Cleaning car parts with OVEN CLEANER??? 

Just added this to the FB forum but thought I’d add it here too. Use Mr Muscle oven cleaner to strip the sticky black goo from your centre console of a late MGF. Spray it on, leave for a couple of hours and wipe off with a scotch brite or pan scrub. Refinish with Plasti Dip spray which is the same as original. Do again in 20 years. Enjoying your channel Lee.

Hi Lee, I've enjoyed your videos, its nice to see I'm not the only one who struggles with a TF, I've done very similar jobs to mine. for me the rear subframe mounts near the bulkhead were the biggest pain, snapped one bolt off and stripped the thread on another, I ended up cutting the mount and fitting new retaining nuts and welding them back up, both front and back are all stainless now.

I’ve used Milton steriliser tablets for the inside in the past and they’re very effective.

Great video! Oven cleaners are based on sodium hydroxide (lye). You can sodium hydroxide very easily electrolysing salt dissolved in water (outside as it gives off chlorine gas which you do not want to breath.) Some commercial engine shops use hot baths containing concentrated sodium hydroxide as the first step in their cleaning process. They then use a hot citric acid bath to remove any oxidised matter left on the parts. 🙂

Great series Lee. Really enjoying it. I found the best thing to clean these kind of plastic tanks is actually a little bit of white spirit. My mgf had a terrible header tank after a hg failure (surprise surprise) tried dishwasher tabs with rice and all sorts to average effect, literally under a minute swilling through some white spirit did it effortlessly with no scrubbing or anything. Keep up the great work, getting close now !

I don’t know why the F/TF washer bottle get’s so gunky inside compared to other cars.
