You can use the color changing lights as a reward too. For example, if you behave in this desirable manner, than you can pick the color of the lights. Just a thought! Love you and your content Michelle ❤️
When you were putting the grip down I thought that was the carpet I was like ummmm that ain’t gonna work😂 Edit:Thx for the unnecessary amount of likes lol
Watching these sort of videos get me so excited. I want to be a primary school teacher when I am older. I am still at school but my last year. So next year I can begin my college courses then university.
Hi! I am also an elementary school teacher! Here in Russia we are not allowed to put lights on the walls and make our classroom that colorful. Students always sit in pairs and they must wear uniform. There are about 25-35 kids in a class. Also we don't have a library and carpets in our classrooms. Teachers don't buy a lot of things because goverment provides some essential items such as books, posters, text books. Also kids always write with pens. If someone forgets his pen teacher won't give him a pen. We teach kids to be responsible and kind so you need to raise your hand and ask class for a pen. So teachers never buy pencils, crayons, scissors for kids. I taught the first grade last year and I will be teaching the same kids for 3 more years. Teachers in Russia never decorate rooms alone as parents are very involved and helpful. It was very interesting to see the way you organize classrooms on the other side of the planet : )
I'm not a teacher but I never understood why they make you guys empty your room, why not just the floor for a good cleaning? I wouldn't want to store my whole classroom in my home. Thanks for doing all you do for our kids .
they clean more than just the floor during the summer- I used to work as a janitor and EVERY nook and cranny gets cleaned- all the shelving, the walls, the boards, literally everything. it's quite the process!
I feel like this all the time! Cleaning out of the end of the year can be annoying, but it's also good because some teachers (ME) tend to hoard things from years and years ago thinking we may need it. Cleaning up at that end of the year is like a purge. Also, as one of other comments said, hopefully it will get a thorough cleaning while we are gone! You are right about not wanting to take it home. In NYC, many of the teachers live in apartments and don't have space for things at home. Many of the schools will allow you to secure things in the closet as long as it doesn't get in the way of cleaning.
As a tired 52 year old teacher, I can say you do a great job (especially with all the limitations the school has for time being in your room. I can go to my room whenever I want and stay as late as I want (and I still can't finish it in a day). One commenter said you don't live in your room. lol! Sometimes I feel like I live in my room. This old dog has even learned a few new tricks from you. I teach in a private school and only have 16 students. You mentioned a possibility of 35 students... Let's have a vlog at some point in the future about grading/managing all those papers and assessments, while still having a life outside of the classroom.
@@butteredbananas1394 lol, in the Philippines, most public schools (as far as i know) have almost 40-50 students per grade. there are usually less students in private schools, so our grade has almost 40 students. (p.s it's feels like hell)
I actually like the voice over a lot. I'm honestly not sure if I like the small group table back near/in the library area because it doesn't look like there's very much room for students to sit in the library and read. I kind of wish you would have did a different layout with the desks, but whatever works best for you and your students is what should be done. I can't wait for part two!! Still waiting on that townhouse tour ;-)
I like the idea of the voice over, but I’ll be honest, it makes it less accessible, especially with the voice over, diagetic sound (moving things around etc) and the music, it all comes together for a REALLY challenging listening experience. I’m hearing impaired and rely on lip reading and context clues to understand speech in non-captioned videos. With the voiceover, I lose the lip reading part of that, and honestly, auto-generated captions just aren’t good enough. So I would suggest either doing a voiceover but with video of your face in the corner (think how game streamers do it), or adding official captions, or going back to your old style. That said, love the video, great work so far! I’m one of your oldest subscribers, I started watching back when you only had 3 videos done, so there’s not much you could do to get me to stop watching.
Sky Kennedy I wonder if Michelle is willing to allow viewers to submit captions? I know some of the bigger RU-vidrs either use a service or have viewers submit them. A lot more reliable than the automated version!
I'm reading all the comments and they all like oh I'm a teacher and oh I'm a kid that wants to be a teacher and I'm like I have no idea why I'm watching this... but it's interesting
Hi! 👋 I work in a school IT/Network Department (High School 2800 pupils!) and you can’t split an Ethernet port with a splitter, it doesn’t work. Each PC has to be connected to a distinct network port. Just ask your IT for a longer cable to reach the farther port. Have fun!
Good for you for being realistic about not having your classroom perfect! I don't think anyones classroom is ever perfect, but it's awesome how excited you are! Organization is everything!!
why don’t they let you set up your classroom ahead of time? that’s weird. that must especially suck for the Kindergarten teachers since parents usually come with their children the first day and they don’t get to see the classroom like nice and put together for their first day of school. i just wonder why that’s a rule, doesn’t the school want the classrooms to look nice for the first day back to school? 🤔 not being rude just thinking out loud lol. love these videos ♥️
I am only nine, but i am sooo excited. I really want to be a teacher 👩🏼🏫when I grow up. Your videos are so inspiring and i am getting a LOT of information about teaching and i am sooo excited
I do love the voice over, because you would usually do music over a time lapse, so hearing and understanding what youre doing is very informative!! Also Michelle you are so cute!! I never knew you were as short as you are!
