Excellent that you mentioned the safety check at the end. Probably a highly overlooked part of the process. A good straightforward video.

Thank you. Have weapons been stored for some time. Time to maintain a neglected but most comforting peace of mind. Times are a changing.

One of the best video on the 1911. Nobody else talks about how much better the brass brush is. I do periodically remove the firing pin and extractor just to make sure they are clean and not wet. Mine is a true Colt Government issue. May be a collector's item but I shoot it anyway!

Same. It was my great uncles sidearm issued during ww2. Nice piece and I take it to the range.

Question on reassembly. I have seen a few different videos and some people do not but the guide rod up against the barrel link on reassembly…does this matter? I was worried that maybe the guide rod doesn’t naturally but up against barrel link during operation. Someone put in their video that it should stay on “small part of barrel” and not ride up onto the larger breach part.

Very good cleaning video. Like your work bench desk. Well organized. My cleaning procedures with my 1911s is similar to yours. The only difference is I use Break free CLP instead of Hoppes #9, for cleaning. I like a thinly applied light grease, (Enos Slide Glide) on the frame and slide rails, which helps prevent wear and galling. Oil on the rails work fine, but dries quickly. The grease lasts a long time and stays there. Works well on my Sig Sauer P229 rails, too.

If it rotates, oil. If it slides, grease.

HI should i clean it before i shoot a new gun or just drop some lube inside the bolt before i fire it. thats what i plan to do just you use some clp for lubrication on my fist fire.

I've seen it done both ways. My new pistol had a "long term storage" oil on it and was quite stiff. Manual said to remove this protective oil then clean and use regular before firing first shots. I've made this a habit now, as it seems to run smoothly during break-in and there are no malfunctions like sticky strikers or firing pins. Just my 2 cents worth

You look just like Ernest Langdon, but Stick to Berettas’ because that recoil spring is backwards 🤣 1:11

I can’t tell from video, but if it is it came out backwards. That may not be his gun…

Great video but you left out the most important first step: "PUT ON YOUR SAFETY GLASSES." When that recoil spring gets away from you during either disassembly or re-assembly, there is a very real possibility of it taking out an eye. I can't tell you how many times safety glasses saved my eyeballs when cleaning my 1911.

If you're doing it right, the muzzle should not be pointing at your face when removing the recoil spring which is the one that can cause some harm.
@Thatguy-uk4ue

U should never point the muzzle towards ur face ever
@markfabre7682
@markfabre7682 9 месяцев назад
I can tell by the comments that some people have never actually reassembled a 1911. No, you don't point the muzzle at your face during reassembly. The recoil spring is compressed under the recoil spring plug. While holding it in compression, you have to rotate the barrel bushing tab over spring plug. You have to be looking at the barrel bushing while you perform this step. You cannot do it by feel. If you fail to rotate the barrel bushing successfully, the spring plug and spring will be violently ejected. The direction of the spring ejection is unpredictable. I have had mine eject at a 60-degree angle to the muzzle direction to hit me in the face at least once.

If you need to be told to unload your gun before working on it. You absolutely should not own a firearm, nor should you even have one in your hands. In fact you have no need to be watching this video

I throw the whole gun in a ultra sonic cleaner when I get it out I dip it in motor oil and let it drip dry.Then I put it in a Ziploc bag until get ready to shoot it 2000 more rounds before I clean it.Im lazy a I don't give a shit...I have never field stripped the gun it's just a cheap SDS imports army.Never had a problem 23,000 rounds later.I think all that cleaning stuff your using is made to catch the fisherman and not the fish.409 household and left over motor oil.

What brand ultrasonic cleaner do you use? Do you keep the chamber open? Do you dry it before dunking in oil?

*THIS WAS A GOOD VIDEO - BRAVO!!!!!!!* I DO LIKE THAT YOU CLEANED THE CHAMBER TOO!!! BUT MAY I SUGGEST A CHAMBER CLEANING TOOL (HANDLE AND BRUSH) FROM WILSON'S COMBAT STORE - IT IS THE CORRECT SIZE FOR THE CHAMBER AND DOES A REAL GOOD JOB OF CLEANING THE CHAMBER!!! A REALLY CLEAN CHAMBER WILL AID IN FEEDING A NEW ROUND AND THE EXTRACTION OF THE HULL/BRASS!!! AGAIN, GOOD VIDEO, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
