dvds.. i miss him so much..
Still watching this in 2024. First watched this in 2003….downloaded the video off of Limewire. Top 3 video parts all time. PJ was and still is a huge inspiration…legend status.
i remember when this part came out. Skateboarding was heavy into the "hammers" era. Entire video parts consisting of handrails and stairs (not that there's anything wrong with that) but when this part came out it was not only a breath of fresh air, but it totally revitalized the way people thought about "tech" skateboarding. I remember my mind being absolutely blown with some of the lines in this part and that bs 5-0 kickflip bs 5-0....first time i ever saw anything like that and it totally changed the way I looked at skateboarding. Thanks PJ!
But it's not just that he was able to do 5-0 flip 5-0, it's mostly the way that he was able to do it so naturally (WITHOUT touching the tail), at a time it was an NBD.
Alexis is cool and all, but rayssa Leal is the greatest female skater there has ever been. This is a 100% fact. I promise you that she will be the only female to skate on a pro mens level very soon! She's only 13 and just won back to back at SLS gold! She is so insane and she's only 13! I'm telling yall, if y'all ain't seen her you GOTTA look her up. I'm not gonna lie, I usually somewhat scoff at female skaters level in parts and in comps, but there legit is not one bad thing I can say about Rayssa. She's that sick and keep in mind she's only 13! She's got 30 more years if skating and I shudder to think what she'll be doing in just 5 or ten years. I'm serious, she's insane and in an entire new level than we've ever seen from girl skaters. She's THAT sick.
Pretty much every video part ever made since 2001 has been trying to replicate this one. Can't blame them. Utter perfection. A signed PJ Ladd board is one of my prized possessions.
simply the best part ever. And that's because it's totally natural and effortless. Not like todays parts. It shows just how the way PJ skated every single day, with or without a fucking camera. Not like hitting up spots for 15 minutes, "getting shit done" and then leaving. Most of today's parts have no dynamics at all, and they don't fit with the music. Here the song and skating fitted each other perfectly.
i see you under every fucking video im watching and youre only complaining. is it so hard to watch a video and not write a comment about how bad todays videos are and how good this skater is and blablabla why dont you just watch a video and think this shit for yourself because when im scrolling through the comments i dont want to see the same whining bitch under every video i see.
i wasn't complaining, I was praising it. Yeah you see me under every fucking video, cause my comments are usually top comments. representin what most of the people think, but can't put the in words as brilliantly as I do, consistently. peace bruh!
My question is where did he go? I believe he saw the scientology pedophiles in Hollywood that surround skateboarding and wanted no part in it. He will forever have my respect because he had integrity when alot didn't.
My favorite part of all time. I grew up watching this vhs, nowadays it's still one of the best parts ever. I've skated a lot of eS Accels in early 2000's, when I was a teenager, and i'm glad that it happened to me. now i'm 25 and this part reminds me of good old days...) thanks PJ !
I used to watch this when I skated as a teen. It reappeared on my recommended, and 2 days later, I bought a new board, and I will always love this video❤
PJ was so fucking hungry here. He wanted it so bad and you could see it in every trick he did. Even the way he pushed. He's in my top 5 still easily but I wish he still skated like this. Also the kickflip front tail 270 at 2:13 to me is the most styleish trick I've ever seen done, to this day.
@@chrism3144 yeah wtf you smoking bro he had good parts on flip sorry but, p.j ladd won the battle of the berrics like 4 ot 6 times. I'm pretty sure salabanzi has not.
PJ gives acknowledgment to his tre flips abilities by watching the “urban legend “ Mike Graham. A true legend of Boston skating. Get familiar. He was a chief
Should have stayed as his signature and it would have been nice to see some nollie HEEL hammers ;) - I’m sad to not see him doing all this stuff in the latest Tricolor part, especially the big-spins..
Its bonkers how well this part has held up. Dude was in the Matrix filming this. Still cant think of another part that was that far ahead of its time. I still have this on that blue VHS tape, couldnt tell you how many times I rewound his part
When I first saw this video in 2003 I was literally speechless for a few hours. I couldn't believe that a skater I had never heard of could captivate me so badly. I then watched it at least once everyday for the rest of that year.
Basically Penny but faster, more tech and more youthful, less floaty but it's what I thought when it came out...but without Penny this part wouldn't exist.
2021 is a wrap and Suciu is SOTY. And this part STILL blows me away😳 I don't know how many times I've watched this over the years, but when YT recommended it again it was like seeing an old friend.
+Drake Knight-Graves You and me & All 90's skaters.......-----I head Danny Say " He & Collin only have "" so much GNAR skating left before they become average joes that he's sitting on it..."""" But said N O T H I N G about PJ.........Rumor has it that Felipe ganked too much Ledge. -I suspect PJ has his own titled video...HE IS THAT POPULAR STILL...
