Actually the 2 most common today are Phosphorous Bronze (PB) washers and caged ceramic ball bearing washers. When ball bearings were first used, they were not caged in a washer. My Arno Bernard iMamba and my Tactile Knife Company Rockwall flipper had free ceramic ball bearings. They are harder to work with and easier to loose. Kershaw started to cage their in nylon, others used/use Teflon plastic, and then others would crimp their PB washers around the ceramic balls. A more modern use is a fully caged washer with no opening on a side to keep debris and dirt out. Skiff washers do this but most knife manufactures who do not use PB washers, with have them caged with one side open. They are incredibly common today and many prefer them. There are advantages and disadvantages to them. PB washers have a less chance of dirt/debris getting into them like ceramic or steel ball bearings caged in a washer do. If you work around metal machine, fabrication, particularly dusty, sandy, etc. areas, PB will likely be a better choice. I prefer Skiffs because they are made so well and typically outperform manufacturer washers.

This is unusual to have washers and bearings together, right? Or I got it all wrong 😂

Well the steel washers are so that the bearings aren’t running directly on the titanium
