Periodically you will need to clean your salt cell of calcium deposits. Though most cells with polarity reversing do a good job repelling most of the deposits from their fins, at least annually you will need to check your your cell and clean it. This video will show just how to clean your cell.

Handling muriatic acid without gloves like a boss.

The scaling is normal calcium buildup, it leaches out from the pool plaster and sticks to the metal plates during electrolysis. More so in new pools.... like every 3 months or so.

That is the same exact acid tht the pool guys use to clean the salt cell!!!!!!!!!!!! what a coincidence :D

Once a year? My Hayward manual says every 3 months.

As needed. A good system will reverse polarity and clean itself to an extent. Once a year is a good number for most. Good thing to do as part of closing.

@@LuxuryPoolsandLiving Ahh ok. I’m in FL so we don’t close our pools, which would mean more frequent cleaning of salt cell.

Shoot I'm cleaning mine up for the first time since we put the pool in 5 years ago. It's got all kinds of scaliness in it 😂😂

What happens of you don’t add water but just fill the cell with just acid?

You risk killing your salt cell. Full strength acid is too much.

Using muriatic acid at full strength (20° Bé) for cleaning salt cells can be detrimental because it can accelerate the wear of the titanium plates and their catalytic layers of ruthenium or iridium, which are crucial for efficient electrolysis. Even when diluted properly, leaving the solution in the cell for too long can stress these components unnecessarily, and potentially even damage them. This is why the in the video he stops the cleaning process as soon as the gassing subsides. 👍

While it's bubbling, probably not a good idea to hover near the cell as the gases are not that great for a human.

If the purpose is to help homeowners take care of their own stuff, it's totally irresponsible to put a video up like this, which implies there's no danger at all when using muriatic acid. No gloves, no eye protection. Average person wouldn't assume there was a difference in adding water to acid instead of acid to water. I rarely comment on videos but this should be taken down.

Is that plug custom or just any pvc stopper?

Thats a clean out plug. Off the shelf. Any plug will work. Expansion would be fine as well.

@@joesafishinIf it's 35% HCl trust me, you don't want ANY part of it in your eyes. I really don't think it was though because normally it fumes off heavily. He must have bought a pre-diluted gallon.🤷

Muriatic Acid, not muratic. If you are going to be an expert say it properly.
