Enjoy a fine onboard lap with the late Clay Regazzoni, driving a BRM, at Zeltweg's circuit in 1973. Only natural sounds!
Note, in the low right side of the car the "T" letter, indicating that he was driving a test car during the occasion.
All credits goes to the original capper.

@Claudia Ficicchia could u pls bear with my queries:- suppose u want to be a race driver in F1 Then regarding driving skills, How long does it take to get trained? Does a racer has to be from automobiles background or he can be from any stream or field? I've heard that to be able to drive in F1 you gonna have to start from F4 then gradually rise till level of F1 , is that correct? Will be waitin for ur answers..thanks & best wishes to you , greetings from India 🎉🙂

So cool to see this old gem driven without the chicane. I spend allot of time in simulators, this is my favorite track by far. Best version I've found is in 'Automobilista 2' - Spielberg 1974 - Truly a blast to drive. Perhaps one day it will be restored (it's all still there). I can dream right? Thanks for sharing this video, I really appreciate it.

It’s just the FIA, which has become overly safety obsessed, even the fans today do not seen capable of accepting any danger. That’s why classic circuits will never return again, especially when you consider that European “environmental groups“ and NIMBY groups challenge everything no matter how small. I put environmental groups because I think most of the groups challenging things like changes to a track are not interested in protecting the environment, but just blocking anything they believe might generate a tiny bit of temporary hassle.

***** Cheers Mate. But that should be spring 74. Peter died at Kyalami early in the year while testing the Shadow at Kyalami. And yes, it is maddening that Pryce died at the same Track....in a Shadow too. Both Peter and Tom were lovely Men. I met Pryce twice, and you couldn't help but like the man; He was gentle, unassuming and friendly. It was a great Tragedy. But at that time, that was Racing....

That's precisely the problem, all those "little adjustments". That's what ruins the racing, not the fear of death. If we keep making things simpler for the drivers then why would they need any skill? I don't want them to be pushing buttons, controlling consumption, covering the f-duct or enabling the DRS. Give them light cars, huge power, no electronical aids, and just the steering wheel, the pedals and the gear lever to control it. That's what I call racing, new F1 is an engineering competition
@mgutierrez7737
@mgutierrez7737 6 лет назад
wacha90 F1 would be nothing if it wasn't for the engineers and as someone who aspires to be one I think the sport is about the whole team, the magical pitcrews the stellar inventors and innovators (engineers) and the heroic drivers

f1 has always been an engineering competitiion. Whats the point otherwise. You could also give them identical cars, but there are several racing series with identical cars. Go watch that if you don't like f1. And all those little adjustments don't make it easier for the driver. In the old days you only had to steer, shift, brake and accelerate. Nowadays you also have to use all your aids in a specific way to maximse the benefit and you have to manage a lot of information. And light cars and huge power sounds fun, but the cars nowadays do have huge power. In fact much more than in 1973. They are heavier but making them lighter would only increase the speeds to dangerous levels. F1 is not fine as it is, but your solution is just plain wrong

@monkeyfist29 Marlboro sponsored BRM in 1972 and 1973, and both Regazzoni and Lauda were BRM drivers that season. In 1973 Ferrari had Jacky Ickx and Arturo Merzario. Btw, Marlboro switched to McLaren in 1974 and remained with them for 23 seasons until their last season as the main sponsor in 1996. Here's something for you to chew on. Ron Dennis's racing team was called Marlboro Project 4 and this is why McLaren cars were called MP4/1, MP4/2 and MP4/26 today. Nice trollin' kid.

I couldn't agree with you more! The only thing you missed is the fact that those guys were driving these real cars in real, fast circuits. Circuits that had actual CURVES in them, fast curves... and not those pieces of fucking crap that Hermann Tilke designs today.
@richard_nj
@richard_nj 3 года назад
modern cars would take these fast curves you're talking of near flat to easily flat, which absolutely cancels out the bravery and fear factor of back in the day and the dirty air would make it impossible to follow closely. Also, on a track with a lot high speed corners they'd need square miles of runoff to satisfy modern safety standards. None of these things are Tilke's fault. It's simply an overall bad choice to base a new circuit on long, high speed corners. Tilke has created a few incredibly poor tracks, but he's better than people give him credit for. He's just such a low hanging fruit, the easiest of scapegoats.

That BRM V12 sounds very nice indeed. From what I've read it was a powerful unit sadly mated to uncompetitive chassis. Pretty much the same was true for the Matra V12.
@weallfollowmanutd
@weallfollowmanutd 5 лет назад
Apparently, the BRM V12 was underpowered and the Cosworths were achieving more or less, the same horsepower and much less weight. The chassis was one of the best according to Niki Lauda.
@theant9821
@theant9821 11 месяцев назад
From what Niki Lauda said in his biography it was a beautiful car to drive, just not very powerful and with the v12 quite heavy so wasn't as fast as the likes of lotus etc. He says he might never have won at ferrari had he not raced the brm first. He said the first ferrari he drove was a pig, and if he hadn't already driven this car he wouldn't have known how bad the ferrari was. So wouldn't have complained and worked so hard to help develop the 312t. Because he already knew a heavy 12 cylinder f1 car could still be made handle like a dream. He also said he began to lose interest when brabham went to the cosworth engines for a better ground effect car, having until then spent his entire career with 12 cylinder f1 cars (brm v12, ferrari flat 12 and alfa romeo flat 12 and v12). Which brought about his first retirement from f1.

@TifosiAlonso He was decent, and his win in Long Beach 1976 was true class. However you surely can't compare him to Gilles Villeneuve, Niki Lauda, Jacky Ickx or Carlos Reutemann? When having the best car in 1976 he didn't win the title after Lauda's accident. I mean Irvine almost won in 1999... Btw, Regazzoni raced for BRM in 1973. I wonder if he would could join Lauda in Ferrari for 1974 if Ickx hadn't signed for Lotus (who can blame him the '73 Ferrari was dreadful).

Steering wheels aren't round nowadays because of the driver's position in the race car,if it was round it would be freaking huge and just ridiculous looking.And there has to be room for all the little adjustment knobs and buttons.You should be happy that times have changed,now drivers don't have to worry about dying every time they get in their car,they can just have pure racing.And you think electronics control ALL the braking and acceleration?That's why you're not an engineer.Times change.

It wasn't boring and it was one of the fastest circuits on the planet. The Austrian GP frequently produced a surprise winner in the days of the Oesterreichring. There were some really nasty approaches, like the Hella Licht bend (where Mark Donohue crashed). Niki Lauda rated it one of the hardest corners in F1.
@zetecryt
@zetecryt 4 года назад
This comment is demonstrating why we feel sorry for the younger generation who don't know any better. Thank god this track had no "corners" but curves. Unlike today's circuits ("Mickey Mouse" circuits as James Hunt would have called them) built with slow artificial corners and flat as a billiard table, best tracks of yore had 200kph curves with bumps and elevation changes across real terrain. Osterreichring was one of the best. No second gear "corners", but curves taken flat in 4th, 5th gears. Cars with very little downforce and so much less tyre grip than nowadays, 4-wheel drifting gracefully, driven by men with balls literally balancing their life with their throttle. Look for a photo of Gilles Villeneuve exiting the 250kph Hella Licht curve (last corner onto the straight) drifting with his rear tyre about 2 inches from the outside armco..
