i have my fur blaket and I washed with my pods 2 times, no damage or anything but I don think that is the best option. then I watched your video a couple of times and followed the instruction in your website and I have to say I LOVE IT. I don know why I did not do it earlier. I washed my the blanket and it turned out nice clean and soft. I was afraid of the smell of vinegar but NO, NOT AT ALL. no smell at all.

Yes! I am so happy that you tried this method. Vinegar is an amazing cleaner, and softener, for your basic laundry needs. I hope that more people will try it.

thank you so much for this video, I have a costume made out of Minky, and needed a way to wash it without damaging it and avoid getting mold on it.

This is great to hear. It is my passion to research "green " cleaning. Minky product are very durable and easy to clean. When I find new information I will post it here or on my "how to clean " page at www.BlanketsByBrian.com.

If I have a top load washer should I add all of the ingredients before I put the blanket in?

Yes. I would say that sounds right. You may have to play around with it and adjust accordingly.

Unfortunately, I already kinda ruined mime. It's not fluffy anymore.. Looks "crushed" on the faux fur top. Not as soft either..💔 I put it on cold, handwash. Dried it on "less heat".. Is there a way to bring it back to life? Never wash "fluffy" blankets together. Ever... They will leave so much fuzzy lint on both of them. (Now I have to get rid of the fuzziness on each of them somehow) tried a sticky roller, a fresh dryer sheet and re-wasing them separately to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. For the faux and the fuzzy blanket fiasco...

Hello. I am sorry to hear this, but I'm here to help. The first thing I will tell you is that all "MINIKY" (faux-fur & fuzzy) blankets are made the same. Most furry soft blankets you buy in major retailers are made of terrible and cheap quality fabric. Those are sometimes unsavable because they are made to only last one or two seasons if you're lucky. . Now my blankets are made from the highest quality MINKY (faux-fur) fabric that I can find. That is not a "brag", it is just something I wanted to do in my business. Because I buy the High-end Minky, my blankets can last up to 8-10 years (or more). Let me lay out the basics of Minky Blanket care: (these tips are meant for 100% polyester Minky fabric.) NO HEAT IS REQUIRED!! Artificial fibers are incredibly easy to clean, therefore hot/warm water is not necessary. Any heat in the dryer, even very low heat, will only create static cling and will affect the "soft factor" of all fury blankets. . USE SIMPLE OR ECO-FRIENDLY SOAPS IN COLD WATER CYCLES. Every washing machine soap comes with so many additives (especially "pods") that it will weigh down the fibers over time and make them feel less soft. Find "Eco-Friendly" or "Sensitive Skin" soaps, these soaps have stripped out all of the unnecessary additives that won't aid in cleaning. (You can also use 1-2 cups of white distilled vinegar instead of soap.) Cold water is the best, occasionally you might need warm in extreme circumstances. "Delicate" or "Heavy duty" cycles won't make a difference, Minky is very, very durable and will withstand any wash cycle. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER USE FABRIC SOFTENER!!! EVER! No liquid fabric softener or dryer sheet with fabric softener. They do NOT work and are the biggest enemy of Minky blankets! AIR DRY OR TUMBLE DRY ON AIR (NO HEAT) WITHOUT DRYER SHEETS. Use "Wool Balls" instead to reduce static. (buy on Amazon). Dryer sheets always contain fabric softeners, and again, fabric softeners will build up on the fibers and make your blanket feel LESS SOFT over time. I like to AIR dry blankets in the dryer for 20-30 minutes or until they are about 90% dry. This will "Fluff" the blanket and reduce static. . My Suggestions for fixing your blanket... FIRST, Run the blanket through 1-2 "Rinse" only cycles. just to see if it makes any difference. There may be a build-up of oils from your skin and fabric softener from the dryer sheets. (use warm rinse water to help loosen the build-up) SECOND, If you see any difference at all then that means we are making progress. Run the blanket on a cold water Normal or Heavy-duty cycle. Add 1-2 tablespoons of soap (mentioned above), less is better than more usually. Even add 1-2 cups of White distilled vinegar, this will aid in reviving the blanket and strip the fibers of any residue buildup. THIRD, tumble dry for 20-30 minutes. NO HEAT, air dry only. then take out the blanket and see if it is any softer. If it is then we can save this blanket, if not maybe just give it to your favorite pet and get a new blanket. Feel free to repeat the 2nd and 3rd steps if you think it will help. I hope this helps save your blanket. Let me know how it works out. You can email me directly ( BlanketsByBrian@gmail.com ) or call the studio at 385-900-8668 if you need any additional help. Brian

