🎉 I also teach split grades in a Christian school. So I will share that I tried what you are planning as well with a joint “opener” activity and then the older grade does book work while the younger grades are being “taught” but the issue I found is the beginning of the lessons the older grades are not sure of what they are doing. This year I am going to try doing the same “opener” activity, then assign a “Y chart” activity based on topic the first day of a lesson to the older kids, teacher the younger ones, then assign the younger ones their independent work, and teach the older. The older ones then get independent work and the younger ones get an exit ticket. I’ll let you know how this works…but I am praying for much more understanding and a greater grasps on classroom management based on clear direction. Blessings to you on your new year!
Congratulations, I watched your videos from the previous year and felt so sad watching you express your frustration. I’m so happy that you are at a school that shares your believes and morals. I’m a teacher from the Turks and Caicos and love your videos and pray that God guide and protect you as well as your school family this new school year.
I hope you have an awesome 24-25 school year! I was in school many yrs ago i was in a split 1st and 2nd grade class and i will always remember it was hard to stay on task on my 1st grade work because I was always paying attention to what my teacher was teaching the 2nd graders.
I’m so happy for you I watched your other videos when you quit teaching you seem so much happier I wishing you the best with teaching and yes I always wondered why teachers in the past was like you have some wonderful kids until I started watching why teachers are quitting I’m so sorry you guys go thur that it’s so sad and parents it starts at home we have to teach our kids to do better it’s so sas😢❤ but love ❤️ you keep up the good work ❤❤❤❤
I feel like this school is going to be a much better fit for you. I remember attending a small private school from 3rd-8th grade that was for students with Dyslexia. I feel like I could have benefited from it in high school, but with a different principal from the one i had when I was in 8th grade. I attended a Catholic school that had a Dyslexia Program when I was in high school. I don't know how I would have done in a public high school.
Do kids have specials like PE or music? Do you have any prep time during the day? Just seeing your schedule on the board and seemed like a lot for you!
My planning is first thing in the morning before students arrive. We have our contract hours starting an hour early. We don’t have any specials, but if I ever need a break, I just call admin and they will come stay with the kids for a few minutes so I can take a break.
I’m teaching a 3-4 split in a small Christian school this year. I am nervous about how to fit it all in and what to keep separate such as reading and math and spelling and what to combine. Do you combine social studies and science or teach those separately? I do have specials so that’s 45 minutes a day where I am not teaching. Our day is only 8-2:30 so add in a one hour lunch and recess and it’s tight. I should also mention I have to teach cursive too.
I personally am doing everything separate to start and seeing how it goes. I go over 4th grade material first as a review for fifth and then do the fifth grade instruction while fourth grade works independently. It’s definitely a tight squeeze with all of the subjects though.
@@brookelynnenoelHow is it going now that you have a few weeks under your belt? Anything you’ve changed or found difficult? We start next week. I decided to combine Bible, Heritage, and Science. I’m using fourth grade materials for those. We use BJU Press. Bible for fourth grade is all Old Testament. They learn a lot. Science and Heritage I will have to alternate each quarter. I can’t fit both in each day.
It’s going great! We don’t have an actual Bible curriculum so I create my own and do that all together. Everything else is the same as I started the year with except for language. The curriculums are very similar for both grades so I teach it to them together and then their seat work is differentiated by grade.
@@brookelynnenoel oh nice! I am wondering when you correct all this seatwork? My curriculum is workbook based so I’m planning to like teach reading to one grade while the other does spelling and then while the reading group works on the workbook part of the lesson, I’ll go over and correct the spelling with them etc. I’m hoping to eliminate having to correct things myself except for tests, homework, quizzes.
