I collected teacher stuff while I was in college and now I am going into my 4th year of teaching. I have donated and let other teachers take almost everything I purchased that I don't want or need. It makes me sick thinking about all the things I bought and have given away. When I was watching your videos from last year I related so much and listening to you talk about all the things you accumulated is even more relatable! I say give it to other teachers, donate it, whatever you need to do to unload some of the stuff you do not need. In the end, it is not worth the hassle of having stuff around you don't need. Good thing is, is that it sure makes us mindful with future purchases! I refuse to purchase 98% of things having to do with my classroom until I know for sure I need it!

Hi! I saw your video about the interview tips. I did my interview yesterday, and it helped me A LOT! I just showed the real me, and I prepared questions that showed I was interested about the school. Few hours later, the principal called me back, and offered me the position. So yes, next year I will start my first year teaching in a 5th grade classroom, but only ELAR/SLAR and Social Studies (I'm from Texas). I just subscribed to your channel because you will guide me so much.

Best of luck to you in fifth grade. You are going from third grade tattletales to fifth grade drama. You will appreciate the independence shown by fifth graders. Just be aware of some students who want to start acting like they are too big for their britches and want to act mouthy. That does not happen all of the time. Fifth graders need to know that they are at an age where they need to take charge of their learning.

I’m moving from third to fifth in a new district as well. I told my fiancé the same thing! I can’t even picture what a 5th grader looks like lol

Your new classroom is amazing! 5th graders are pretty awesome. Much more independent than 3rd graders. I think you should consider consolidating some of the art supplies and repurposing two of those drawers. You won’t have as much time for art as you think.

I cannot stand clutter! I will caution you though to really think about what you want to keep and discard. I use to teach first grade. When I switched grades, I gave everything away. 😳 I am currently teaching second grade and have recently repurchased a lot of things that I was certain I did not need just a few years ago. I would suggest storing anything you could find use for later. I fully understand not wanting clutter, but totes/boxes are cheaper than the alternative. Have a great year!
