Miss May! You are so amazing! Your light shines so bright! Literally you are an angel on earth. Please don't ever change. Your videos have really reminded me why I became a teacher, and after a really hard year, have given me a positive outlook and a fresh mindset for school year 2017/2018. I literally could be your little teacher sister our styles are so similar lol. Life was tough last year, but I know God let me run across your videos for a reason! Thanks a million
Hi sweetness there are pastors who are pastors over other pastors they have a national leadership platform I always say this about you you are a teacher's teacher you have a national platform and it comes naturally
You are precious! Soo gifted and talented at what you do...teaching: both the children and US! want to be i n your classroom! Thanks for making God first in your life so that you are able to share HIS love! I appreciate you!!!!
You make me want to be a teacher and i have never considered it before. My children have a teacher who is always yelling, never smiles even when she is talking to us parents. She looks so stressed all the time, i went on an excursion with them and she was just so frantic i just didnt want to be there. Seriously i wish there was more like you hun
i just had an epiphany, not even halfway thru the video. this is a really great life lesson and you know it works both ways, your bucket can be filled with negativity too those negative fillers weigh heavyyyyyy.... i think i just realized a way to introduce this to my kids, when i get kids, this is pretty cool, i'm glad you didn't quit teaching!
I think the bucket filling story is perfect for younger kids to practice kindness and gratitude.(and reinforcing good manners) It helps visualizing it for them! I think I will use it in my classroom! Thank you for the great content.
Yes, it will get better! It's always rough in the beginning, but once that sail starts sailing in the right direction the beginning is a blur. ((HUGS))
Thanks for filling my bucket, Miss May! Your videos are very practical, encouraging, and the positive shot in the arm we all need at times. I especially loved the one about not overthinking our job... I am a 17 year veteran, but recently switched from teaching PhDs to teaching Kindergarten 😂. Quite a transition, especially as I work in China. Our Lord is really using your channel to bolster me, and certainly many others. Keep it up! It is not in vain-you’re making an impact 😘. Blessings from the other side of the world 🌎
thank you Ms. May all the way from Jamaica you surely are filling my bucket , this is very lovely this is a lovely way to teach our kids to show love to each other
Starting my journey in the teaching world this year after leaving corporate America.. Thank you for this!! Will be implementing the positivity of your videos.. Ready for this year already! 💖💖
Miss May! Wow! I just want you to know that I have learned so much - as a non-teacher - since last night (when I first subscribed) about classroom management and your heart for kids! Know my hands are together for you and yours during this awful, heart-breaking time in Houston. Thanks and hugs to you for all that you do & to JC for creating you as you are! Because He Lives! Jo-Jo in MN
+Slow-and-Steady Creation Korner THANK YOU SOOOOOOO much for this very sweet comment. Jesus Christ is amazing and I'm so thankful he created me to be this human being. Lots of love and ((hugs))
I remember doing this and reading the bucket books in kindergarten. It’s a lesson that has stuck with me throughout my years in school :) I really appreciate your enthusiasm and passion in teaching, it’s infectious, and I’m sure the kids you teach will remember that. So thank you for being an awesome person
I really am glad you explained this before the beginning of the school year! I heard you talk about this last year and am implementing it this year. I'm excited and love your enthusiasm as you explain things. Much love sis!
You're a fresh face i've seen. I naturally feel energetic and positive when i come across you. :* :D thank you for inspiring me. I wish we worked together in a school.
You are so inspiring! I was planning to use the Bucket Filler book already, but seeing and hearing you model what you do is just great! I want to include how you do things in how I do things. Thank you so much!
I can't wait to go back to work! I'm teaching 3rd grade this year. I've watched some of your videos and I'm so happy I found your channel!! We share a passion for teaching and implementing social emotional learning into the classroom. It's super important for all students. ❤❤
+Kimberly Amrita I'm so glad you have found my channel. You're so right, these kids need it all. They deserve it. Thank you for your support. I LOVE teaching 3rd grade many years ago. Enjoy! (( HUGS ))
Thank you! I love your blog! I read the Bucket Filling book in my kindergarten each year, but will elaborate this year! Thank you for the great ideas! God Bless you!!
I absolutely love you! Some of your videos actually brought me to tears. Can I just ask, is there a video about your peanut butter and jelly pairs? I am interested to know how you sorted them ^^ *hugs*
Loved your video. Loved your positivity and enthusiasm!! I have been using this language and reading these books the past 3 years but watching your video helped me to think of additional activities that I can integrate.
So thankful to find your channel, well rather I think God brought it to me. The Management video was on my feed. I'm on my third round of applying for teaching school and your videos have inspired me to not give up! and I am learning so much. Currently, I am an assistant in a school and so I am learning more and more. I don't see it as a consequence that I found you because you're a believer and that makes it more special. I love knowing there are teachers out there like you who use positivity and tough love cradled with care.
