You have so many great ''big' decorations in your room. We know that it is Harry Potter themed, but when your students walk in, they may not. I would maybe try a few smaller decorations, maybe words that Harry said to Voldemort "let's finish the way we started, together" or portraits of Hermione, Harry and Ron to cover some wall space. Over by you window, where the books are, I think you did a fantastic job making sure people knew it was Harry Potter themed, so I would just do that in a few other places around the room. I searched on RU-vid Harry Potter ideas and there are so many cheap and easy ideas that would for sure look great in you room. Also, Tina Bietler is doing a Potter themed room and she has Hedwig and maybe a small bird cage (so students can't took it) and it would look spectacular! Hope this helps.
You should totally put up the quote that dumbledoor said about light and happiness, but that might be what you were talking about. Ps love these videos!! Love your excitement and how dedicated you are to making your classroom spectacular! You make me excited for my classroom!!
how can i watch the replay? i see where to watch highlights but nothing with you in it, and i don't see an option for replay. i'm new to periscope and have no idea what i'm doing!
Another great vlog! My apologies if this idea was mentioned before, but the idea of placing some sort of crest or symbol on the center felt pieces would add to the look of the flag.
I teach 4th as well and have a beach theme in my room, but I read the HP series for the first time this summer and LOVED IT. I think you've inspired my next room theme when I am tired of being at the beach ;)
Do you still have some more of the stone wallpaper? I think you should put some on the section of wall behind the flags. I think that would tie the two sides of your classroom together really well. Loved this video by the way! XO i
Possible ideas for the wall behind the flags- 1) If you have any leftover stone wall paper you could glue that... although it would probably be a pain. 2) I'm not quite sure what, but something to do with brooms or Quidditch. If I think of something I'll leave another comment. 3) Wands with sparks or spells coming out of them? 4) Within the first few days of school take a group picture of each "house" in front of a background, like the Castle or inside the dining hall or something (from the movie) & hang it by each house flag.
Ok, you are awesome with your ideas! I wish you were my kids teacher! Maybe you need some creepy looking candles, goblets, weird chandeliers, house pictures, gold balls, etc. Maybe a dark wall made with dark paper? I don't know if any of these ideas help.
I would have enjoyed having a sofa at primary school but I would probably have been tempted to have naps on it. Bean bags would be nice and maybe foot rockers for any autistic or ADHD students
Maybe you can do a class stained glass type art project to hang on your laminate cupboards by your flags... or some sort of art like there was where the stairs to the houses are.
LOVE your Harry Potter room. Next year is a theme change year for me and I will be doing Harry Potter. I thought I'd point out that your mug is actually a girl and her name is Hedwig😂 I love you videos!!!
The flags look great! I have the same Ikea stools in red. Yes, a pain to put together, but so far they have made it through their second year. Just don't let the boys try to rock in them! What are you going to do with the hexagons on the cabinet door? Are they cork?
I'm not sure if it has been suggested already but how about starting off a class wallpaper tree/branch like the Black Family Tree . You could have yours already put up and the students could add their own pictures or photographs onto the branches?
Yes my husband and I did them over the summer. It is 'wallpaper' I found on Amazon. I show the whole process of setting up my room in the videos during August! Thanks for watching!
Maybe make put up some stone wall fadeless paper on the wall behind the flags. That way everything is uniformed and the flags will be able to pop out even more! What you think?
Along the top was in our original plans, but I only asked for permission on the back wall which already had some damage. I'm not sure I will ask at this point, but I do think it would look great.
Hi. I absolutely love your videos. I wish I had your energy. I've been teaching for almost 34 years and still love it but am finding myself very tired at the end of a full week. I am sure your kids are going to love you AND their classroom. I haven't noticed this mentioned before, but it seems to me that you don't look into the actual camera much and seem to be looking at the screen. It may just be my perspective of things, but I find it a little less personal - and you seem like a VERY "personable" person, so it messes with my head.
