I'm in the CBA camp ... until I start getting that horrible muck on my clothes/hands if I brush against the car. It's nice to see your car all shiny, but not worth this much palaver. Thought you were going to say it's only a few mins here & a few there, done in under an hour - takes me way longer! Glad you were honest with the 3hrs all that would certainly take. I'd probably have to split that over a few days!! Don't have enough life-force for that!
I'm in the just leave it I don't care camp. We live in a rural area where the car is used daily on muddy roads. It is an impossible task to try and keep it clean.
I like washing my car, but I am with you on that UK roads are now run down, full of mad, dirt, sand and dead leaves. Detailing lasts for 10min of driving at most. The only thing that might make sense is wrapping the car but this costs up to 1000. Lived in Germany, a car stays clean for at least a few days of summer driving over there. In the UK, my car is getting dirty even by standing on a driveway during summer 😂
Great content as ever and some really decent tips. 'However' those laminated product pouches, whilst appearing to be a more eco friendly option, cannot be easily recycled. Some councils can recycle them but the majority cannot. Almost all plastic bottles (like the small jerry can shown) are fully recyclable.
Great video, many thanks. Thank goodness you had a garage in which you could do most of this. Couldn't find the links on my phone, so I'll try again on a PC.
love cleaning cars, but have never used clay bar. When doing it how often do you have to re-mould and flatten the clay and how how grubby do you leave it before you chuck it and get some more? Thanks!
I liked cleaning the car more when I was younger and had more idle time 😊 Picked up some good tips there, use the snow foam and jet wash it off and often find there is still dirt on the surface which sponge just seems to move around. Will try the brushes.
Looks great. I'm of the like to drive a clean shiny car but not keen on getting the stuff out to do it. That said, once I'm into it, I find it quite therapeutic and satisfying.
I never really appreciated how much difference cleaning a car could make until we got our Leaf with the pearl white paint. I forgot how nice the colour was! Having said that, our white Smart car had it's annual clean last month and it made no difference, it looks dirty instantly. Our 4X4s rarely get cleaned, they look better dirty imo
Great video, nice to see how it’s done properly, I pressure wash first, then use car wash and wax in bucket, then use a soft car brush with long handle to wash the car then pressure wash off. I did put some armorall wax on, and window clean. Will look at your stuff to use 👍
There’s something very satisfying watching you clean a car - I feel like I've achieved something…. Do you recommend spraying the instrument binnacle with cleaner - I’ve seen the plastic discoloured or smeared and it’s impossible to wipe off. I usually just give it a light dust with a dry cloth.
I hate cleaning cars, and I could live with it when I had grey paint but now I drive a white Tesla Model Y… I really need to clean it as it’s now brown and covered in salt/skitt. Definitely need to take some lessons from this video 😅
I think I'd like a clean car but by the time I've driven it up the farm track we live on it would be dirty again... so I only really clean it when it starts to go green... Maybe if I clean it properly once it'll take longer to go green... 🤨
Great video Andy, I like your pressure washer set up ( seen on another of your videos) as it’s ‘ready to go’ that’s the key thing having it already plumbed in and connected imo. Did you drill a hole in the wall (for pipe ) through to utility room behind garage?
I’d prefer to buy the plastic bottle, is it can be easily recycled. Whereas the pouch, although it may have a ‘recycle me’ logo in the blurb. They tend to be too expensive to economically recycle. And in all probability either be incinerated or dumped in landfill. Depends on the local authority and their recycling contracts. I’m in the middle camp. But I have a friend who thinks car cleaning is a waste of time, money and resources. But then she can afford to replace her car every five years. Buys new or nearly new and after five years, the car looks absolutely awful and it’s worth not much. I guess her time is more important than saving money.
Hi love the channel, looking for some advice, I've owned an EV for nearly 8 years now but only Zoe's. I am in the last year of my PCP and was going to buy it outright but the balloon payment is a lot more than I can get a new er one, so I will just hand it back ..the question is , I have recently started takeaway deliveries and using the Zoe makes it worth while , so I'm in a dilemma, I have 11500 to spend on a EV to do deliveries so the seat mii is a great choice but Zoe's are going for about the same money as the miis,is there that much difference in KW per mile between the 2 , the range is fine on both because I only ever do about 50 to 80 a day when I work. I've been getting around 3.5 in the Zoe ( doing deliveries) driving it on the heavy footed side and it is in winter so I know it will go up from that when it gets warmer, do you think the mii will be any or a lot better thanks Trevor
Ha!.... I'm in the 'buy a car which is a metallic gunmetal/grey/black colour palette, with black alloys. That way the filth blends with the paint..... and you only need to wash the car twice a year.....!!!!!' category...... .... As for the interior..... Shake the mats occasionally - and don't EAT in the car.......!!!
