Many thanks JTBear. I've been cleaning my pond filter for about 5 years and never knew I had to get so far into the mechanism. About to try it, with hope!
Thanks. I was squeezing the sides as someone else said but your instructions were better, putting a nail under and levered off easily. I had some fine grass like stuff wrapped around the spindle which I could tweezer off. Fingers crossed.
Thanks for the video. I have a smart-pond pump. It is new. I have cleaned it. (It wasn't dirty) I have run warm water through it (recommended by their help desk). It will run normally until I unplug the power. When I plug the power in again (after one minute, I'm changing outlets) it won't run. Also the impeller seems loose on the shaft, it rotates about 270 degrees before it engages the shaft, These intermittent symptoms are a bear. The fountain parts are heavy concrete so I'm reluctant to disassemble it. What am I missing?
That sounds frustrating, sadly I can't help as I'm still enjoying this old laguna pump but I would be inclined to replace the pump with something that doesn't care which plug it's in ... Good luck!
Great post! I've had to remove and clean my pump a few times in the last 18 months but I'm still using the same pump since I started the system. Kind of funny but the way I found out my tilapia had babies was I was looking into a screen I have on the inlet part of my grow beds (using a plastic folgers container and a paint filter) and saw the little fry swimming around in there. They must have gone all the way through the pump!
truelifeandfiction Ha! Well, I guess they would be small enough to survive it ... I thought that tilapia were mouthbrooders? Maybe she spit them into it?! ;) Good thing you found them! Thanks for watching!
Tough call, is it possible to order a new pin or is the glue your only option? If you can get that sucker straight again, glue might do the trick but I wouldn't expect it to last too long and would personally be looking for a replacement pump ...
Thanks. There ended up being enough of the pin to allow it to spin. Agreed, will definitely be looking for a replacement. Loews gives me a military discount still, so that will be where I look.
