Cleaning a Cookpot Backpacking 

Bobby Harper I recall this from before. I've learnt a lot from Shug's videos and take his insights to heart, but I absolutely cannot bring myself to do this.

***** and I've bee mm using charcoal or beach sand all these years to clean the inside and outside of my pans. Of course I've also been putting liquid soap on the outside of my pots and pans before using the campfire to cook...makes them soooo easy to clean afterwards.

In Scouts, back in the 60s, we were taught to use the shaving cream/soap that came in a tube to coat our pots -- don't know if it is still available, but it was easy to carry a tube and apply. Worked very well. But such methods do end up putting some soap into the environment.

Random Button Pusher we used old ivory soap pieces that would have been thrown out. We put the pieces in a jar of water and let it form a jell...that worked slicker than snot on pots...now we use Dawn and as little as it takes and the fact it biodegrades quickly is even better. But, you always put your wash water in either a grease pit away from camp or on the cathole before final burial to give it a chance to degrade.

Rory Lee I like a big mel. Used a smaller pot for a while and it was always spilling out. Plus I boil my coffee or cocoa water at the same time. Pot is very light.
