I'm going to try Ubuntu only because it seems like the most popular (the one i've actually heard of), i'm putting it on a mini pc, wish me luck, only ever used Windows but am getting into IT so i want to know more OS's
I'd like to be able to get rid of everything and just have an Android phone which can dock to a large monitor, external keyboard & mouse when necessary.
It's not abusing the FreeBSD because as stated in the license, Corpos are allowed to do what they want with the OS. That's why many are onboard with Linux instead of BSD. The logic behind the BSD license is so broken and outdated that the relevancy of the OS itself is completely null
Last year I started looking into Linux, and thought ... no, too confusing, too much fiddling. Today I am looking at every single thing I can find on Linux distros and prepping to switch no matter how tricky, confusing, or fiddly (is that a word?) Linux Mint for starters. I am even willing to dump a couple of major CGI apps I use to escape Microsoft forever.
Man... I gotta say putting Manjaro at the bottom just immediately made me not like this video. Like, I understand the rational behind this video which is more or less saying "There are too many Linux distros" and I ~kinda~ agree, however installing straight Arch sucks IMO. I've done it, it worked, but it worked pretty poorly in the cinnamon desktop environment and I wasn't going to spend 2 weeks configuring stuff just so I can get to the same place Manjaro starts at after initial install. There is really no reason to set up Arch from scratch anymore then once, just to understand how to unbrick your computer when you screw things up. After that, just use a per-set Arch clone like Manjaro or Endeavor OS because everything just works and you won't be wasting 5 hours trying to figure out how to get click and drag to work. Calling these distros pointless is basically telling me you don't understand what the end user needs or don't care if they waste a huge amounts of time tinkering with Linux unnecessarily. TL;DR This tier list sucks.
Chris, please tell the people .. this is not a product FOR consumers.. it is to CONSUME our data and continue the same old story... $$$$ .. this is going to be turned on by default in ALL enterprise deployments.. and allow corps the power to work with MSFT to essentially train AI models to attempt to replace workers in ALL tasks.. a banks dream
It doesnt matter whether you store all those screenshots locally or remotely, no one can guarantee its security. And that's a lot of screenshots for someone elses AI to sift through. Just sayin!
Chris, what is your solid opinion on Windows 11 Pro for Worksations? What types of systems would gain from installing it? Does it perform better than Win11 Pro on good hardware?
i don't like you Chris Titus .... You sound like a very arrogant person, trying to hide how he really is . i'm not saying you are a bad guy, but i don't think you are good either, cheeky bastard .
It's going to run a generative AI locally in the background... Nope, that's being done remotely without question. I'm sure they'll swear up and down how safe, isolated, and secure they've made it to send GB of what is essentially stop motion video of your desktop to their remote servers but I do not believe them for a second that it's all being handled locally. It may very well store images locally until it's ready to bulk upload, but anything that's not the most basic of basic of scanning is far too resource intensive
Hi, out of curiosity, is it okay to use this utility over a not so fresh installed windows system? I have already setup my working PC and it seems to be a hassle if I reinstall windows again and set it up again. And is it also okay to use this again if I already use this utility before?
You say: Oh, I can disable it. Let me remind you of Microsoft re-installing Teams by the means of a background installer malware. Yeah, I can de-install Teams, but then it appeared again and again ... until I found the background demon doing that and removed that, too. Also, MS keeps ignoring Registry switches and policy.
Hey Chris, could you do another video explaining extensively how to tile windows using glazewm. I'm trying to tile my windows in a grid format but have no clue how to do that.
Even if Microsoft runs back on this at all, I'm still dipping out. Any attempt to improve this situation or back out on this situation will absolutely only be temporary - they are a publicly traded company. The investors will want it. It will happen. Even if you disable it, you'll get an update, and it'll be enabled again. You'll try to stay on top of it, and then you'll miss it one time. It'll be hidden in menus, and eventually you'll have to dig into the registry to disable it. An update will enable it again. I do NOT want my computer experience to be me constantly going to try to rip recall out. My future plans solidly include switching to Linux as a daily driver and only dual booting into Windows as required for certain features and games that I can't get running the way I want in Linux. I've been running various tests and trial runs on different Linux distributions, making a list of everything I want to be able to do, seeing what options I have. Truth be told, it's all been quite easy so far. Not completely flawless, but not anywhere close to dealbreakers. He said "this is my computer, this is my recall" yet I don't believe it at all.
I'm not an Apple user nor a fan of it , but let's be honest, infrared camera for face unlock is way better than fingerprint but there's no reason to remove any of them (face unlock or fingerprint scanner)
i used to flash custom roms / root my devices ten years ago, nowadays imho its useless and annoying, stock roms got better and i dont want to fiddle around now and then because gpay or whatever doesnt work anymore after some update broke magisk module xyz. no, thanks. i want my device to just work.
I’m sorry, I think the functionality is awesome. For the average home user, I can understand why they couldn’t care less but from a corporate productivity perspective it’s going to be brilliant. People trust Google and Apple on their smartphones and if there is any company I wouldn’t trust it’s Google. On my work machine I do work tasks, whereas my smartphone contains sensitive personal data that I’m more concerned about. . The main issue is security, I’ll wait for the finished product before I past judgement. It’s a bit of a joke imo to say that you don’t trust Microsoft when most of the internet runs on Azure and AWS.
