Honestly wasn't expecting to learn nearly as much as I did from this. I always assumed that pools (with circulating water) have some sort of filtration system, but had never seen anything about how it actually works or is maintained until now. Neat!

A beautiful pool, but very dangerous with small children. Especially right at the entrance to the house. The cover at the edge doesn't catch a child falling in and if the child gets under the cover you can't see it either. It would be best to put a safety fence around it. Because of the cartridge filter, a sand filter makes less work, even better is a filling with glass instead of sand. Sand has to be replaced every two years, glass not at all.

Bjørn, I will give you some advice. My son was always crying as a baby and had to be carried all the time, it almost became a track in the floor. Then I got a tip about just leave him to cry in his bed. Wait 5 minutes, then go in to cuddle and calm him. Gradually extend the time over a few days. It was hard to do, but it worked. He eventually calmed down and slept in his bed after that. Worth trying!

As someone who has had an outdoor pool in Norway for some years it's great to see you learning your pool skills :) I am having a new cover installed soon and my experience has also lead me away from a glass cover but I have gone for a cover that covers the whole pool without letting rain water through. It makes life easier in the end. However your cover is very popular these days. Just to confirm I have used my pool in -1C so 10C will be fine.

You might want to consider to connect the system to the sewage. That way you can automatically flush out a the surplus of water after heavy rainfall. And if you install a proper sand filter, you can also backflush that filter into the sewage (instead of taking the filter cartridge out and manually cleaning it).

This is very dangerous Bjorn! Think about it if a child falls into the water in the big gap next to the cover "drum" and gets under the cover. How do you get the child out quickly? I would urgently come up with something for this so that neither children nor animals can fall in there. 👍🙏

Don´t worry about the pool, you are doing fine and it increases the total value of the house, maybe it can even make some money as a electric heat sink, about the blinds for your house , I live in Spain and some houses use "primitive" wooden or bambu rolling blinds and it looks fine and it is supercheap. Maybe as a medium term solution you could also put a pergola on both sides of the pool windows. Thats all, thank you for your programs, Greetings to you and your family!!!

5:26 that dirt/sand/dust comes mostly from rain, rain picks up any dust in the air and then accumulates in pool (don't know if you get any sahara sand up in norway, but in south/centra europe is very common recently). especially annoying when after rain your whole car looks like you've been in desert

Hello, I have had a pool for 4 years. I assume you have a sand filter for your pool, and when you backwash it, you can run it in a mode that drains water from the pool so you don’t need to use a separate pump from Biltema. The other thing I thought of is that you shouldn’t shock chlorinate the pool when the salt chlorinator isn’t working. Use long-acting chlorine tablets in the skimmer.
@andyjdhurley
@andyjdhurley Месяц назад
I never had a salt chlorinator but I agree that long-acting chlorine tablets in the skimmer basket are by far the simplest way to get the levels right. And don't use shock chlorine unless things have gone badly wrong (algae bloom) as it takes quite a while for the levels to come back down to a safe swimming level. I tended to only use that when opening up the pool in the spring and putting it to bed in the winter.
@topgunm
@topgunm Месяц назад
You select backwash to clean the sand filter. You don't want to use it to drain water from your pool. To drain water you set it to "waste".

@@topgunmits a cartridge filter so no backwash
@givemethejob3293
@givemethejob3293 Месяц назад
@@andyjdhurleywrong packaged chlorine tablets/shock etc contain chlorine stabiliser (CYA) this builds up in the pool and will lead to problems as the chlorine wont be sufficient to sanitise the water. The CYA tempers down the chlorine.
