VAN LIFE VLOG. Attempted to clean my seat covers at the car wash. Our gyms are opening back up but the showers are closed. Meeting some subscribers and seeing the inside of a subscribers new rolling tiny home. Spending the night at walmart.
Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. Stealth van life in not necessary. Be proud of the life you choose to live, Share this van life journey with everyone. Remember Tiny Homes and The whole tiny house lifestyle is very popular and #vanlife is no different. When you don't hide it people will come say hi and ask you questions. I've recently placed a bunch of orders for solar and other odds & ends to start doing more with the van building. Slowly, but surely it's all coming together. One step at a time as they say 👍. You can buy seat covers at WalMart for cheap...I used them all the time in my semi and just pitched them if they got too dirty. I had cats rather than a dog, but their fur still got imbedded in the seat covers. Vinyl is HOT in the summer!

The smile and confidence on both your faces is worth the video. It seems that recently you've shown that a van dweller can keep busy with chores and a bit of friendliness. Dogs live in the dirt and grime so of course your going to reflect that on your interior. It's lovely to look matched but it worth the effort to make it easier to keep clean. Cruz doesn't care if it's black or grey, he would likely prefer it's easier for you to keep clean. He's such a love that he'd do whatever to keep it cleaner if he knew how. Except wearing winter footwear. Keep the faith, you'll figure out a solution. Enjoy your week. Blessings

Wow! I came back to re-watch this video to see where I was at 10 months ago in my van. So basic, but so functional. I literally threw it together in a day with my own bedroom furniture (dresser, side table, desk) and a foldable cot from JYSK. I lived in it like this for several months before starting to build it out. The first thing to be done was the flooring. A few months after that I began the rest (insulation, ceiling, walls) and am still in the process of building it out. Many changes, but many more to go. I'm excited to continue my journey and I'm enjoying every second of it. I can't wait to see what the rest of this life brings!! 🤗💜

Also your vans OEM was upholstery can be fixed! It’s a pain to take out the seat then peel off the original seat covering. Then a seam ripper is used to break the stitching of the damaged panel. Use old panel as a template on new material. Sew in new panel with a stronger thread and a double lock or similar stitch. This a great opportunity to change up your seats colors and textures. Recommend: the drivers seat left butt bolster is always damaged because you slide you left thigh and butt cheek across the seat which damages the bolster.... Honda Elements have this very same problem.

Had the same issue with an Anytime Fitness I stopped into in Oregon last week. Then this week I decided to relocate to Colorado! I was able to get a shower in Salt Lake City and even found one here. The closest ones to me are still closed but a 30 minute drive is better than a 30 minute drive plus $15 at a truckstop, which has been my life for the last couple of months. Here’s hoping they’re all open soon!

Hey chrome check out a product called EM-1. It just might do the trick for the odor if you spray it on and let it sit. I pretty much have to wrap everything in towels and then launder them on the regular. Another trick that helps me a bunch is I threw down four concrete blocks and put a sheet of finished plywood on top as a floor/bed it gives me an 8 inch space under my floor for miscellaneous stuff & it got my futon up off the carpet, the hot cold was making a little bit of mold grow on the underside of my futon when it was on the carpet.

Get your self a few pieces of vet bed for the boy, and rotate them weekly, they wash fine, will stop him sweating, and dry really quickly. You can also get a Mesh bag to pop them in that stops the hair damaging or clogging machines, happy van, happy dog and happy laundry lady !!

I'm so glad you did this video. I haven't bought my van because I couldn't find anyone to help me do a build. But I could do the floor myself and leave the rest as I can afford it. When u buy your new seat covers. Cover Cruise's seat with another cover u can shake out and wash. Even if its a thick towel you can tie on to the seat. 💜

Hi, Nancy here. We did exactly that. Flooring was first, and then as I could afford to I added insulation, walls, ceiling, floating double bed, etc. Do what you can afford a little at a time. We've come a long way in 10 months! 😊

We purchased new foam and cover for our camper hauling truck drivers seat. I could sleep in it, its sooooo comfortable now!! you could always get the new foam and buy a vinyl or other material cover … don't have to stick with fabric ones. I think was like $350 us for the new whole seat bottom part. Ebay helped us match the vehicle. sooo worth it!

A little trick I learned from a housekeeper, next time you have a nice rain storm but no wind spray a cleaner on your seat covers and just leave them be. Let them dry in the 🌞. Fresh rain works wonders.

Just get a big beach towel for cruz’s side. Easy to wash. I use a sweatshirt or teeshirt. The headrest goes through the neck opening nice 👍. Just tie the long sleeves around the back of seat. Perfect 👌

Hey Vancity vanlife, thank you for all the great content and positivity! I wanted to ask you if you knew of any of the downsides in having an extended length can vs a regular length can for stealth and ease of parking? Kind of torn between the advantages and disadvantages of both lengths.

The advantages to having an extended van is internal space. They will hold a lot of stuff. The downside is not as bad as you think for parking. The only challenges I have faced so far with my Extended ProMaster is that some parking lot stalls are short, meaning that they are meant for vehicles shorter than 20 feet. My van is 21 feet long, nose to rear. As for the stealth aspect.....it's a typical, dime a dozen cargo/delivery style van and it pretty much goes unnoticed. Example: I was parked in a Walmart parking lot one night and a mobile Security Guard for the management company drove up to a very obvious RV and kicked him out. I was parked kitty corner to him and the Security Guard didn't even look twice at my van. Go figure. But that just shows you how easy it is if you keep your rig as stealth as possible. Chrome has touched upon this exact subject recently, as well as in past videos. It's all about the outward image you present.

Try looking in a junk yard for vinyl seats cheap and easy to change out

To be honest? Just swap the seats. Check in the local Pick and Pull or other scrap yards, if they have an E series van. Then, go grab the seats. Should be able to get them, I think, for about $75 each (was what I was told when looking for a replacement seat for my vehicle). Seats are only held in by 4 bolts, usually, and may or may not have an electrical connection. Really easy to do.

Chrome, after you replace the seatcovers, just get a nice comfy washable throw rug to place on top of cruz’ seat. That way you easily remove, Shake out & wash.

Do It. That is my best advice. Please don't let a lot of the RU-vid videos intimidate your decision to get into your van. They can be very confusing, intimidating and downright overwhelming to say the least. Just keep it simple and you will figure the rest out as you go along. And seriously, watch Chrome's videos from the beginning and listen to what advice he offers. His suggestions are real with no sugar coating. To be honest... if I hadn't taken the time to watch his videos when I began researching van life, I'd still be too intimidated to have made the leap. Life is short my dear, don't be afraid to live it. No Regrets!!!

hey, Chrome just use a blanket on his seat. with a t-shirt on the backrest. that way you can switch it out every couple of days, like 5 days, then wash them when you do laundry.

Just a thought, you might want to see what the local auto-wrecker wants for a replacement captains chair. I've seen them as low as $50 for the entire chair and as high as $500. depending on condition and what features it has (like heating and electric controls) . If you can find an undamaged leather seat for the cost of the 'factory' seat covers... well that's a no-brainer.

Hey Crome, need to go to a used auto parts yard and grab a pair out of a late model van, they will bolt right in. Ford doesn’t ever change there mounting holes.

Get one of those sticky lint roller things that you rip the perforated papers off of after use. Works well for crumbs and animal hair and all types of things. Also odoban is used by dog shelters for bad smells.
