Too little too late; Windows long ago crossed a line with it's force-feeding of ridiculously huge "updates" and unwanted gigabytes of gratuitous apps that nobody wants, where you can only uninstall a couple of kilobytes as if that would make any difference: A combination of Android and Linux is the only alternative to get anything done once they've nuked Win7 (and I hate Linux after a brief dabble 10 years ago) There may be some people who have no choice and have to slave away on Win10, but even the most ardent Linux skeptics (and I'm one ofe them ) are gritting their teeth and rolling up their sleeves to figure out some way to make that confused tangle of work-arounds get them through the day because they've finally had enough... #orwecouldjustbangrockstogether

The video is very helpful, but I have some questions left: 1. The huge topic about services - there are a lot of them and some of them are just eating up resources. It will be great to have detailed guide on what services could be disabled without unwanted effects; 2. After disabling the telemetry, which is partially done by blacklisting addresses of MS servers, sometimes feels like windows loads noticeably longer due to attempts to reach to servers. On low-end machines it feels very bad. What to do with that? Is it possible to disable some bloat functionality by physically preventing those services/dll's from being loaded and executed? 3. Comparison with LTS version of win 10 may help a lot!

Word of caution: some of this stuff can really ruin your day if you're unlucky like me. I have a new comp (2 months old) for gaming and music production. Doing this screwed up gaming ( later found out it had something to do with removing registry keys dealing with Microsoft Store), but that wasn't the big deal. For some reason, this program decided to erase most of the VST plugins I was using, as well as removing quite a few apps I use in sample splicing, etc. when I went to restore back to the restore point I made just before doing all this, it did nothing to fix it. I ended up having to go back to a restore point a week before. Most of the plugins came back, BUT, all the sounds I had created were gone. So, any songs I had written using the VSTs will never sound the same. NOT Chris Titus' fault by ANY means, just a head's up for those walking along the same path. All in all, I wanted to streamline my computer, and ended up working to get what I could back, and eventually have to live with losing close to 50 hours of work on music.

Before this video: RAM = 60% usage, CPU = 62% usage, HDD = 40% usage. After this video (with tweaks particular to my setup): RAM = 40% usage, CPU = 8% usage, HDD = 2% usage. I'm normally pretty good with performance tweaks, but I wasn't even aware of how much bloat there is in Win10. "ShutUp" shut down a lot of unnecessary services that I thought I had killed, and so far I have had better-than-fresh-install performance already. I will be recommending this to many of my friends. THANK YOU!

I have been hearing it is the year of the linux desktop since 1998 LOL.. Linux as an OS is fine, it is all the useless dependencies, the various GUI's, and shitty software on top of it that will forever keep it's desktop market share low. Look what Android did with Linux...if linux as a desktop wants to become mainstream it needs to start over.

I have been using puppy Linux for years now. Basically, there is no need to "configure" because it asks you about 3 questions at the first boot and from then on it just works. It is a compact one that can boot from CD or memory stick. It saves all your work in a compressed file so Windows doesn't even know about it (other than one file)

Turning off hibernation also disables fastboot, which means now a shutdown does the same as a restart as far as bootup is concerned which is good. A lot of people when stuff doesn't work right, turn their computer off and back on and it still doesn't work. That's because windows wasn't restarting but just doing a hibernation hybrid shutdown. I really wish they would make it clear to the user, because the boot up as far as turning the computer off and back on or restarting look identical.

As someone who's concerned about privacy and security, I can't say I'm a huge fan of running a Powershell script that downloads "Some Random Code From Somewhere On The Internet (TM)" that deletes OS files and changes a bunch of system configs. Who knows what else it does? ...or will do next time? I'd really appreciate a video that goes item-by-item through what the debloater removes with thorough descriptions of how it gets added, why Microsoft thinks it needs to be there, and how we know that deleting it doesn't have negative repercussions. If you're informed enough to go diff the current version on GitHub with the last version your ran to make sure it's not doing some new nefarious thing, good job, but for the rest of us: don't take candy from strangers on GitHub.

The amount of "Erase Windows, Install Linux" comments is so ridiculous. Some people cannot make that switch! I dual boot Win 10 and Mint. Yea I have a copy of Windows running under VBox for Photoshop, etc. but you still cannot run many apps or games like Far Cry, Battlefield, etc. Sadly for now Windows is a necessary evil for some people. Dual booting is still not a guaranteed easy feat for total non-techies.

Agree. I've been wanting to switch my HP Omen laptop to a Linux distro, but it seems that laptops with hybrid graphics ( It has a GTX 1050 Ti and Intel HD Graphics 620) are a massive nightmare to get to work correctly. I tried Kali Linux and Parrot OS on it (I know they're security-oriented systems), but it was a massive pain to even get the discreet card working correctly. And even then, it wasn't as seamless as on Windows.

