Thank you so much for being real. I have watched so many videos on youtube on how to clean an oven, and all they do is talk about themselves before getting to the task at hand. I love that you are REAL, no special hair, make up etc. "its like, can you get to the point already", I'm really going to do it thank you so much for the confidence. I already know its going to be messy. Oh well. My oven is way past due, ha 23 years. Its going to happen.
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 2 года назад
First, thank you for your kind comments. I almost didn't publish it because I thought it took so much longer and was so much harder than I expected. So I thought no one would watch it! I wanted to delete it. But then it ended up being so popular. Anyone who's cleaned a bad oven knows it's not a 5 minute job, especially when you don't use oven cleaner. But video after video shows it being so easy. I wondered what was wrong with me. HA! I want to try this method - boil water and put a few powdered dishwashing pods in (like the Kirkland pods you get at Costco). Cover the bottom of the oven and use a turkey baster or cup to get it on the sides (the top is hopeless, ha!). Let sit overnight and wipe off. I'm not sure if it works on all ovens so I'm still testing it. But my aunt cleaned her oven this way and it was so much easier. Then we tried it but only let it sit for an hour and it wasn't that helpful. So I'm on a mission to see if it'll work if I leave it longer. And use THIS pumice stone wet on the glass and hard spots. I wish I'd known how much better this pumice stone is than the one I used in this video (find it here - amzn.to/3zArSBq). It costs more but it's not as porous. It does a better job! Doesn't fall apart so much and leave a gray residue behind. Plus a case and a handle. The one I used is scratchy and stuck to all my cloths. The right tools really help. Good luck!!

The "bubbling action" is just the vinegar + baking soda neutralizing, which basically makes salt water. I found the Scrub Daddy Powerpaste works the best for cleaning ovens. You don't have to wait and let it sit. It's all natural, comes with a sponge in the container, and I even used the SD Scour Pad to buff out the grimier spots 👍

I’m not sure if you realise it, but It is the washing soda paste that is softening the grease and making it easier to remove. The bubbling foam you see when you spray the vinegar is merely the vinegar (an acid) reacting with the washing soda (alkali) i.e. neutralisation. This is a useful action but it is not helping to clean the fat from the cooker, unless the paste has dried out a bit, in which case, the water in the vinegar is helping with the flow. As you rightly say, the longer the soda can be left on, then the less work is required. Using a pumice stone on an enamel surface? They are two things that should really be kept apart from each other, to avoid damaging the enamel and making future cleaning even more difficult. Of course, there is always the “clean the oven more often” approach but I prefer to do other things with my time. I’m more into the “leave it on longer” method 😉. I wish you well.
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 3 года назад
Thanks for your input. On the pumice stones, use the cleaning kind only, not the ones you use on your feet). I've used them on many ovens with no scratching. You must make sure they're wet and never use them dry. Many pro cleaners use them, but it's possible there are some surfaces they're not good for. Some ovens warn against using any commercial cleaners on your enamel, so I can imagine using a stone could be a no, too.

I find this is the best way for me, though I can never seem to eliminate ALL of the baking soda, it appears when I first use the oven again and a little bit more is revealed over the next few times I use it, but hey! It's just a wee bit of baking soda, it doesn't smell or do anything. I really think this is wonderful. It's practically free, it doesn't stink up the house or even the oven, and won't exacerbate my breathing trouble like practically all store bought cleaners do nowadays. By the time I get around to this job I ALWAYS have to vacuum out the oven first. A lot of DIY presenters don't have to do that part, but I sure do. Thanks for the pumice stone tip! Frankly, it looks ingenious.

I suppose if one was super concerned they could run the oven once to see where it appears but like you said it doesn’t affect anything- a slight dusting of soda changes the taste of food a whole lot less than all that burnt junk! I have another comment-the dollar tree Awesome vinegar is super strong and works great. I hate the smell, but it works great.

I misread your comment. We have noticed that some of the cleaner like this aren't as strong as if you buy them somewhere else. It doesn't state the dilution so it's tough to know how it compares.

Pretty much every oven door just lifts off the hinges. Then you can lay the door on a paper-covered counter to clean it. And clean the oven without crouching over the oven door the entire time. Much easier!

A microfiber towel which you get 2 at the dollar tree for a buck would safe a lot of time and makes it easier. Papertowel and napkins are wood based so after time believe it or not they leave micro scratches which give the stuff your cleaning more areas to hide in and harder to get out. Also they have a wand extension with scrub pad at dollar tree that gives you more scrubbing power because of the torque aspect and it gives you an easier way to reach those far corners and wall . Here is a massive tip try putting a pot oven safe of course in the oven filled 3/4 with water and vinegar and turn on until it starts tomorrow steam the entire oven then turn it off and watch how much easier it is to clean. You can use the same method for microwaves and of course use a microwave safe container .

I love how your Cleaned Oven turned out! Believe it or Not, putting the wire racks into a black trash bag after wiping with Ammonia, tying it closed, and waiting 1-2 hours...they should wipe clean! Another place to clean racks, is to SOAK them in Ammonia in the Bathtub or Sinks they fit! OVEN Cleaning is always Exhausting to do! I hate that job, and put it off! 😫😥🤔👍👍👍👏

First take old rags to wipe the oven with once the baking soda & vinegar has acted. To be sure you can spread pure dishwashing liquid & dry it with clean old rags then rinse out. You save time & work.

Really happy to see natural products used for cleaning. The oven looks great. Brilliant to use a pumice stone. I’d never think of that. I’m suspicious of videos where the people don’t make a mess when cleaning. That’s just not what real life is like! Thanks for the video.

tip: use the curly metal scrubs on the racks it goes way faster under running hot water, then any left over burnt grease spots scrape with pointy blade type or small sharp knife. & on the "joints" use those small fine metal bristle brushes you can find in dollar places.

To clean the oven racks I put them in a garbage bag with paper towels, spray with ammonia (careful not to breathe the fumes), close the bag and leave it in the garage overnight. They are MUCH easier to clean the next day. Works even in winter and I live in New England!
@CleanFreakGermaphobe
@CleanFreakGermaphobe 2 года назад
I’ve tried it and it didn’t do much, even after leaving it for a day, changing the ammonia several times and letting it sit longer. I’ve decided all racks are different so one solution may not worth for everyone.
