Hi! I'm Maddie - a first-year kindergarten teacher (I'm going to keep claiming the title of being a first-year teacher through the end of the summer, haha!) 😂

This summer as I began to take a look at the titles in my classroom library with a critical eye, I realized my need to do better. As Lucille Clifton said, “the literature of America should reflect the children of America.” As teachers, WE are responsible for the texts we place in front of our students. So, I ordered books from Scholastic, FirstBook Marketplace and Thriftbooks. I'm excited about the titles I got, so I wanted to share them with you! 😊

Ahhhh! First books sounds amazing! I'll definitely have to look into it :) I just ordered a bunch from Thrift Books so we'll see how those come out- fingers crossed! Loved this and you as always 🤗

I definitely agree with you on the thrift books quality. I ordered from them and book outlet at the same time and liked book outlet a LOT better. I will definitely have to look at first books!

I’m switching from special education to 1st grade this year and have been shopping Goodwill for many of my classroom books until I can get a feel for what I really need. I’ve been able to get a LOT of diverse texts-many of the ones you featured on here too!-so if others are looking for tips and can’t afford the options you mention don’t forget about thrift stores. Some in my area actually give books to teachers and only request a donation too. It’s ok if the books aren’t in perfect shape when you start out, you can replace as you go :)

What a great selection of books. Lots of titles that I haven’t seen before. (Also, a funny selection of bloopers - filming RU-vid videos clearly isn’t as easy as it seems from the final “product” that viewers watch. Thanks for sharing and having s great sense of humor. 😜)

Fabulous book haul Maddie! So many great titles that I haven't heard of before. I especially loved the "Ready to Read" Living In___ Series! What perfect books to learn about other children's perspectives and at an early reader level!! Can't wait to pick these up for my first graders! 😊 Also wow these blooper! So accurate when filming hahah love it! 😂

Thank you for watching! I know - I hadn't ever seen that series before finding them on Scholastic's website. I am really excited to add them to my library! I also just received my first book order for the first time this week and loved it so much I already placed another order lol. Hmm I have always had good luck with thrift books , sad to hear it didn’t go so well for you.

First I'm an infant teacher in corporate daycare. Second I love going to goodwill and looking around and the goodwills I go to are close to expensive neighborhoods. I have gotten a lot of nice books for my infant room and at the goodwills I go to kids books are 50 cents. If people are on a tight budget it's a slow process but you can find gentle used books for a great price. Understand though that it's hit or miss. Sometimes it's packed full of great books and other times it empty. If your a college student wanting to grow your library while your in school and on a tight budget it's a good option.

I'm sure it will be!! There were only a few books I was really unhappy with. 95% were just fine! They just weren't as close to new-looking as I expected them to be 😂

my mom started a book thing with about 15 others and they are focusing on diverse books I see some titles that they are getting as well

I personally order from book outlet.com and have had good luck with them. I look forward to trying firstbooks to build a more diverse library. Can you make a video on how you are going to desk with the library situation with COVID. Thank you 😊

I ordered from ThriftBooks once and was disappointed with the quality. I emailed them and they gave me a refund. I also order from Betterworldbooks.com and BookOutlet. Scholastic is also my favorite! Those points are great.
