Hello friends! I just wanted to say thank you so much for following along on my journey! If you would like to see more of day to day updates and behind the scenes, you can follow me on Instagram at @haileykatelynn. Can’t wait for setup day 2! ❤️ love you all!
Hi, I just got promoted to Leading the Foreign teachers curriculum and Activity planning in a Foreign Language school here in China .. would like to KEEP in contact with you to share ideas but mostly to learn from you and see how things are done differently
lmao thats one of the smallest classrooms ive seen- eek idk about u americans but all my classrooms were like twice that size- i mean to be fair we've had around 33 students.
Hi, I love watching your videos I'm 8 years old. And I'm dying to be a teacher, watching your videos make me feel exited💕 thank you for making this video😚
Was so looking forward to this! This is my 5th year teaching yet I find myself super excited and inspired by your dedication and positivity! You are doing a fab job, can’t wait to see your channel grow!
One great option for the library is using cushions for outdoor chairs for pillows. They're typically really long and water resistant and pretty comfy. Also! They should be on sale most places now!
Yes, the first day is definitely overwhelming! Always sooo much to do and not knowing ever where to start. I love that wall bookshelf type thing! Such a cute idea! Great start!! My kiddo’s first day is tomorrow, so I have just been in full panic mode getting everything ready!
A general rule of thumb for your library is that kiddos who are reading on levels A-H (I think - don't quote me), which is going to be ALL of your kindergartners, should have 10-12 books in their book bins at all times. They also need to be able to switch them out weekly. And just take your setup one day at a time! It's a definite process, and the mess is always going to get worse before it gets better!
Your room looks great! For my K class I prefer to keep the library super simple. I only pull out about 20 books at a time and switch them out every few weeks based on what we are studying. I love watching you set up! Have a great year!
Seeing you excited for making the room your own makes me want my last year of school to go by quicker so I can have a classroom of my own! Have fun making it feel like home!
Aww... that was great :) I know you're excited to finally be in your classroom & that library can seem overwhelming! I agree that once you get the extra book bins & the labels printed for them & start to put them out, you'll feel sooo much better! Who knew organizing a library could take so much out of a person LOL ... Yay! :)
One thing my ct did, was she didn’t put all her books in her library. Because kids get bored, and get excited with the new books. She has them separated by unit, and releases/switches them out monthly by themes. This is kinda what I want to do. But maybe add new ones each week.
A great start! I’m returning to teaching after being a stay at home mom. I got in my room 2 days in June and don’t have access until August 23rd! I’m feeling stressed. Enjoy watching your videos.
Hi! Well done on day 1! It can be so overwhelming knowing where to begin and you did a great job sorting all those books! I really like the rainbow pencils border with the white background. Looking forward to day 2!
I can relate I came into my classroom day one and started working but I had to arrange desk along with getting rid of the old teacher student it can be overwhelming for sure!!
Obsessed with how open and spacious your room is! I LOVE it! Just finished my classroom set videos, its so rewarding to look back on how much progress is made!
I love your videos! By the way im 13 and want to be a teacher. I've been binge watching decorating videos for kindergarten because that's the area I want to get a job in.
The very first time that you set up your classroom can be overwhelming at times. Set a goal to work first on the areas that are easiest for you. If you have the chance, perhaps you could give away the older books to students. Tell them that they are legacy books that have been cherished my many other students, and they have the chance to carry on such a legacy. Tell them to hold on to them close to their hearts. When they are adults, they can pass them on to their children, or if they become teachers, then they can pass them along to their own students.
Just something to think about, you might want to put you word wall more at kid eye level so your kiddos can see it and refer to it easily! Or use a mobile word wall.
Kindergartners will read anything! The way I handle the stressful library is by doubling up categories and authors if I don’t have enough to fill up one bin. Then, with all those random books that don’t have a “home,” you can make one bin for those random fiction books and one bin for the random non fiction books! I wouldn’t get rid of ANYTHING at this point. The only books I would keep out of your library are chapter books. BUT I also wouldn’t get rid of those. I made that mistake and then was moved from kinder to 2nd grade and had no chapter books and ended up spending way too much money purchasing more.
There can be too many books. I experienced that this year while transferring from general education to special education. I gave three totes to the teacher that took over my general ed room.
I suggest you sort the books into groups. Make yourself a place for the books you want to keep 'safe' to read aloud to the children. Kindergarteners just can't read many of those until later in the year. Check on amazon for Margaret Hillert series, Just Beginning To Read. Very early readers. Sort them out by maybe seasonal or topic for your read alouds. I am in favor of having as many books as you want. Even twenty year old stories would be fun to listen to. Enjoy your huge classroom. 😍
I am so glad that I've found your channel, your enthusiasm is amazing! I would love to teach year 6 (ages 10/11). I'm not sure what that would be in America, as I'm from Wales.
Kon Mari your books girl! I don’t think need all those books. It’s hard for our teacher hearts to feel like we are donating so many books... “will one of those books in this donate pile be THE book to engage a student in reading?” Probably not. It might be hard for students to find engaging books in my library if it’s hard for them to find relevant and interesting books amongst all the books I have!
OMG can I just say, I'm an education major (high school) but you and I look super similar and it stressed me out lol. Blonde Hair, Green eyes, and a nose piercing. Crazy lol
I have spent years on organizing my library and it's still not done. I don't think it ever will be! For the books I wasn't sure what to do with, I did books by author, which is fine because that is really how a library is organized anyway. I have about 2 full shelves of author books and about 4 shelves of sorted and themed books and nonfiction subjects. Too many books? Maybe, but I don't think you can ever have too many books!
Hello! Congrats on finishing your first year teaching! I am going to start my first year this September :) I was wondering how you were able to gather so many books? I feel like I'm struggling to find good deals on quality literature!
Hi! The vast majority of my books came from thrift stores! Value village is my favorite because if you donate, they will give you a 20% off coupon and their books are buy 4, get 1 free!
haileykatelynn I actually saw one of your IG stories after watching this video haha! I went to one near me and it was amazing! I got soooo many books! Thanks for the recommendation 😄
I’m a sophomore in high school and I have been weighing my options with careers. Teaching is definitely on my list, but I worry about the pay. Is it hard finding somewhere to live as a teacher, or is the pay enough to get a home?? I’m also going to enroll in art school first, so that could be a side job?
My official first day is this Thursday. They haven't completed cleaning our floors yet and am not allowed in until they are done! Students first day is next Wednesday the 14th...Yikes I am Jealous of all of you already in classrooms!!!