@@colinphillipson4830 Didn’t do the engine bay either, it was designed as a quick and easy way, not a flawless detail. Can use the same method on the pedals as the rest so it’s up to the person doing it now. Method was my only constraint.
21:04 no 🧤 advice. now you have those fluorides (or whatever similar) on your skin and therefore in bloodstream.👏 would be good to advise noobs better...💡
@@ElectricVehicleMan docs would disagree with you. hear one in podcast: EC Details: 'Prioritizing Well-being: Exploring the Vital Role of Health in Detailing ft. Dr. Rick' 👌
10:52 WHY?! 🤌 when we now has competing RINSELESS products which can be used also for pre-soak, paired with APC? a no-jet-washed-required solution! i'm sure any Yorkshireman and/or (up to) half of UK households (without driveway/garage, therefore also less likely with access to hose & power), would appreciate...
Really informative video, thanks for sharing the tips, nice to see how to use clay bar, I've always wondered about using one but haven't been sure when and how!
I really want to be one of those guys that takes pride in washing his car, but tbh I just can't be arsed most of the time. Once every 6 months or so I'll snow foam, jet wash and shampoo. Then after 5 minutes it's covered in bird sh*t again.
Thanks Andy...some questions just wondering you didn't show it but there was a comment when you were inside the garage about using clay and sounded like you did on the windows is that correct? Also what type of brushes are they, just like paint brushes you use? Is it safe to brush inbetween all the buttons and nobs in the car with the wet brush before you dry it off? Didn't know you could put the car mats in the washing machine but if you had a dryer could you dry the mats that way or is it better to hang them out to dry? I assume that clay bar you used you can buy at any car shop that sells car cleaning products? Could you use the foaming snow as you called it with just a regular hose or does it need the jetwash? Waxing the car at the end could you use a electric buffer or is it just as fast doing it by hand like you did?
Hope these answers help, but you're entering a big old rabbit hole here. Forget clay (you need to polish after) and just get some Fallout Remover (Autoglym Magma). Look up Autobrite Direct brush set. Varying brushes have different levels of softness so you don't damage anything. Also, a Scrubber Dubber is way quicker easier and more effective than his method of interior cleaning. Autoglym interior cleaner is lovely and foamy so around buttons his method is perfect. Don't know about drying the mats. Snowfoam softens dirt and you need to blast it off. Hose will not work effectively. Wax is done by hand. However, look at a spray wax (autoglym ceramic spray). Far quicker and easier for a novice. If you've gone to the expense of a snow foam cannon, get something like Autoglym Polar Seal. Spray on, rinse off. Bloody amazing stuff. Halfords is as good as anywhere for Autoglym products and loads of microfiber cloths, buckets etc. Autoglym are easily accessible, high quality and very easy for a novice to use (many products have application issues, AG don't). If you don't have a pressure washer, just go to a jet wash to blast most of the crap off, then go home and hand wash. Oh, and watch a ton of YT videos and go on the detailing world website before buying anything as I've only scraped the surface! your wallet is gonna take an absolute battering! I love it! If you decide all this is way too much like hassle, just do the interior! Get a scrubber pad and clean the steering wheel. Hope this helped a tiny bit
Clay? never heard of that. Any more information? Is it a special product? Thanks for the video - the detailing brush is the thing I have been missing all these years, I live down country lanes so i just have to accept the winter mud pack unless I literally wash the car after every journey!
A bit off topic, but talking of refilling. You used to be able to get a refill for Nescafe Alta Rica coffee a few years ago. Now I can't find it anywhere so had to go back to buying glass jars. Just saying
Excellent video, I am a firm believer in the shark skin effect. i.e. a think layer of dirt allows the air to be trapped and air passing over air is much more effective. (like a golf ball). The Mii looks great when shiny though..
I was always told that using a hi pressure jet washer on car panels was a sure way of gradually removing the layers of paint, due to the sheer power of the jet of water. If using at all, I was told you must spray at an angle, never directly at the bodywork. Perhaps I've been mislead, but I think I'll give it a miss.
Could you do a guide to cleaning cloth car seats at some point? I am a bit scared to use these spray on foam cleaners, and I'm not sure how effective they really are anyway.
for cleaning cloth seats i would recomend a carpet cleaning machine, they work great but they are kind off expensive but you can usualy rent one for a day or two. ru-vid.comxlgWoIZ8KqQ
@ElectricVehicleMan I use to have a VW e-up and tried charging on a BP pulse 150kw charger. Returned message not compatible with this charger. Only asked this question as they are changing all the 50kw chargers to 150kw.
