Hmm. I find it interesting that in modaozushi, the titular character is called the founder of demonic cultivation (魔道), but he describes himself as practicing ghostly cultivation (修鬼道) which is a lot more accurate to his situation (he likes justice and protecting lives and not 魔 stuff). It’s interesting that he chose to cultivate what you said was the least powerful of the four? I think it’s difficult to translate and explain the distinction between 魔道(demonic or evil?) ,鬼道(ghost?),正道(orthodox or righteous or proper?),外道(unorthodox) and 邪魔外道(evil and unorthodox?). Another tricky concept that becomes awkward in translation is the distinction between the different chi’s or different energies mentioned in modaozushi, namely yang (阳气),yin(阴气),resentful (怨气) since yin energy is not inherently bad or evil. Oh, also the different connotations of ghost in English and in Chinese is tricky, since Chinese ghosts can be pretty solid corpses whereas solid walking dead in English are usually called zombies(dubiously dead and mindless consumers of any human brains), which isn’t the best description for whatever resentful ghosts show up in modaozushi or word of honor. Also not sure when to translate wandering spirit vs ghost vs specter or whatever. Could you make some videos on these subjects? It would be better researched and more coherent than my speculative ramblings and I would appreciate it.

If someone reincarnates into a pot, would they 'die' or would their spirit be released if it breaks? If it does then would they reincarnate into another pot, since they can't really change their karma by doing anything, or would living out the life of a pot be considered payment for their bad karma, giving them a chance to reincarnate into a living thing again? This is really interesting and confusing.
@TytheCanasian
@TytheCanasian 3 года назад
They would be released once the pot breaks. And just sitting there for a whole lifetime is a type of suffering, so yeah, he might reincarnate into something more "lively"

My theory is that Hua Cheng has cultivated to a point where he has enough power to manifest a physical body. Which sorta connects to my theory about the Four Calamities being "Mo" or demons rather than ghosts

Great vid, Ty! I love the way you explain things, your vids are really easy to follow! I'm new to C-dramas and manhuas so I'm slowly learning more and more about Chinese Culture and I love it! I have a little question regarding gods and godhood in TGCF - is it based on something in particular? like, Xie Lian first ascended as a martial god but the 3rd time he ascended he was a scrap-collecting god so.. does that mean that he was really good at scrap-collecting xD? I'd love to know your thoughts on this if possible ^^
@TytheCanasian

Yeah... probably XD. In TGCF universe the gods were known for what they did as a human so I guess XL was really good at collecting stuff lol

@@alvisarker8621 not by title at least. He's still really skilled with the sword and fighting overall, but his 3rd ascension isn't connected to that. For example, during the reverend of empty words arc, Lin Weng asks if there are any martial gods available who can help rescue some people and Xie Lian laments that no one seems to remember he used to be one lol