Wow! I am crazy about your videos! I’ve been searching for some classroom management that I can relate to and your philosophies are right down my alley. I’m a fan 🥰
Hi Miss May! I think you're awesome! I just jumped from Pk to 2nd so I'm searching for all the help I can get! I'm getting great advice and ideas from your videos. Thanks so much for sharing! Love your positive attitude!
I am moving to 2nd grade this year and had the honor of observing a teacher that made me so happy to be in her room. You could feel the love and her first graders are amazingly independent. I asked her for advice and she told me about your videos! I’m looking so forward to implementing so many of the ideas I have found on your channel next year with my new classes!! I absolutely love this bucket filler idea. I was wondering if you remembered where you got your buckets from?
Oh my gosh! I just read this book to my little boy last night for the first time. It’s so good! Weird that your video popped up in my recommended the very next day!
Bucket filling is awesome! I do it with my grade 1s too. They get it and they use the language too when they interact with one another. I have not read Fill a Bucket but I have introduced the concept with the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today? That's a great one too and perfect for primary grades. 😀
Thank you Miss May! I find your positivity really inspiring. I'd not heard about bucket filling over here in the uk but I have now ordered the book to read with my new class when they start in September. (I've also just received my personalised planner too 😊)
This is so sweet! However I honestly think my students will look at me crazy of I explained it like that: an invisible bucket on our heads. I think I want to try it and put SEL at the forefront: we all have feelings/ emotions and we can all help each other to feel better. It feels good when we do something good for someone else.
Ms, May, Shucks, I want to be in your classrroom!!!😂 Have a spectacular year!! I know the kids in your class will!! #lovemyjob #24yearsgoingstrong #keepgoingmsmay
Hello! I just love this bucket filling system presentation. I had 4 different classes this past school year. I had about 92 students in all. I teach third graders. I figured if I were to use this system, posting little cups or buckets would probably not be too practical. What would you suggest as an alternative method or similar method to the bucket filling that would be practical to use with 60+ students on a daily basis?
Katrina McGregor I’m in the same boat, and I’ve been trying to figure that out for a while now, so I haven’t committed. I REALLY want to try; I’m just struggling to adapt it to my room.
I know it's been a few years, but for anyone who sees this, you can possibly just do one comment box and call it a shout-out box. That way it's one thing and not 92 buckets. Students can then fill out the slip and place it in your comment box. You can then pull a few out to read them out to the classroom and then also separate them out and give them to your students on a daily or weekly basis for them to read. This also helps you pick out students who do not get recognized a lot and you could do your own little notes to them anonymously.
Hi Miss. May! Thank you for "filling my bucket" today! I teacher 5th graders in FL. What can I do about students that write negative statements anonymously?
+Karin Goodine Hi sunshine!!! I've never had this happen before. I would maybe take their bucket filling privileges away for a day. Remove their bucket or whatever you decide to have their slips stored in. Thank you for watching. (( HUGS ))
can we see this topic or approach in action with ur kiddos during class time. pls. thanks for inspiring me always. love and happy teaching and happy school start time. husgs from ARGENTINA. miriam
Do you have actual buckets on the wall for each of them? Do you let them take the bucket flip slips home with them or do you toss them at the end of the week? Thanks for all the tips! ❤
What if you have to use a clip chart, the red yellow and green chart? I want to do bucket fillers, but also want to use a super improver wall too. How to do all of them
+A happy teacher - True story thank you! I try and check their buckets throughout the day. If I notice someone's bucket isn't filled I put everyone with a partner and they have to fill that persons bucket. Honestly they do very well at filling others buckets. (( HUGS))
How can I do bucket filling as well as the super improver wall together? I was thinking of children having individual goals after the first month of school is done. I was thinking the first month of school is class goals to work on but want to use bucket filling too. I am starting my first year of teaching kindergarten this August
Hi, Mrs. May, wanted to know where the kids keep their letters from each other in the bucket filler activity if you do this activity as part of their daily things to do?
One FAB Teacher ,Thank you very much, for responding, I am so grateful of being able to see your videos and having the opportunity of being a better teacher every day do to those strategies you model to us.
I am wondering if any of your students have ever encountered someone bucket dipping, who has no idea what bucket dipping or bucket filling is. There are a lot of schools out there with little to no bulling prevention methods, also not every teacher that should in a school, puts enough effort in to bulling prevention.
I have a question. You are doing first grade, I am doing pre k. So I was thinking that unstead of slips of paper I coukd use gold marbles or something. When they are kind they are showing a golden heart so they get a marble. But if they are a dipper and don't have anything he, how would I take one out? Or maybe a better idea as a visual, black rocks for not nice and gold ones for nice and see if we get more gold at the end if the day. Bonus, we could lay out the rocks in a line and count them together and the most gets an "I was a bucket filler today" note sent home. What do you think?
