Get your rug and be happy girl! You spend your WHOLE day in that classroom.

If you flip your tables (like an arrow pointing towards the smart board everyone would be facing forward but you would keep your nice flow. With kinder you may want them facing you more than you realize so that they can see you modeling how to complete an activity on the smart board. Love the kidney table in the window!

Keep in mind that having dramatic play (a louder center) right next to your library (a quiet center) might be a little problematic. Nothing major but chances are your readers will watch the kids playing or just join right along in 😂. Speaking from experience. I absolutely love watching you! I broke down and bought a 9x12 plain colored lakeshore rug last year because I couldn’t deal with the overstimulating primary colored school purchased rugs anymore! I just got the plain light blue one and it seriously goes with EVERY theme! Last year I did candyland, and this year I’m doing tropical!!! Get the rug! It’s the heart of your classroom! Best investment ever!

I have a smaller kindergarten classroom, so I store all of my centers in bins and the kids carry them to the student tables and each table is a different center. It worked out pretty well for me last year!

I love that your state encourages dramatic play because where I teach we have so many standards to cover in Kindergarten that there is really no way to incorporate it. I stored my big book cart next to my desk for easy access and extra desk space. I also wanted to buy a rug that matched my theme, but ultimately decided it wasn’t worth it and considering how dirty mine stayed during the year I’m glad I didn’t.

The back of the filing cabinet will also be great for magnet activities!

Fellow Kinder teacher here 🙂 for your “big book” storage shelf, if it’s similar to the one I have, you can flip it around and the top pulls up to serve as an easel so to speak, and possibly the other side allows you to write or display something on the bottom front. It might be useful if you utilize the carpet as a center area!

I had the big book display in the front of the classroom. With the books facing the whiteboard I lifted up the top and used that to display the big books and also used it for anchor charts when working on phonics. The back had a whiteboards so I used that to display our carpet expectations. We reviewed every single time we came to the rug, It was really useful. I love your videos, thank you!

I taught pre-K for a while and they loved centers. One thing to remember is to put noisy centers with noisy centers and quiet centers with quiet centers. Another center idea is a stem center or blocks center. Dramatic play will be their favorite center. I have done so much with that. I changed up the dramatic play center to match whatever we were learning about, a music studio, vet/pet shop/adoption center, house with kitchen. They especially love baby dolls and playing house, old cameras and phones are hit. You can find cheap things in thrift stores. They will have a blast with whatever you do. Have fun in Kindergarten. They are the cutest age. Can’t wait to see your room all set up.

You can get the little things to hold up the shelves at Home Depot or something of that nature! I needed a bunch of new ones a couple years ago and was able to find them there. Also, I'm so excited you're using Eureka Math again! I used your idea of teaching in small groups last year and will never go back, so hopefully I can steal some more of your ideas this year. :)

That rug is really functional. When the kids come in they truly need that boundary of space that looks different from others spaces. I have had to let go of some cuteness when it comes to decor since teaching kinder because functionality is key for success in kinder.

You can cover the shelf with the big books with curtains using fabric and a cafe rod or even Velcro. Keeps it less cluttered looking and still in reach.

If you don't like the current rug in your room, just go with sit spots that match your color theme. That's what I did when my carpet started looking old and I love it. The kids also sit better on the spots than they did on the carpet.

I like the little nooks in your room. The library will be so cozy. A reason to keep the alphabet rug: games. Especially if you’re working with a small group. They could sort objects to the letters, as they learn to spell they can hop around to each letter, I Spy, trace the letters for large body movement/handwriting. Plus if you change your theme you’d want to change the carpet again.

the big book table in the front you can attach a pink mini curtain to it so the clutter is covered but it is convenient

You could put another bookshelf behind the futon so that you have extra storage, the back of the futon is covered, and the futon faces the window. You could even put cushions on top of the shelf to make a little seating area if the shelf is short enough!

What about having the small square table as a quiet /calm corner. In K, emotions are big and sometimes they need to have the possibility to be by themselves to calm down. It can be your emotions table, you can have a quiet activity there like puzzles, play dough, etc...

The package from Walmart was probably sold through Amazon and fulfilled through Walmart. I've ordered things from Amazon before that have come from Sam's Club, which is owned by Walmart. Also, I would wait to replace that rug. At the beginning of the year, kindergartners have so much to learn that it is nice to make something easy for them, such as their carpet spot. They only have to remember that they sit on the letter B, for example. You should have enough squares for everyone, it seems. If you do decide to get rid of it, check with your administration first. Those letter rugs are so ridiculously expensive that I've been in schools where the principal will not allow us to remove them from the room.

You can get lapdesks from michaels and leave them at the writing space that they can use over there for writing…and utilize that smaller table in the dramatic play area

You should check into the kindergarten smorgasbord and how he does centers! Your room is pretty big so kids could spread out around the room on rhe floor for their centers.

Love the angled student tables! Do you have enough room between them to move the “backwards” chairs to the short ends of the tables? Not sure if that makes sense but that way nobody has their back to you if you’re going over directions/teaching at the front. My teammate does this and then has the community tables bins stored along the “backwards” edge of the table so everyone can get materials while facing forward.

To see the library from the kidney table, can you get one of those mirrors that shows you around a corner and place it on the opposite wall?

Hi! Fellow K teacher here. I pull students from their centers to my table. I do not make myself a center that way if Im out or something, it doesn’t mess with their “flow” or fall upon a sub. My para is a center. Just food for thought.

I have one of those big book organizers. The top on mine rises to make an easel. I use the easel to hold the big book as I read it. Yours may be different. I can't tell from the video.

As far as your writing center table not being big enough could you move the lowered table over there and use that one instead? Since there's going to be a bulletin board on the back of the cabinet and not up on the wall everything in that center could be lowered to the same level, just a thought

What if you put clipboards and flexible seating with that smaller table in the writing center? Then students could work on the table or use a clipboard and sit on a cushion or on the floor.

May be you can find like a cover for the futon a cute fabric , if ypu are going to use it.

And that closet… girl! 😍 I think the small table would be a great word work center and you can use the file cabinet for magnetic letters/words. The bigger table would be a great writing center. My kinders need lots of space for writing but could just use magnets and whiteboards for word work. I utilize the floor a lot too with cushions. P.S. The Walmart/Amazon thing has happened to me too! Except it was the opposite 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve never taught kinder but could they use the back of the file cabinet for magnet activities like word play or a math center? You wouldn’t need a table.