I was looking on eBay for pillow covers to match my classroom and I saw the CUTEST dobby one for less than $5, free shipping. Thought you should know if you were looking for more cute Harry Potter accents!
AHHH! I just checked their webpage! AWESOME! It doesn't list the size, have you seen them? My last ones were about 19" and were way too small. For $5....I'm thinking they are probably the small ones. If I didn't have my Periscope in an hour, I'd go right now!
Oh... You mentioned an AM class and PM class. How does that work? I'm in Western Australia and we just have the same class for the day in schools near me. Until high school of course. When your room is finished I can't wait to show three of my girls who are totally obsessed with Harry Potter. Of course that could be asking for trouble as they may start nagging me to do the same. You may need to come Down Under to help.
This year I will have a partner teacher and we will split subjects (I will have ELA English Language Arts) and she will teach Math, Science, and Social Studies. We will have a combine 48 students and 24 will be in each room. We will rotate once in the AM and once in the PM. Does that make sense? Oh my! Yes they will love a Harry Potter room! The work is worth it!
Your classroom is huge! What grade do you teach and how many students do you have? I'm starting as a teacher in september. I will teach 7th and 8th grade English. here in france classrooms are usually quite small althoughwe have 25/29 students. I hope I'll be able to decorate a little even if I'm sharing the room with other teachers. I would also really love to create a library or work stations (but I think it will be difficult). My school is only oppenning on august 22nd. So excited to see the room where I'll be spending the year!!!
Hi Mrs. Spackman!!! I love your channel and you have definitely gotten me excited for this school year!!! Just a question, are you ever on your Snapchat?
Another question that is kind of off topic. How do employers respond to your tattoo(s). I am currently in college and I am an ECE major with tattoos. Just curious if or what is the response to them when getting a job? Thanks so much in advance!
I know you are doing water bottles for your students on the first day, but maybe you could find pencils that look like wands to go with your Harry Potter theme!
I'm looking at creating a similar theme for my classroom. Our school creates ambience by using flameless candle light during writing sessions, and I am going to create some 'floating' candles as per this link: www.epbot.com/2014/12/harry-potter-inspired-floating.html. I am also looking at creating a sparkly starlight ceiling using black netting and christmas lights!
I love this idea so much! Someone mentioned it last week and I have been feverishly looking into a tasteful way to add them without going broke. My biggest concern has been the reviews on the battery life. So many reviews that I have found say that the batteries often don't last overnight (turned off, not left on)...That just won't work for me! I was thinking I would only put them up at special times, but if I have to replace batteries each time (2 AA each!) thats a no go. This is a fantastic idea though! Let me know if you find a way that works for you! Oh my, we are so on the same page! Are you putting the netting across the ceiling lights? I went to a school the other day that had fabric stripes going down the ceiling lights all different colors! It diffused the light really well and created a great environment! Your idea would be great during flashlight reading! That would take it to a whole other level! Please share if you do this! - I think I'm going to try the strips of black fabric on occasion and see how that goes. Thanks for sharing!
I will be gluing these inside paper towel/toilet paper rolls. zoxoro.com.au/Products/LED-Flameless-Tealight-Candles-9.html?gclid=CMfiyaKnvs4CFQcJvAodZ60Img I have started to make these look like real candles by adding hot glue gun "wax drops" down the side and painting it white. The candles I have used have been used during "Big Write" sessions (an hour a week) since the start of the Australian school year (February). All of them still work wonderfully and are actually a box that was used for most of last year, they're holding up really well! I will definitely share some pictures as I get these decorations up!
Also, did you consider printing and laminating Harry Potter "letters"✉️ to be a border on your tan bulletin board? I think that was a near part of Harry Potter and hadn't seen it incorporated into your room at all.
I will be presenting on *iTeachTVNetworks* channel, not my own. I will probably stop using Periscope all together at the end of the month and switch to Facebook Live our RU-vid Live....probably Facebook.
You should say the company name bc you had a bad experience... Other will know not to use them. It's like giving a review of something/ someone . People want to know about it.