Hi Brian! Thank you for the superb video and very detailed information on how best to deal with these fabrics and avoid the waxy crap from standard detergents etc. i have recently developed a love for extremely heavy two-ply Korean mink (acrylic, poly blend) blankets. The instructions just say to wash cold on delicate but should I use the baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and vinegar combo in this instance? Any detergent soap you would recommend to lift of oils etc? Also I highly recommend you look into stocking Korean blankets. They are unreal!

Hello. Thank you for this question. I would like you to send me pictures of the blanket that you are talking about. email them to me at: BlanketsByBrian@gmail.com. Now... as far as I have been told by the fabric mills, poly/acrylic blends are NOT washer safe. They are supposed to be dry cleaned. Because of the dry cleaning rule, I have been hesitant to carry them in my store. Only because all of my products are washable. However, your question has made me curious to find out more and if something has changed in the world of fabric. As for now, Only 100% Polyester Blankets are safe to use with my cleaning techniques. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Hey, is it a problem if my hydrogen peroxide had ~0.03% phosphoric acid as a carrier?
@blanketsbybrian
@blanketsbybrian Год назад
I am sorry, but I don't know. I don't understand chemistry enough to know that answer. I know that the Hydrogen Peroxide from Costco is great. I believe that one to be the standard of what you would buy from any pharmacy.

@@blanketsbybrian Just that i am german and don't know if standards translate so well across seas XD But thats for the reply anyway. Cool that you keep an eye on such an old video.

@@pockpock6382 Google helped me to translate. I hope it is correct.

Brian please I just bought minky to make a blanket and it has a film on it ,has this ever happen to you?
@blanketsbybrian
@blanketsbybrian 2 года назад
Hi Janet. Don't worry yet. This is pretty common and one of the reasons I tell my clients to wash the product before using it. There are a few colors that will leave a residue on the fabric, I am assuming that it has something to do with the dyes or the dying process. Just follow my washing instructions on my website. Do not use fabric softeners, fancy soaps, or heat. blanketsbybrian.com/blog/wash-care-instructions/ After one or two wash cycles it should come off and be softer than ever. If not, there might be a flaw with that batch of fabric. Return it to the store and try again with something else. Will this help?

How about laundry sheets?
@blanketsbybrian
@blanketsbybrian 8 месяцев назад
Thank you for the question... Are you asking about the "soap sheet" that dissolves in water? I think that is what you are asking. I haven't used them, so I don't know. If they don't have fabric softener or smells to them, they should be ok. The problem with laundry "pods" where that they didn't always fully dissolve, leaving a little gummy ball behind sticking to the fibers. If you are asking about dryer sheets the answer is NO! Dryer sheets are loaded with fabric softeners. I hope this helps.

So with the baking soda, which compartment do I put it in?
@blanketsbybrian
@blanketsbybrian 4 года назад
Hi Maya Put the baking soda in the soap dispenser. You will want the vinegar (or hydrogen peroxide), baking, and a few tablespoons of soap to combine during the "wash cycle".
@mayaberky5685
@mayaberky5685 4 года назад
Oh so would I put both the tablespoons of soap and the baking soda in the soap cup?
@blanketsbybrian
@blanketsbybrian 4 года назад
Yes.😁. I pour in the vinegar first. Then after the vinegar drains out of the cup, add soap and baking soda. If you don't use vinegar (or hydrogen peroxide) then don't bother with the baking soda. Just use a small amount of eco friendly or sensitive skin soap.
