Nice job guys, I do this in Delaware and Maryland here on the Eastern Shore. My wife’s family goes back to the 1600’s here and I go out and find out where her ancestors are and try to clean the stones up it’s pretty fun and rewarding.
Hello, fellow Eastern Shore-er!! I’ve cleaned about 30 headstones, usually while attending cemetery preservation workshops. My family is mostly from Somerset County; I’ve only gotten back to around the early 1800’s with my family here on the shore.
@@crusmonster1397, here family has lived in Somerset county while coming up here though the years. It is fun to do. See how they moved from the Eastern Shore of Va. to here. Her Long name came from the northern part of Delmarva. Some of these cemeteries over here are so deep in woods hard to find them. But fun.
Thanks so much for caring about these people's headstones. It takes the living to continue to care for the deceased!! Keep up the great work Robert and Other Robert!! Side note, thanks for showing old military headstones!! As a former military member, it means a lot. And I hope when I do go, someone will continue to keep my headstone looking great!
Dang Nab it ! You all have to be the "bestis" collections of Robert's ever! Georgia and this Country are blessed to have you guys for the abandoned and neglected cemeteries in many rural area's of the Peach State! They are the sweetest peaches ever! LOL Ha Ha This ol Damn Yankee is safe making these smart ass comments up here in the great state of Maryland. Bless you guys, what you do is hard work and we appreciate it!
I am so very very impressed with what y’all do in trying to clean up and restore these old headstones thus trying to honor their memory. God bless you!!
I have a suggestion for you gents, you need a easier way to haul your supplies and more especially in the grounds that are better kept, I have found a wagon works well, there are folding camping supply haulers that work well too. Have hauled plenty on them doing re-enactment events.
Appreciate the info. on D-2. I ordered a quart-sized bottle and it really isn't cheap. Robert was right about that. However ,seeing the results of this stuff I figured is a small price to pay to get my wife's dad headstone cleaned up. It's right at the base of a wooded area and been there since 1971, so you could imagine. Thanks Robert and the other Robert!
I just cleaned family stones in WV. I cleaned them twice, sprayed and had to come back home. Stones I cleaned last year are white! The granite stones are spotlessly clean. I gave them an additional spray for maintenance. ❤. Thank you both for this preservation!!
That D2 is some great stuff. I’m so pleased the two of you did this. It’s to bad others couldn’t see how important that this. Love you both for your care. ♥️♥️😊👍🌟🌟
You guys really need to contact D-2 for a sponsorship, they probably aren’t even scouting for this sort of marketing since it’s kind of a niche product so you may have to contact them first for sure. Just scrolling through the comments there are a lot of people asking where to buy it and some already have despite its high price tag. Also now maybe a lot more stones will be getting cleaned since people have the knowledge to do safely. Very cool guys. I grew up in SW VA and actually lived in an early 1900s small apt building that literally hadn’t been touched other than the bare min to keep things working and upright lol. (The repair guys had to scavenge for radiator parts cuz they aren’t made anymore lol). But it was literally right across the street from an equally as old cemetery which was beautiful to take walks in. All that’s to say is VA has some really neat stuff in the rural parts, I’ve been to many abandoned structure in the woods there lol. If y’all ever decide to head a little north for some reason. I’m in Florida now and I do miss “real” woods and exploring lol. Although some of the woods down here have a nice majestic feeling. It isn’t the same though.
This is how I first saw you guys doing the cemeteries cleaning them and what you doing now and I said you guys are so awesome as they said so many times before You do not let the past die you keep history going and you let these people live and name You haven't forgotten them by letting them stay in cemetery better horrible falling apart it can't even find the grave sometimes me being a born again Christian I realize it doesn't really matter to those that have gone on they're gone and if they have no family there's no one to care except it's the fact that they're not in a dilapidated cemetery that is actually beautiful when you guys get through and the cleaning of the two stones is amazing bad company should give you free everything with the free publicity you give them cuz that stuff is incredible how it cleans them. You guys a true preservationist . In your hearts are so huge. people should understand You can't where the history die or like now they're trying to change history wipe it out so it fits the way the liberals want it to be not the truth cuz they don't like it doesn't matter history is good or bad it's history and you don't bury it excuse the pun you know get rid of it you keep it there for people to always know it and see it. ✝️♾️🛐❤️LOL
I'm thinking the other Robert should have read the fine print on that contract. That looks like a beautiful stone and I'll be waiting to see a closeup when he goes back.
If you contact the manufacturer of D2 and refer them to this and the last video, they may sponsor you. I have friends who have RU-vid channels and that's the surest way they got either sponsorship or discounts on products
Keep your eyes peeled for a fire extinguisher p-can. Fill it with water and pressurize it for low output. We got a few of them at a local extinguisher business who were basically giving them away. They're very useful when no hose water is available.
❤ I just love all of your videos and on this video War you and the other Robert is cleaning the headstone I am looking forward to the new video of the tombstone in two weeks Robert you have a very good Channel keep up the good work I enjoy watching everything that you put out there, from Morristown East Tennessee
Great job! I use D2 in our local historical cemeteries in Portland and Vancouver. It was a gighof 45 today and this makes me want to get to the cemetery! I am waiting a few more weeks!
Just a reminder... when you are cleaning the stone with D2 keep the stone moist as your scribbling it, water is essential... I let D2 work for 15 mins before I start, if growth is heavy I will clean with water before applying D2.
Great work & info. Though I'd want to put the product into the same type of sprayer you're using for the water for a better spray & easier trigger to use! 😅
Up in north Missouri, in Old Scotland Cemetery in Gallatin, is where a whole bunch of my Mom's family is buried. There are many old tombstones that could use this process.
I just saw a tip for reading old tombstones. Rub shaving cream all over the words on the stone and you can read every word. It is amazing how it works. They washed the shaving cream off with water in a spray bottle. Please try it on some of those old ones that you can't read. I hope this helps you as you discover more cemetaries.
I’ve been using D2 for a number of years, in Missouri, Kansas, & now in my retirement area in Florida. Although I’ve used it full strength, occasionally I use it in a 50/50 mixture with water. If you are looking for instant gratification, then by all means use D2 full strength, but since cemeteries aren’t going anywhere, just consider half strength, to expand your D2 Biological Solution to other monuments in a cemetery.
I have used tons of D2 and never killed grass until recently. In one cemetery they have a very unusual grass, which I am not sure what kind it is, but I burnt it. It’s very superficial, but I still did. Nowhere else have I ever hurt anything with D2.
There a photos on Find A Grave of my grandparents graves and that of an aunt and uncle. I was sad seeing the dark stain on the stones. I think I’m going to take a road trip with some D/2!
CLEANING 100+ YEAR OLD HEADSTONES AND FINDING A LOST FRIEND'S GRAVE FOR A STRANGER! USING D2 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f9KHMm1mYOU.html
I saw an old picture from the 1800s, of some people standing behind some graves. The gravestones were white. I was wondering about that till i just saw this. So, originally, the gravestones were all white?
What are the long term effects of D/2 on the stone and environment? you said that it removes a little bit of the stone, wouldn't that be an issue with enough repeated use on a stone?
I Did Rock Work And Cut Head Stone's On The Side For a Long Time. I Recall Geting Phone Call's Saying Can You Fix My Head Stone. I'd Say What Did You Do. O O O Oh Just Cleaning it. 😎👍✌.
Here’s where the NPS and most other headstone preservation authorities stand on that - ncptt.nps.gov/blog/shaving-creamgenealogists-friend-or-cemetery-conservators-foe/ In other words, it’s a bad idea. It is also a situation of why risk it, when most can be read with light etc