You pretty much summed it up lol PJ wasted his prime years chilling, he shoulda been throwin down legendary parts from 2004-12 his days are numbered. The new age skaters and felipe swamp donked his ledge game. r.i.p pj, you had it but you turned into a slow moving slug in the industry.
Welp, he just dropped another video part. (New Balance)....it's pretty tight and slam full of very tech skating...although I've gotta say, it's kinda disappointing. There isn't anything ground breaking in it. His new video part is basically a mix of Ronnie Creager and Peter Smoliks video parts from 12-18 years ago. But like you said, he's past his prime. It's still very good but I guess I shouldn't expect anything really ground breaking from a 34 year old man.
Had this video in highschool use my last money copped it from CCS they need to bring back the osiris, etnies, and es fat shoes these flats anit crap.. Im 38 lol sk8 then die
The most OG and steezy fucking style ever man, his nollie flip 360s, are the cleanest I've ever seen.(2:47) plus the way he tweaks his nollie heel catch is dope
I had seen PJ in a few 411vms before this ever came out, when he rode for Element and just from a few clips I thought he was incredible but never really gave him much thought until Thrasher reviewed a video from a shop called collesuem out of Boston...and it was something along the lines of...do you like crazy tech skating? ledges? Then this video is for you...blah blah blah...I figured, what the hell are the chances that my local shop would have it? Well 1 in 1 cause they had one copy and the dude behind the counter said, "it's the best skate video of all time, that features a guy I never heard of who is sure to become a legend, you need this video. It will change your life"....and he was right. I passed this video around to a few friends and they instantly became life long Pj Ladd fans.
This was absolutely mind blowing when it came out. The entire video was. I cant think of many videos that had as much of an impact on skateboarding as this did. PJ is so fun to watch in this part, sadly his later footage just wasnt the same. It felt like he stopped having as much fun on a board.
This video part if released today would still be as amazing as it was when it came out. P.J. Ladd is seriously one of the best to ever do it. I have yet to see anyone today put anything out like the lines that he did. Such an amazing part. And one of the reasons that I think that PJ should win SOTY this year. Based off a part he put out almost 20 years ago.
Still my favourite part ever, you have to give so much credit to the editor... It's quite possibly the best song matchup in skateboarding existence. If you really focus on the way the part builds with the song...it's just genius.
I remember the year this Coliseum video came out I had a broken arm and I was going crazy not being able to skate. Bought this video at my local shop and watched it a million times. Ryan Gallant's part is worth a watch, hardflip master.
What makes this part great IMHO is because not like today video parts, it is not overly edited with unnecessary BS such as multiple cam angles, throwing boards, breaking boards, slow mo, unnecessary face shots, gripping a damn new board before the start, has to be HD, etc. This was just about SKATEBOARDING with far less rules than today.(For all you people who don't think there are underground rules, go watch marc johnsons free lunch he will explain it) Videos nowadays are always filmed at the same generic cliche perfect skate spots that are in every single other vid. You could tell this was more of just filming skateboarding rather than filming for a company part. Company parts today probably would have just cut out a lot of the flat ground tricks he does in the lines such as the last two in his last line. This along with cody mcentire love it or leave it best parts. Rant over
his consistency is just mind blowing. i think ive said that 100000000000 times already and if you stack this up to a lot of parts that have come out since this video, this video still reigns supreme when it comes to technicality, finesse, STYLE!!! the best style ever. i dare someone to argue about that. this video has everything you could ever want in a skateboarding video, there will never be anything like it again.
Every now and then when I want to watch a part that will blow my mind in 20 years time, I watch this. The song is an amazing choice to match the part. Ty thrasher for the 720p.
There are only two videos I ever kept my finger on the rewind button for...round one, Rodney Mullen Vs Daewon Song and Pj Ladds wonderful horrible life. Top 5, yes you read right, top 5 greatest video parts of all time.
This part is so legendary that calling it legendary is too modest. It is pointless to try and compare PJ at any other point in his life to his achievements in this part. He did all he needed to do on a skateboard in this part, and anything else is just desserts. I'm grateful to have been part of that generation and grown up with parts such as this as my inspiration.
Is it just me or his style just so much better in this video. The older he got the more basic style looks, don’t get me wrong he’s still insane but his style is so much more raw here.
to this day, might be the best part of all time. unbelievable man. the music, the editing, the insane level of tech for the time. really one of the all time great video parts.
It’s 2019 and skateboarding is at the pinnacle of progression....but yet somehow this 20 year old part is still better than everything that’s being put out right now
I’m 34 now and haven’t skated in about 10 years. This is still hands down the greatest video part ever recorded, used to watch it every morning before going skating. Personally I think skating isn’t the same anymore with it in the Olympics and all that. This to me is true skateboarding. Was a great time to be alive
Been watching this vids countless times and never get bored. The tricks he made is ahead of multiverse time. I've never see anyone frontside heel 360 down the stairs. Insane!
