This helped a lot because I just started subbing and I had some teachers who have not left lesson plans, seating charts or any notes about which students I may to focus on or be more aware of any behavioral issues or even medical issues.
One person at a time. Write the time and kids name down. After 15 minutes, call office and have them page the student back to the classroom. At that point, make an announcement such as “everyone, please recognize that when you leave to use the restroom, there will be other people who may also need to urgently go as well. Please be respectful of your classmates and return to class as soon as possible”

So what do you do when it is the entire class literally that refuses to put their phone away? So when im subbing high school, I will have six classes with 25 kids in each. So that is 150 kids that refuse to put their phone away, refuse to do any work. They spend the entire period playing with the phone.
I just got hired a a school based sub , I’ve subbed in past before Covid for this school so I’m familiar. One good thing is the state of Va banned cell phones in school woohoo ! This is new ! It’s great but the kids are addicted so they may be more crazy because their Jonesing