Beware about what the "debloater" does: for example it removes video codecs you need for many websites. Codecs do not cause your PC to be slow, they are only active in softwares needing them to play audio/videos encode with them (and if you remove them, you will not hear/see the audio/video at all that you intended to play, there will be no replacement in many places with alternative streams encoded differently, or you'll endup using some other less efficient MPEG codecs that have poorer quality and require more bandwidth on the network, and less abilities to use fast forward/backward in them. The codecs in Windows are not necessarily bad, even if there are a few better implementations (but most high-performing implementation are not free). If you install any mediaplayer app, they will ask you to reinstall the missing codecs they need to play yourt medias. Be aware that there are "free" codecs on the web that are in fact malicious or could cause instabilities in your hardware because of unsafe optimizations. This should not occur with the codecs provided by Windows, and at least they will be updated regularly as necessary (this won't happen with many "free codec packages", that also come with additional bloatwares including apps making recurrent internet accesses to report your usage, send profiling data, and download newer unstable versions).

I would want to see that Powershell code to see what it is doing before I click any buttons, especially Delete All buttons. You should distinguish between uninstall actions and safer actions such as disabling unnecessary scheduled tasks or removing unnecessary programs from Startup. But you should also tell people how you’re determining what to remove.

You nailed it in the last segment......if a Home only user, ditch Windows 10 & go with say, Linux Mint Cinnamon (latest version is 20 Beta as of this typing). Runs just as good as 19.3 for me, although am no power user. Why do I suggest Linux Mint Cinnamon? Now more than ever, going back to Windows 7 days, it's Start Menu & operation mode is closer to that of Windows 10, making it easy to dive in. All major browsers (other than IE & Edge) are supported, so bookmarks & browser extensions are transferred. Yet the best thing about Linux in general, is that what's done in O&O Shutup is done & more! Look at the Power Manager & see how many fewer processes are fighting for every GB of installed RAM at boot. Although Google Chrome is still the same, have switched back to Firefox because they introduced an extension to stop WebRTC leaks. Combined with a VPN (ProtonVPN is perfect for those with one computer w/out paying a red cent & unlimited, plus no ads), their free Secure eMail, where I discovered their VPN, is also truly Private & in a neutral nation (doesn't report to the 12 or so eyes), and being able to stop WebRTC leaks via Firefox extension are important to your security. So while being able to 'fine tune' Windows 10 to run faster & more private is a good thing, running a user friendly Linux (after a learning curve) is even better. Runs great on one's older computer to get a feel for the OS, can also easily dual boot on a single SSD (or HDD) not that UEFI & GPT are givens. Used to be to run Linux Mint on MBR based notebooks, had to get an optical drive bay adapter to store an extra drive, this would be for Windows Data & Linux Mint /home (much the same as Data) & in some cases, the Swap partition. Today's Linux Mint has a swapfile built in like Windows, so many won't need this partition any longer, unless running virtual machines or doing serious work (there's 3-4 Linux equivalents for every Windows software). Maybe best of all, little to no Telemetry with Linux Mint. Hopefully Ubuntu has removed the Amazon adverts from their latest releases, this was a major issue many Linux enthusiasts decried. Thanks....and subscribed with your previous video!💖

So I have an SSD (which is where W10 is installed) and an HDD where I store all my games, programs, music etc. I want to dual boot W10 and Linux Mint, but I also want to install Linux on the HDD and just leave the SSD for Windows, is there anything special I need to do in order to have both OS running?

I was expecting to be informed of safely uninstalling actual programs off the computer by individual removal from the Programs section. Instead, Mr Chris Titus has taken an ill-fated approach of showing computer users of an advanced option on how to tamper with a computer's software innards where in all likelihood will destabilize its performance. This approach is akin to rooting a mobile phone for the sake of improving its overall performance without taking into account of latent issues pending following said outside user intervention. From my point of view, I would refrain from following Mr Titus' recommendations, period. His suggestions should ONLY be attempted by ADVANCED users, where if something does malfunction, the remedy may be readily applied by some means unbeknownst to a lesser user. Please heed my WARNING fellow RU-vidrs. 🤚😖👎 P.S. Mr Titus unashamedly shows potential novice computer users how to edit the registry, which is basically the computer's DNA. Once again, I urge caution in tampering in this area, where changes are made on the fly without an Undo function.⚠️

Sir, your facetious recommendations are worthy of trying, which makes much more sense than the ill-fated advice of Mr Titus. I was initially tempted to try to clean my Windows installation but when I saw the manner in which he went about it without further explanation of what was eventually going to be permanently removed as well as meddling with the Registry, I immediately re-evaluated my decision and left well enough alone. This does work. I did have to reinstall my Book Baazar ebook reader and a Solitare software. But that was no sweat. Personally I used Glary Utilities to see what tasks are scheduled. I have been into regedit a time or 2 and a single mistake there can cause you days of grief and frustration. But overall, very good stuff. Agree his intro should not say we are not going to download anything when that is the first thing he did. But it does work, and it certainly cleans out the start area. So 15 min of time spent putting the stuff you want there is time well spent. Just find an app, right click, pin to start. If you use it a lot once in start you can right click again, more, pin to taskbar. Two thumbs up for me, have one more slow puter to do today, my wifes. We will see how bad the damage is.

Windows 10 works great on my (partly) 10 year old computer. I spend only a few minutes removing unwanted stuff now and then. In my opinion this is the best and easiest OS to use out of the box (clean install). Microsoft has thousands of engineers working on this thing and it shows.
