For this week’s Tidbit Barb and I are in Sedona playing with our Gel Plate. For all the years that I have taught you to clean your plate with packing tape…. this is better!! You cannot use packing tape in your art work because it’s plastic, it won’t glue down, and it’s just going to turn yellow. NOW we have Joggles acid free Sticky Stuff in sheets and various widths on a roll. It’s self adhesive, double sided, easy to use, and it pulls ALL the paint of the plate. You can cut your sheet of Sticky Stuff into shapes-you can tear it, the creative possibilities are endless! Strips of Sticky Stuff make fabulous colorful tape that stays suck! check it out as Barb and I show you two ways to create colorful patterns on this versatile adhesive.

I've been wondering for weeks what you two crazy kids were going to demo in this video. The process of designing "washi tape" in any size or color/pattern of your choice is wicked cool!! I currently have sticky stuff in only the 1/4" size, but will include several sheets in my next order and cut to whatever size I need. 😊

Brilliant idea! I usually like the grunge left on my gel plates, but when I want to get them completely clean I use packing tape. Those tapes were cool, but I didn't know how to use them. Sticky stuff is brilliant (and I have it in a 2" width). Thanks to your student for sharing this great idea!

This is so cool andI can't wait to try it! When I use clear packing tape to clean up my plate, I get a roll of double faced tape that is the same width as my packing tape and I apply that to the painted side. (It's a little bit fiddly but once you get the hang of it it's easy) The effect is different because, as the paint is seen through the packing tape it is shiny. So not so good for collages (unless you want that effect, but it makes really nice stickers) . Also the pattern you get is what you see on the plate and not the underside.

Since packing tape is not archival, I don’t use it in my art. But your process sounds like fun!
