ClawHammer Banjo Mutes-
1. Song I just made up
2. The Great Remember. By Steve Martin
How mutes dampen sound so you don’t cause family members to run away while you’re practicing! I also share tips on how to enhance tones and get the right effects when performing live or just playing for fun.
Face it, Banjos are loud instruments. They are much louder to the person who is hearing one played than the person playing it. That’s because the sound is projected forward, especially when using a resonator. It’s a little harder for the player to hear what the listener hears (thus, it’s OK to play softer, believe it or not)
Clawhammer style is a little different because open backs don’t have a resonator. However, many open-back Banjos have tone rings. And because of this, the sound DOES project more.
In this video I talk about banjo mutes, but also ways to change the tone of the banjo depending on the kind of foam materials that you use on the inside of the head. Plus, using the foams that I recommend cut out feedback when using a mic on a banjo from the inside.
In this video, I’m demonstrating on the Deering Goodtime Artisan open back Banjo. And also the Deering Vega “Vintage Star” open back.
Hope this helps! And please subscribe to my channel for more instructional videos, plus songs and I’ll be sharing.