Yay you’re back in your classroom!! I’m Team “old style” videos... sorry! 😬 I loved the music you would play and don’t need all the extra talking... sometimes just watching is good! But of course either way, I love you and will watch no matter what! 😊😊
+Pocketful of Primary Hang in there Michelle . You'll get it all done …… even if you have end up having to do the equivalent of what the Catholic Priests do for electing the next pope at the Vatican " The Papal Conclave ". Have a " Teacher Classroom Set Up Conclave " in the form of if they don't offer help for your classroom prep don't take any time for them . Unfortunately , it's not like you are going to be living in the school and in your classroom but I am saying that you are focused on nothing but classroom set up for the school year when you enter that school and not be opened to anything else from anybody but help for classroom set up . With that said , your hair looks awesome . Don't worry about that . I do like those rainbow drawers and those lights of yours . Also I like your voice over too . Keep it going . - Dwight
I like the voice over! Though I like everything you do! 😉😬 I will say I did miss your morning car talks and Dunkin run 😂 But you do you! Whatever makes you happy and whatever makes your back-to-school transition easiest
I like the voice over. That way we get to see you working, rather than just telling us what you did. But I think either way is great! I can’t believe summer is over!! I’m going from 4th grade to 2nd so I’m extremely excited! Best of luck this year! I’m excited to “watch” your year 😊
Love the voice over and the magnetic numbers! I bought your schedule cards and LOVE them. I'm using the all black and white option cards in my room. We are starting week 4 at my school and curriculum night is this Wednesday. Time flies! I still have a few things left to do in my room as well, but as a teacher I don't know that we ever feel like it all gets done. Take care and have a great week!
I used to volunteer in my kids old school. Here in the UK teachers don't really have the time to sort and organise like you have done. I would often go into their store cupboards and clear the crap off the floor and tidy the shelves. Being careful not to go through anything I thought was personal student data. As they keep records of the students progress. Some teachers do go into school during the holidays to get the classrooms ready and the planning too. I completely respect what you do. As a lot of parents think you guys work from 8:00 a. m -3.30 p.m but I know that is not the case. You go home and you still haven't finished. As planning can carry on at home, mark books, arrange planning for specific children's individual needs. Each child is at a different level. You have to cater for the higher ability. Average ability, a lower ability, those who find it difficult to focus. My next goal is to do a Maths course because I am absolutely crap at it. And I would love to work with special needs children. Love this video. I must say you are very well organised.
Thank gawd! School where I live doesn’t start for another week. I am so dreading the start of the school year. I needed the summer to recover from last year! Your eyebrows look great by the way, your microblader did a great job. 👍
I am definitely liking the voice-over because I can see what you're talking about! So nice to know you also didn't get to get into your room until PD started...I'm not alone! haha I saw my classroom for the first time 10 days before the students came back...it's still not near perfect but that's okay!
I'm in 5th grade and in like 5 months in September I'm gonna be in grade 6 I like watching these kinds of videos cuz I'm weird And I don't have middle school where I live and I Go back to school I'm September and Get out of school for Summer break in June
We (teachers) went back to school at the end of August. I'm UBER pregnant and didn't spend as much time setting up my classroom this year because I'm just so exhausted. I'm glad I had the foresight though to put things away in a manner at the end of last year so my room still looks really nice. I've got some organizing to still do, but that can wait! I liked the voiceover and your classroom already is looking great! Excited to see it all done. I love classroom tours! Have a wonderful year!
Hey Michelle! I'm so glad to see you back in your classroom and your set up! You have definitely been a huge inspiration in my life and my teaching career. I'm a first year Kindergarten teacher this year and I've incorporated a lot of tips and tricks you've suggested. Thank you for sharing your classroom and your journey with us, I'm excited to see your next set up video! :) In terms of the voiceover, I definitely didn't mind it. I appreciate the additional details though I hope you don't completely do away with face talking to the camera. I feel that adds a personal element to your videos that might not be there with only voice overs. Again, thanks so much!
I'm in the midst of applying for a teacher training course at university, and I've been binge-watching your videos for a couple of days now and these organisation ones make me extra excited! Watching you as a teacher makes me want to become the best teacher I can be ☺️
Your absolutely right it takes a few days to setup and there is always something to change. Great videos I always enjoy them. Good luck and best wishes for a great start. Smiles from down under.

At my school we have to take EVERYTHING home. I did change classrooms but we rent the building so my spare room in my moms house was packed with my things. So excited to see the final result!
I've enjoyed watching your videos this summer! I love your organization and flair per your room. Your energy is infectious. I go back tomorrow and, as you stated, the entire week is chock-full of meetings, mandatory training etc. We can't get into our rooms until Friday. My teaching schedule is less stressful this year, leaving a balance of time for case management. My mantra for this year is 'balance' (work, doctoral studies, sorority service, church service and elder parent monitoring). Last year I almost 'lost it'...actually, I was sick as a dog in April. I have learned to say 'no' starting with the 'no school work/contact' rule I instituted this summer. Now I'm refreshed.
I remember my 7th grade teacher home room. Got two computers, i have no idea why, but me and 5 other students wanted to name one billy and the other bob. And together they are billy bob.... Right now i am going into 12th grade. 😂 but I remember my 7th grade only because that room was my favorite part of the day to go for class.
With 35 students HOW IN THE WORLD do you keep up with grading? I'm really interested in knowing your strategy for that once things get rolling in the school year. I have 18-20 and find it to be a challenge to both plan and grade and keep up with both. Also, does your school have a cut off limit for the number of students in one class?
Hey!! I was wondering if you could make a seating arrangement video? I want to be a 5th grade teacher which means I will have about 125 students...I have no idea how to arrange my seats please help me out! 😫😔
"At the end of the year, I basically play Tetris" Me: "Welcome to Moscow Russia in 1980" Also me: "I STILL PLAY THAT ANCIENT GAME ON CONSOLE" edit: blame it on Grammarly
