Do you need the BT top plate for this to work?

@@julienajarryonly if you want to use the support bracket that connects the top plate to the 8T Rod mount bracket. Definitely worth it I reckon, makes the handle feel so much more solid 👍🏻

I love your set up! Very compact and tidy :) I saw your other video were you put the Teradek 500 and a Rode product. Have you ever use a set up rig with the Small HD, the teradek 500 and maybe a tilta wireless follow focus motor? And have you ever had issues powering that through your wooden camera plate? I'm thinking about buying this camera and making a really practical set up for mostly narrative work. Was wondering if you ever used something like that. Just to make sure I buy the right accessories ;) Thanks for sharing your set up and have a goo day!

Hey there, cheers! I haven’t used the tilta system but consistently use the Smallhd paired with the Teradek and have never had an issue with them. The only downside with the FX6 is the single Sdi out so I use a freakshow Sdi splitter. Flick me a message on Instagram if you’d like me to send some pics of my current rig. Where is the viewfinder monitor? How do you operate the camera? Correct me if I'm wrong, but SmallHD does not have camera control for the fx6.

You can operate the camera completely without the Sony monitor apart from touch autofocus. I mainly use manual focus lenses mostly anyway. Smallhd are releasing an update soon that will allow camera control apparantly.

Love the setup! How do you like the wooden camera v-mount plate? Is it really secure? I'm thinking about switching from the Tilta plate that mounts to the battery slot because I want to be able to hot swap and keep the stock battery in the camera.

Cheers! I like it man, only issue I’ve had is previously I had it on my b-fx6 and after travelling with it quite a bit, one of the threads stripped itself from the case getting banged around and isn’t really fixable unless you send it back to Sony I guess. I swapped the plate to the other fx6 and now I put foam between the plate and body etc to brace it better for airline travel.

Hey there, thats a Bright Tangerine top handle brace, you will need their top plate and 8T Nato bracket for it to connect the two though 👍🏻 I chose the shortest length spud :)

Would you say the "anchor" to the Topplate is a must? I want to mount my SmallHD Ultra 5 the same way / as a "viewfinder". But I already own the Tilta FX6 Cage. It's a quit heavy monitor though..

I'd say that it's not essential but it really makes the whole rig feel sturdier, I would get one :)

The Lenzlock mini quick release is not available in the US. Nor is the Arri 3/8″ Pin-Loc 15mm Spud. Can you suggest a comparable replacements in the US that works with the rest of the setup? Thank you .

Ahh really? There might be other companies that stock them in the states, I’m from Aus so unsure. I know Kondor Blue do one. I haven’t seen any other companies making the Arri 15mm spuds, sorry!

@@jackdonohoe Word! I'll bite the bullet haha Follow up Q - have you had issues with your smallHD image skewing magenta / red? I just got the Cine7 and Skintones are leaning red straight out the box. Did you calibrate yours?

@@AndyTurner773 Yeah mine was slightly out too, I have the indie 7 as well and it was the same. I tried using my xrite calibrator but it wasn’t supported from memory. Ended up just dialing in the colours manually, not perfect but better than the way it came out of the box 👍🏻 hope that helps! :)

Very nice! Would you mind sharing the parts number you used with SmallHD monitor? 0:24. Do you know if it would be possible to have both Sony and SmallHD monitor with BT kit? Thanks!

Thanks! It’s ‘278700’. You’d definitely be able to use both monitors but you’d most like mount the stock Sony monitor off the top plate against the handle. There’s plenty of images online showing where other people have mounted it :)

You can but you can’t use it as a touch screen, worth keeping the stock monitor on the body somewhere if you need the touch functions 👍🏻

You can but you won’t have touchscreen functionality, you can definitely rig the stock monitor onto the camera somewhere though :)

Unfortunately not, wish I could! If only Sony’s stock monitor was bright enough to use outside!

Nah you can’t, definitely a downside. I’m more often than not using vintage lenses anyway

It's all linked in the description but the 15mm rod is from Upgrade Innovations and the Smallhd locking pn bracket is from Wooden Camera :)
